I don't think it is as difficult as you say. When I was in the USAF I had several troops that I rated on (supervised, trained, wrote performance reports) who played with me. I made sure that up front they understood the situation... we are just there to play, at work it is business as usual...

I love the 1st edition Ranger! Lest ye forget 1e Rangers got a mix of Druid AND Wizard spells. Nothing like Rangers throwing around Magic Missiles, Invisibility, Stinking Cloud and Web. :)

If you are playing TRUE 1E AD&D then the likelihood that you'll qualify for a Paladin or Ranger is pretty slim when you are throwing dice for stats.
