I changed the way I DM somewhat. In previous editions I'd keep track of PC AC etc, and tell them if they'd been hit etc. While with 4E I just say 16 vs Ref, and the player tells me if its a hit or not. Something to bear in mind though. I believe the system is designed with longer combats in mind.

But are they actually magical effects. If you ignore the fluff, alot of the time they are just doing extra damage.

I voted other. I love the 4E rules, but dislike the core setting. And i'm sure any other settings wotc produce will also be to my distaste. So i'm looking for a 3rd party setting.

My stance with 4E , is that I love the rules and hate the setting. I don't expect any of wotc future settings to be much better. So I'm on the look out for a 3rd party setting to play.

Which option would be Got the book, tried the game,love the rules, hate the core setting, would rather play 3e till a better setting comes out.

I Dm's my first 4E game last night. I restricted the Eladrin teleport to line of sight. Which made the abilty reasonable. However the feel of the abilty was all wrong. I felt is if the monster we're going up against the X-men , not a party of adventurers.

The only mechanic thing I've seen that I would want to house rule is the elven teleport, thats got to go.

From what i've playtested from Pathfinder A1 , they are making some progress on points 2 and 3. And hopefully they can also make customising monsters an easy thing to do

Well the pathfinder RPG is free , and if there is a RPG thats going to blow the doors of 4E, I think a free want stands a better shot :)

I do wonder if a some point in the future we will see some legal action by WotC against Pazio over Pathfinder. Trying to limit what the can do with the OGL, and set the legal limits of their GSL at the same time. And they may be rewriting the GSL as we speak with this in mind.

For my in person groups role-playing needs. I need something fairly plug and play , and something everyone at the table can get a copy of the rules. 4E may not quite fit that, although everybody can get a copy of the rules. wizards core setting isn't that appealing, so published adventures...

Spells/powers and playtesting. I'm going to buy 4E.And i'm going to run some games with it. However I suspect the at will magic missile powers is going to feel like giving a PC a laser pistol, totally out of place in most settings. And if spells & powers are alot like that then 4E has a limited...

Even though my group is keen to start a 4E game. They also want to a lower magic campaign and a conan campaign. Both of which will probably be 3.5 , possible with some 4E house rules.

My only big fear is setting compatibility. My groups intentions for running our next campaign , and our first opportunity for a 4E game . Was to do something in a low technology setting, ancient egypt/greece or hyborian maybe. And i'm starting to have concerns whether 4E will work well for that...

hill giants get improved sunder and bull rush as standard. But good idea about the bugbears. Has anybody tried the hillgiants throw rocks?
