I'm going to be running G1 Steading of the Hill Giant Chief, 3.5 conversation, for my group soon.
And I was wondering if anyone had some advice about running giants in 3.5 edition tactics wise? Or if anyone has run G1 in 3rd edition has some advice.
The last time I had a player new to DnD . I asked him what sort of character he wanted to play, in role play terms not game terms. Then generated a character for him. Which worked out really well, and is an approach i'd recomend.
One of the things I do with my Realms campaigns is set them historically, around some big event back drop. The big thing I like about FR is that there's some much history and wide ranging settings within the realms. I can run pretty much any sort of campaign some where some when in the realms...
I don't like any of the 4e realms changes, although I am looking forward to 4E core.
I could understand advancing the timeline or even a reboot. But it seems the sellplague (deliberate misspell) is erasing 3/4 of the realms they don't like, and keeping the bits they do like.
I'd agree with all of Spinachcat reply.
The only area that also bothers me is the racial changes for the forgotten realms, and how they will be handled. I'm certainly not keen on the changes they've made to races being applied to the realms. And I can't see them reversing the changes for the...
I think what they are trying to do is advance the timeline slightly, and doing a partial reset.
What I would of prefered is for a big advancement of the timeline. To put some distance between the current realms and the new points of light realms.
I also agree. I have a growing concern the 4E core rules won't really be core , but are core setting specific. And running any other setting , realms or a homebrew. Will mean saying to players, you can only use some of the core rules. Such as core rules, but no dragonborn or warlords etc. Which...
I'd say either Immediate attack, or reactive attack. To reflect thats you have an immediate opportunity to attack, or you are reacting to an opportunity.
Having said that ,"Emerald Phoenix Initiate Reactive Crystalwing Attack" works for me too
My initial thought after reading SAGA was that the roles we're going to define the progression.
But I'm now staring to wonder if there will be just one progression.
I can't believe there will be only one hit dice. But one progression for BAB and save bonuses , that makes sense.
Full plate reduces the hit chance by 40% , which is matched by the BAB bonus of an 8th fighter. Armour should be more important than it is at higher levels. And for I've noticed that my sweet spot is in the levels where armour matters. So I believe the scaling is wrong, and I'd welcome some...
My concern with armour , if they don't change it to DR, is the relationship between BAB and armour bonus.
I believe armour should provide a bonus at all levels. So what ever a 30th level character gets as BAB, should be related to the armour bonus. But at the same time the armour bonus...
I don't believe there needs to be many changes. However the few things that I feel do need to be changed are quite fundamental, and will be quite far reaching.
Pro Has got to be resource management, in which I include the christmas tree effect, and the 15 minute day.
Cons . A little difficult to say at this stage. There might be retraining rules, which I absolutely ***** Hate. But as yet the magic system is a big unknown , so that could be another...
Plus I believe they are trying to move away from classes being too equipment dependent.
Also I see the roles and classes not as straight jackets but as means to add additional abilities.
I don't think there will be any rule that says you can't do xyz because you are a controller or a fighter...
Martial seems to be defined as their own abilities, as opposed to those gained from magic or deities.
While Controller seems to be just what it says a controller or manipulator.
That says to me Mindmage.
Now I know there will be no psionics in the 4e core rules. But if there we're martial...
I think the roles will give very basic at will abilities & combat skills , that become more powerful at higher levels. And provide a skeleton structure to the class abilities which will customise the character. But I believe once you've picked a role your stuck with it. While the classes will...
