Phased creature ends movement in a wall?

The DM kept the creature at least 2 squares away from us in order to use its aura exclusively. Technically, we could have all readied a charge I guess, but none of us thought of it. (We're not the smartest bunch of players. . .;))

Phased creature ends movement in a wall?

We were denied ready actions since our only ranged guy was down and the rest of us were melee types. The creature was a specter or wraith of some kind and had an aura that it kept trying to catch us in. It was insubstantial too so our basic ranged attacks with javelins, et al. were totally lame...

Phased creature ends movement in a wall?

This came up in our last session. A creature with phasing attacked us and kept moving between 2 solid walls, ending its turn within the wall. The DM then allowed the creature to attack while within the wall, disallowing the party the ability to hit it back. My take is that a solid wall is...

    Is this NPC still Evil?

My opinion is that your alignment is what you are, not what you were. That said, trying to pidgeon-hole complex characters into one of 9 alignments (in 3E, 5 in 4E) makes for some interesting results, especially when dealing with game mechanics such as typed damage that effects the good/evil...

Bonuses to "can be used as a basic attack" powers?

I believe most of the powers say "In place of a melee basic attack." Our group took this to mean is not a basic attack any more and its now a "Brutal Rebuke" attack (or whatever power you are substituting) and by RAW the bonuses to basic attacks wouldn't apply. However, since so many of our...

Overlapping Zones: Static Dam. v. Dice

We play it as the greater damage that turn. If you are in a static 10 damage zone and in a 2d6 damage zone and roll a 7, you take 10. If the DM rolled a 12, you take 12.

What D&Disms have you never liked?

First off, I love D&D. I enjoy it because I recognize its a game and its so much fun to play, not because it represents my ideal pseudo-simulation of how fantasy adventures play out in my mind. That said, I dislike many of the core aspects of D&D: *Character levels: I don't like the way...

    Dragonlance Dragonlance 3.x conversion

You can still get most of the PDF's here. (They started publishing as Sovereign Press before changing their name to MWP. They keep all the Dragonlance under the SP company on RPGNow though.) Only the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (DLCS) and the Age of Mortals companion (AoM) are not available as...

    Warfare for D&D4

You also might want to take a look at One Bad Egg's Hard Boiled Ideas: Armies. It basically treats each unit as a monster. You adjust the stats & map scale depending on the scale of your battle. Uses normal 4E rules otherwise.

Killed a dragon, now they wanna strip it

Draconomicon 1 details this exact thing: Dragon parts as treasure. Chapter 2 gives various uses for different body parts and how they might be used in rituals. It also has the following to say about dragon armor: Unfortunately for those who desire to make armor from dragon scales, harvesting...

Games that wildly vary between groups

Before I started playing D&D, I was a huge Squad Leader player. My friend and I would play constantly and occasionally, his father would play against us both. We had a great time until we went to our first local Con and played with others. Not so much the rules were a factor, but our...

Your FLGS and You - What's your take?

My FLGS (Game Empire) is awesome. Chuck, the owner, is a great guy, even if he appears to be more of a miniatures guy than a D&D guy.;) The other guys who work there are all nice and willing to talk your ear off. The shop is clean and bright and the heat/AC works. They have great stock. Every...

    GURPS 4e

I've been a big fan of GURPS for years and have a few of the supplements (all 3E.) We've tried to run a few games (fantasy genre) but our biggest stumbling block is when it comes to designing appropriate encounters based upon our characters current point value. I know I've looked and can't find...

    Double jump?

While I agree that its cool to say yes and makes for memorable gaming moments, I think the reference to a double move merely indicates that your jump distance must be included in your maximum move distance, otherwise it opens up jumping to movement abuse (everyone will start running 7 squares...

    Why all the ritual hate?

I think rituals are great, but no one used them until I started giving out ritual components as part of treasure. The players suddenly thought, "Well, I've got 200gp worth of alchemical reagents, might as well try 'em out."
