D&D General Why the resistance to D&D being a game?

You can, sure. But that's the specific aesthetic that I'm chasing when I'm playing TTRPGs, so it's important to me. I don't deny that other people might have different priorities when they play TTRPGs, but it's particularly grating when people essentially insinuate that those who chase any...

D&D General Why the resistance to D&D being a game?

My point was that the game achieved immersion despite it being a video game with a lot of gamist mechanics. And what made it a great moment was not the turn-based system or having explicit game rules. It was the fact that I could think like a Barbarian whose weak Wizard friend is stuck on the...

D&D General Why the resistance to D&D being a game?

Why? Because TTRPGs aren't simple board games. I'm playing them for something beyond simple ludic enjoyment. I'm playing TTRPGs for immersion. Immersion means that the game's fiction isn't just a pretext to have some fun. There's a genuine element of escapism, of feeling like I am transported...

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

Well, that sucks for Minthara fans. With my real life work still getting nowhere near done, I'm more and more tempted to keep my playthrough on hold until more and more stuff is patched...

Or a philosopher of language. They've got some craaaazy theories about how we name things.

Huh, have you got a source on this? I remember seeing a tweet about how almost everything about Minthara was blocked by an incredibly small and stupid bug (in Swen's words), which made me think that this would be an obvious fix for Patch 2.

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

Ah, that I guess is pretty sensible.

I'm not sure about varied XP rates, but reaching level 20 with multiclass is already modded in! https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/570 It apparently still can't do spell slots beyond a 12th-level caster, though.

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

Wasn't the comment you quoted earlier saying that they allow people to increase any stat they want regardless of the kind of stronghold they built? That's completely against what I said I prefer (that is, strongholds only increasing stats that are thematically related to them). I may have...

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

I sort of agree for anything post-Tasha's (since 5E's design philosophy changed around that point), but some stuff in O5E I just couldn't do without.

I dunno man, I'm switching companions pretty regularly - especially when one companion seems more plot-relevant than the others in a certain area. I wouldn't have liked to go to the Crèche without Lae'zel, and I would've liked it even less if, when I took her with me for story reasons, she was...

D&D 5E (2024) Baldur's Gate 3: List of Mechanical Differences from 5e (need assistance to fill the list)

Oh yeah, that's a pretty harsh rule. I'm not sure if I'm a fan as a player, but I can definitely see it discouraging yo-yoing as a DM... Then again, I'd much rather use the "You gain 1 level of exhaustion when dropped to 0 HP" rule instead.

But what would we gain by making such a change? If anything, I think it would be a step backwards in terms of Quality of Life. It'd most likely lead to something like the Starter Syndrome in Pokémon games: You like your starter, so you mostly fight with them, so they end up getting most of the...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Actually, it does! I've been watching Hank Green's cancer treatment process over on YouTube, and he mentions that the radiation therapy he received to treat his Hodgkin's Lymphoma also makes it so that he's now more likely to get leukemia. God sure has a weird sense of humour.

I personally love the kuo-toa and use them in every campaign that I can, so seeing them was really wonderful!

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

Well, yes, but leaving the limiting of rare materials to the DM isn't suitable for every table IMO. My players in my last 5E campaign were really into crafting, and when I tried to limit their access to crafting, it'd make the game unenjoyable for me and for them, and they tried to circumvent...

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

I am willing to bet that the pre-Tasha 5E design accounted for these kinds of things (a similar asymmetrical balancing was around full casters and spell save DC increasing items; Warlocks got them but full casters didn't until Tasha's, and I'm guessing this was because Warlocks have limited...

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

As it happens, I do think that's one of the big problems with A5E's magic item crafting system: They based the prices off of O5E DMG's horrible ranges, which means you can craft things like a Headband of Intellect with just 500 gold pieces, which is pretty easy to come by for a Level 5+ PC if...

That sounds like it actually makes rare spells useless, no?

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

I actually like the strongholds giving a specific ASI, and especially Dexterity not being an option. Dex is already a god stat (affecting ranged/finesse attack roles, most initiative rolls and AC, and its save is a pretty big one), so the ways to increase it being limited make sense to me.
