    DMs against the Magical Wal-Mart

In the last D&D Campaign I was in (set in the Forgotten Realms) we didn't ever see the "Magic Shop". At low levels we had to make due with what we could find, and/or travel quite a distance to the bigger cities to find items. However, to make things easier at higher levels, we found a woman...

    Forge of Fury: Deathtrap? (spoilers)

Yeah, I replaced the Roper with a small group of...Um...I think they're called Dark Mantles. They cast darkness and drop down over someones head to strangle them to death. Even that killed one of the party members. But that's okay...no-one liked that character anyway. Oddly enough, that...

    Gamer stereotypes

I just think it's funny that the generalization of RPGamers is that we're antisocial. I mean isn't a "group of antisocials" kind of an oxymoron? I don't know about the rest of you, but when I think of someone who is antisocial, I think of someone who spends all day alone chuckling evilly to...

Just Figured Out How to Make Sure the Party imc Explores Every Room in the Dungeon

My group follows the "always left" philosophy. We also tend to make sure to completely map an entire level before we move to another one. Oh, and we keep a password in case there's dopplegangers about. Just a few quirks we maintain.

tattoos, spikes, punk, and goth in D&D images?

I say that the only problem I have is the elves with their goofy oversize ears. I like elves with pointy ears, just not pointy and...huge!

What world would you like to play in?

That's funny, Mouseferatu, I was thinking of Bards Tale as well. You're right about it being very generic, but there is somewhat of a nastalgia factor for me as well. The other one I was thinking of is Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I always liked the idea of the "Gunslinger" being a...

    So he calls himself "Dragonslayer"...

We had a similar experience in a game I was in a few years ago. In it we met a middle-aged black dragon pretty much right away when we were 1st level. Needless to say, he was pretty much ripping us to shreds and we were just trying to do our best to clear out of there as quickly as possible...

<<DMs Only>> How do you let your players level up?

We do levelling pretty loosely. We don't require any training or anything of that nature. I can see the point of why people would require that. I also like Henry's way, but I don't think I could get my group into it.

Are you required to bring your own books when you game?

Our group has several people who have the books, and pretty much anyone who has one will bring it around. But we don't require it. I guess it's because we've had too many players who we were introducing to the game. And a few who were what we call "gamer girlfriends"...that is, the...

    Skills that PC shouldn't get?

I'd say we use Appraise quite a bit. But that's just because the group I'm in like to know how much the at least think they can get before trying to sell something. :D

    Worst (best?) Gaming Puns

Yeah, we had a pretty bad one last night in my new Star Wars D20 game. The planet that the characters are based out of is called Tayther. Unfortunately, one guy started calling it Tayther Tot. He kept trying, even though the rest of us were groaning and begging him to stop.

Unearthed Arcana has Bob Vila-ed my This Old House Rules

This is a great thread. Very funny. :D I love the Photoshopped stuff, Dark Jezter. Great work!

    Favorite Demon Prince

I voted for Demogorgon. Mainly it was the nostalgia factor. Back in the early 80's when this whole thing was new to me. We were playing the ULTIMATE dungeon hack style adventures. In one room was "A" demogorgon (not "THE" Demogorgon). He was in a room that he couldn't have gotten out of...

Tell me what's so good about life

I feel I need to chime in here as well. I have been living with a depression problem (although from the sound of it, not as sever as yours) for several years. I would feel much the same as you for periods of weeks and then come out of it for a short time before being thrown back into it. I've...

Torturing a PC and leaving a lasting effect (my players stay out)

You forgot one: Aibohphobia - The fear of palindromes. This is great because it IS a palindrome. (For those who don't know, a palindrome is a word or sentence that is spelled the same forwards or backwards...like "Otto" and "Flex Elf!" and "A Toyota" and "Go hang a salami, I'm a lasagna...

what musics best to play d+d or warhammer

We hardly ever use music while playing. I do, however, like to think of a defining song for NPC characters I use. The one time we did use music in a game was...very odd. In a V:TM game, we were raiding the stronghold of an opposing force, (Which was a bar in Tacoma, Washington). It turned...

What modules have triggered an emotional reaction in you?

There were a few for me, but only as a player. (I haven't GM'ed a whole lot, so I haven't been able to instill that kind of emotion into players as of yet.) The first was a Vampire: TM game I played in. The GM had a pretty well-thought-out story into which we PC's got involved. After...

Which do you do first: Make the "dungeon" or the story?

Wow, that's pretty good, Buttercup. Quick and simple to making a good first level adventure. It would even work to use that as the beginning to a continuous campaign. I'll have to try that.
