    Description of class roles

My theory is that roles are going to define hit dice, bab, and at will abilities.

    Was 3rd edition fundamentaly flawed?

well assuming we're talking about DnD 3rd edition and not D20. Then I would say there are fundamental flaws. Such things as resource management , fighter MI dependancy & monster/npc design at high level come to mind. Neither can readily be changed without large scale changes so I believe that...

Changes needed to make the role model work

IMO 1 Trapfinding will be generally avavilable. 2. delilating effects will be part of the condtion track. So perhaps part of the leaders powers will be restoring the condtion track status. And instant death style effects are going to be replaced with damage effects. 3. Controller and leader...

    Educated guess on Multi-Classing

My guess is there won't be any fractions of levels, or than previous classes will matter. I think think if a 4th level fighter, takes a level in wizard. He'll gain a 3rd level spell, at caster level 5, but none of the 1st and 2nd level spells. So he'll gain a 5d6 fireball , but thats all.

    D&D 4E "How to play 4E now"

Drop skill points and replace them with a character level modifier, and a -5 penalty for non class skills. Change darkvision to ignore penalties/concealment/total concealment from darkness; cannot perceive colors in total darkness.

    D&D 4E "How to play 4E now"

Drop the 5' step rule Diagonal movement cost 10' per square Reverse saving throws. The attack rolls a d20 and adds spell level and modifier to roll, and has to beat the characters saving throw bonus plus 10.

    DM Encounter Advice

A couple of points here. Make sure that when the party does indulge in stealth or social interaction. You encourage them, so that they see the benefits of alternative courses of actions. Also make sure your monsters engage in stealth and social interaction. That way your demonstrating the...

D&D 4E Should Ability Scores in 4E Be Randomly Determined?

If i've got a particular character in mind for a campaign.I like certain ability scores. And points buy gives me that. If I role randomly , It can be fun roleplaying wise. But I do find it limiting. As i'm not the greatest role-player(although I enjoy it) I tend to have to arrange my scores to...

Why do YOU want a new edition

Certainly I can understand why they need a new edition. Alot of the problems are rather core mechanics. So revising 3rd would be difficult. The 4E designers are certainly talking about the things that are wrong/need fixing with 3rd ed. Whether they can actually deliver the fixes, while keeping...

    Costs of upgrading

    1. Probably what they do now. 2. I'm probably going to wait. My group isn't going to change over straight away. So there's no hurry. Plus it looks like a nearly all or nothing change. 3. Because of the changes to monsters, you've probably got to get the MM and PHB. And if your favorite classes...

Who said they we're going to get any spells?

New "which 8 classes are in PHB" speculation thread

If they follow the SW saga design. Then thats whats going to happen. With the four roles defining hit dice, BAB, saves and at will/per encounter/per day abilities. Then Talent trees for paladin , fighter , cleric etc. I'm guessing they go with 2 talent trees per role. Plus with racial talents...

    the "truth" about classes

I think there will only be four base classes. Defender, leader, controller and striker. Which will define hit dice, bab and the at will/per encounter/per day abilities. Within thoses bases classes will be talent trees for fighter, paladin, druid etc. So what you call a class now would be a talent...

D&D 4E Directly from a quote- 8 classes in 4e! (well, now subject to much debate)

I think there won't be a skill monkey/expert class at all. Or skill points. With the skill folding, all classes, there is less need for a skill class

D&D 4E Directly from a quote- 8 classes in 4e! (well, now subject to much debate)

They striker role was described as being mobile and doing lots of damage. While the tank role was described as they guy in front defending the wizard. Which sounds a bit like the barbarian fits more with striker. Plus the controller role, is a wide title. not just arcane caster could be in...

D&D 4E Directly from a quote- 8 classes in 4e! (well, now subject to much debate)

I think the classes are the talent trees. Its very clear that there are four base "Roles". To me that sounds like the equivalent of four core classes. And following the SAGA style there would be a multiple talent trees for each Role. And each talent tree would be called a class. I think the...

    D&D 4E Will you buy 4e?

There are alot of mechanics with 3e that I'd like to see change, and judging by SW saga 4e will do that. I'm cautious about how they are planing to change the class structure. Plus I'm heavily invested into 3e , and how easy converting material will be is a big issue. Most of the changes I'd...

Give me your virtual tabletop xp

I've used openrpg off and on for about 7 years. Pros. Great for roleplaying, can be very atmospheric, you don't have to travel anywhere. Cons. Slower games, Seems to be less commitment by players, And the couple of campaigns i ran we're harder work than a F2F game. Generally if you can find a...

    Writing useful game material efficiently

I think the title of this thread is a little misleading. I like rycanada idea, and I think it will try and use it next time I prep an adventure. But I don't think its means to write good or bad game material , just a more focused/efficient way of doing it.
