What's the most amazing start to a new campaign you've ever done?

I started a campaign in a similar way but the party played themselves. The PCs could have anything that they had brought with them to the game. An apprentice wizard had attempted to cast a hastily copied spell from his master's spell book. A couple of the players had Gerber Multi-pliers and...

    Are we there yet?

But will it be like Wally World in National Lampoon's Vacation? Will it all be a big letdown when we find the park closed and have to kidnap a guard with a Daisy air pistol in order to have our fun? :) I really hope it is worth the trip...

What's the most amazing start to a new campaign you've ever done?

I started a Midnight campaign where all of the PCs were part of a chain gang near Steel Hill. One of the players had secretly been informed that his starting PC was going to be slain by one of the Orc guards to drive home the tone of the setting. He created an Orc character as his REAL...

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

Actually I personally love running/playing games in Midnight setting and if you head over to http://www.againsttheshadow.org/ you'll meet a bunch of other people who feel like I do. Some of your past responses have a tinge of "Trolling" to them so this will be my last reply to you on this...

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

Because ideally time and space have no meaning on the Astral Plane. You can jump into Astral Space then jump out at any location on the prime with no passage in time. Kinda like hyperspace to realspace. It may be Metagamey but it is a core concept to the Midnight setting... when the dark god...

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

All you really have to do is play in the Midnight setting and your problems are solved. A setting that is cut off from the Astral Plane stomps on the "Scry-Buff-Teleport" tactic. :)

    An end to scry-buff-teleport?

Totally agree... I'd like to see some of the "folk" remedies like in the series "Supernatural". 1) A salt line along the doorways and windows prevents ghosts and possessing entities from entering a dwelling. 2) An iron pentegram can imprison extra-planar creatures (I loved the use of railroad...

Should you be able to dodge a fireball by readying an action?

Personally If I am on a horse I'd either make the horse RUN either away from the wizard to hopefully get out of the maximum range of the spell, or (if that isn't possible) make the horse run to close the distance to the wizard so he might be in the spell's area of effect (this would be useful if...

Should you be able to dodge a fireball by readying an action?

Yeah but if you are readying an action to move out of the way of an arrow then you are effectively giving up your action to prepare a readied defensive action. Kinda like the parry rules of "Skull & Bones". It doesn't make sense to sacrifice an attack to parry when you only have one attack...

Should you be able to dodge a fireball by readying an action?

It should work for an arrow. If you have initiative over an enemy with a bow you could easily ready an action to "move behind cover if he prepares to shoot at me". When the enemy's action comes up you can interrupt him with your readied action to move behind total cover thus making his attack...

    If X were OGL, I'd write Y

I'd take the reigns of the rewrite for Twilight:2000. Does anyone know why it is taking so long? The rules for Traveller T20 would work fine as written. All that is really lacking is the fluff yet here we are... still no d20 version of Twilight: 2000. Anyway, if Twilight:2000 were OGL I'd...

Zombie Outbreak - where to hide?

Yeah but they can build a mound of Zombies that they can climb up to get you. :)

Yeah, they all play Werewolf! :)

What other games do you play?

I totally agree! I ran it a couple of times but couldn't get it to stick for a long term chronicle. Wraith forces you to create a character's background and to actually roleplay. For the typical hack-n-slash roleplayer who is just looking for combat in a game this could be extremely boring...

What other games do you play?

    1) I love all of the New World of Darkness games. Especially the new Changeling and Mage. 2) I keep my copy of Twilight:2000 around for pick up games. 3) Star Wars SE 4) Call of Cthulhu 5) Cyberpunk 2020 Besides D&D that is about it.

ROBOTECH RPG - its back, and its new

Pretty realistic... Palladium just does a "Copy/Paste" method for the rules section of their books. Take a look at the Palladium Fantasy RPG and you'll see what I mean. The skills section is filled with modern skills that have no place in a fantasy game. KS copied the section from Rifts and...

    Palladium Fantasy: Why the Hate?

IRL, Armor doesn't make you harder to hit. If anything it makes you easier to hit. Armor DOES make it harder to actually do any telling damage. I like that Palladium grants a hit on any modified d20 roll of 4 or better. It assumes that the defender isn't actively doing anything to avoid...

    Palladium Fantasy: Why the Hate?

Personally I think the revised edition was screwed up because KS just did a "Copy/Paste" from Rifts to PFRPG. Why in the world are there modern skills in a fantasy game's skill description section??? A good editor would have been a great help... someone who actually went through the character...
