What Can 4th Edition Learn from 3rd?

If there is one lesson I hope WOTC learned... EASE OF PREPARATION!!!! 4E must be much easier for the DM to do the prep work for. It is NOT desirable for NPCs to be generated to the same level of detail as PCs and as such they need a separate, high-speed, creation system for NPCs. They need...

How do fans of OTHER RPGs handle new editions?

Personally I quite like the nWoD. Mortals were never totally acceptable PC choices in the first. Like you said though, just my opinion. As far as your second point... I couldn't agree more. Generally, while playing Vampire: The Masquerade I never really went crazy with buying books. You...

Should I even bother with 3E anymore?

Same here... While there are numerous detractors on this site I personally kinda like the Palladium Fantasy RPG (though I am not a big fan of Rifts). It needs to be "house-ruled" a bit but I don't think I'll have to worry about new editions any time soon. :) Rolemaster is another one that...

    best boxed sets?

Fury of Shadow for the Midnight setting. It is full of adventure ideas... great for a Midnight DM who is experiencing Writer's Block and needs a bit of inspiration. Fury of Shadow Boxed Set

D&D 4E The Realms being the first 4e setting

When 3E launched WOTC said that Greyhawk was going to be "THE SETTING" for D&D and we saw how that worked out. As far as the Forgotten Realms being the primary 4E setting... I'll believe it when I see it.

So tell me what is so special about Star Wars Saga Edition?

I've seen posts that state that WOTC should incorporate some of the elements of SWSE into D&D 4E. I haven't had a chance to look through the new edition of Star Wars. Tell me, what is so great about it? What changes did they make between it and the Revised Edition. What do you want to see in 4R?

    RIFTS Machinations of Doom

Seems like a lot of people hate the system... So which system would those same people suggest to use? Personally I think the system is fine for a FRPG. I like the system of Armor taking damage and Shields not improving AC but improving the Parry bonus. Because the trend has been to take RPGs...

When you're an "evil" person, what non-evil term do you use to describe yourself?

Depends on the Lawful-Chaotic axis... "Bring Order to the Galaxy" - I'd say that could be Lawful Evil. Squashing personal freedoms to bring order out of "Chaos".

What options have you regreted allowing in your game?

A Human Monk with the Vow of Poverty. BIG MISTAKE!!!!

    Sf-rpg?

I personally like Traveller T20. While it has some of the features of D20 it still has the feel of the older versions of Traveller. There are two primary reasons I like Traveller T20: 1) Combat - Unlike D20 Modern (and Future) they get modern weapons right. If you have an automatic weapon...

Is railroading sometimes a necessary evil?

You hit the nail on the head!!! :)

Is railroading sometimes a necessary evil?

Railroading seems to get too much of a bad rap on this board. Sometimes I believe it is necessary depending on the players. Example: Waaaay back in the day when Mage: The Ascension first came out I ran a session for my group. Now this group had played Vampire before in Sandbox style so...

How do you deal with captured PCs?

It's funny... whenever there are captured PC's inevitably someone starts to bemoan their character and wishes that they had played a Monk instead. ;)

How do I deal with a rule lawyer?

Personally I don't mind having a Rules Lawyer in my group. I don't have the time or desire to sit down and memorize every rule from the PHB, DMG, or from any number of splatbooks. It works best when if I am fuzzy on a rule I can turn to the RL and ask them what the rule is on a particular...

How do I deal with a rule lawyer?

Personally I think the DM deserves to have that rule... They do all the work!!! All a Player has to do is just show up and be entertained. A DM has all of the prep work to do and is the one held responsible when a game doesn't live up to expectations.

How do I deal with a rule lawyer?

   <LAUGHS>   I guess you are right though nobody can crunch Battletech To-Hit numbers like a Rules-Lawyer can. Me... I always had to count it out on my fingers. :)

Your First Character and their impact

I discovered the ElfQuest graphic novels before I got into D&D (Larry Elmore Red Basic Set). Being a big ElfQuest fan my first character was, of course, an Elf and I preoccupied my time with tracking down a Dire Wolf cub to raise as a mount. Nowadays I for the most part prefer...

How do I deal with a rule lawyer?

Suggest to him that he might find more enjoyment in tabletop wargames. Roleplaying games by virtue of the infinite number of situations presented by them must have flexible rules that can be changed on the fly in order to keep the game moving along. Most wargames have a very strict set of...

    System recommendations for modern weirdness?

They never said you HAD to use Vampires as written in VtR. :) Personally I'd have no problem using just the nWOD core book and creating my own type Vampires to suit my game. That way my players don't know what to expect and I can keep em guessing. It is a little more work but nowhere near...
