    Wilderlands of High Fantasy Pantheons?

I wish I could help but, alas, I can't. But I had to give you some xp for what you're trying to do (as well as for your choice of handle).

D&D 5E (2014) I'm feeling really good about 5E, but where to from here?

Quite. I enjoy that as much as playing.

D&D 5E (2014) I'm feeling really good about 5E, but where to from here?

Indeed, although in that interview Mearls seemed to be of the mind that if you were familiar with the direction the game was going in, you were also happy with that. I bought most of the 3e WotC stuff, because I had the disposable income and I was curious. But I only found maybe 10% of it to my...

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons and the original Basic D&D - your experiences?

I started with 1e when it first appeared. Neither I nor my friends had ever seen OD&D. I soon became aware of Basic but considered it a game for beginners, specifically for younger children. I was only fourteen at the time but the only D&D games I could find were the AD&D games being played at...

D&D 5E (2014) Can you concentrate on a spell while resting?

I think that is a sound line of reasoning. Consider it yoinked.

D&D 5E (2014) If party short rests in a dungeon room

The 1e DMG said only that the frequency of checks should be moderated by circumstance. Specific wandering monster tables and the associated check frequency guidelines were the preserve of individual adventures.

D&D 5E (2014) Can you concentrate on a spell while resting?

Another vote for not on a long rest. And I'd say that goes for Elves, too. They may not need to sleep but they need to enter into a trance and I think that requirement rules out concentrating on a spell.

D&D 5E (2014) I'm just sayin', the concentration mechanic makes it WAY easier to balance spells

The term 'buff round' is certainly borne of the video gamer but the mechanics to which you refer predate video games of the kind that gave rise to it by a good many years. And I'm not entirely convinced it has entirely gone. But the new concentration mechanic is indeed a very handy one for...

Worldbuilding and urban campaigns: principles, techniques, and ideas

In scale, big FRP city settings are more akin to towns in real life. They are never big enough to really justify being called cities, and the reasons why are obvious. It would take too much work to create a truly city scale setting. And even if you did all that work, dump it all on players in a...

I need lots of statue-like creatures, what are they?

Well, what a coincidence! There's the nahual in my C1 conversion that you've handily recently downloaded. It's pretty mean, however, as it's designed to run like it did in the original, which translates to a nasty effect with no save on it. Also, check out section 1. The Vault of Chicomoztoc...

D&D 3.x C1: The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan conversion for 3.5/Pathfinder

Well, it's one of my favourites. The first and most enduring aspect of its appeal to me is its Mesoamerican theme, which I think the module evokes very successfully, from its location design to its traps and key encounters. Nevertheless, it's all served up with some of D&D's signature gonzo...

    Kill Bargle!

Ah, thank you. I never played the red box edition. (I sold hundreds of them though, while working in a games shop back then.) I must have just overheard his name in discussions and comments over the years. I was a little confused to read you'd had him destroy the Black Eagle Barony, while I only...

    Kill Bargle!

I was looking through some old issues of Dungeon today and came across that adventure. I don't remember seeing it before. I must admit, I came to the same conclusion as you. As for Bargle himself, I only have vague memories of seeing his name a long, long time ago. Was he in the old Rogues...

D&D 5E (2014) Shields and Somatic Components: Will you play it "as is?"

This is the way I've always run 3e and will continue to do so. Should I run 5e, I won't. The rules have eased up and my players would expect me to go along with that, which is fine. Fair enough but magic is too big a deal for me to hand-wave away any of the component requirements. As you point...

    D&D 5E (2014) Perception/Investigation/Medicine?

    1. This warrants an investigation check to me, if the player inspects the arrows. It's the attention to detail the player is applying to the situation that suggests investigation. I see perception being more appropriate to the wider environment. But I can see a valid interpretation of perception...

Help me identify an old D&D edition

I think you are thinking of the GW sheets published in pads (they made 'em for AD&D, Traveller and Runequest, maybe others) throughout the eighties. In fact, I just googled "Advanced Dungeons Dragons Character Sheet Games Workshop" and discovered retro-style sheets so similar, I thought they...

Help me identify an old D&D edition

Those covers were actually very dark blue. But that's close; I was wondering if Mr M might have been thinking about one of them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

Great point well made. I'm not allowed to XP you for it though. A general question: is it a good idea that what is in effect a flagship module for the launch of a new edition be one that is also designed for league play, given all the limitations of that kind of module, as outlined by...

I hope the new "Dungeon Master Guide" talks extensively about playstyles.

Many new players will have the DMG as their primary source for instruction on how to run a game. Perhaps a section on play styles should link to a blog that can explore these in greater depth.

I hope the new "Dungeon Master Guide" talks extensively about playstyles.

Maybe I'm in the minority then but, despite reading much as you have done for a similar amount of time, I always read these sections as I come to them in a new DMG. I want to know what the designers are trying to convey to people new to the game. I want to know how they envisage or even want to...
