Level Up (A5E) On making a region encounter generator

This is a lot of work, but having such automation would definitely be fantastic! I'm currently making my own Region encounter tables for a future game, but I'm using the Random Encounter Table style from AD&D 2E (so 2d10 encounters, 3 Very Rare, 4 Rare, 4 Uncommon and 8 Common encounters). It's...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I'm actually quite happy everyone levels together. The old games' rule meant that I'd like taking some companions with me, but they'd be underleveled (also AD&D 2E rules meant that no class levelled at the same rate, but still). This way, I know that every character will be able to pull their...

Level Up (A5E) What's Your Unofficial Errata?

Something I already asked about in the forums: I bring Rural and Urban Stronghold pricing to same levels. I understand the prices are different for realism reasons, but the gold-based D&D economy is already pretty distant from real-life pricing, so I thought bringing the two stronghold types to...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I guess this also depends on what country you're in. Turkey is notorious for not recycling a lot... And we're actually getting first world countries to send their garbage to us. Yaaay.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Well, the most likely explanation is that the students who contaminate the trash cans and the ones who ask for recycling are probably not the same people. In fact, if it's just a small minority of idiots who don't care for recycling and just throw everyting everywhere, and if they have 4-5...

    D&D 5E (2024) BG3 and the new VTT

The sad thing is, I think Owlbear Rodeo was basically this. Very simple, barebones tabletop, neat box for 3D animated dice, intuitive and not-too-detailed tools for fog, tokens and map grids. It hosted all the images on your browser's cache, so you didn't need to worry about hosting space or...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

Was he not on board with 4e's design principles? AFAIK, the seeds of 4e's design were sown with the Book of Nine Swords, where he was a writer. He was also part of the Scramjet, the core 4e design team that looked into all of D&D's sacred cows and decided which ones should be offed. Surely he...

I saw that interaction, and boy did that make me reconsider whether the discussions I participate here are healthy or not.

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

He works behind the scenes in the Magic the Gathering department AFAIK. I don't think we'll ever see him in a public-facing role, and we probably won't see him in the D&D department again. I kinda miss the vision for 5e while he was still involved, but I don't know if the shift since Tasha's...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

That to me is quite interesting. Because I know that TSR editions of D&D didn't really have a "monster math" in the way we do from 3E onwards. Nevertheless, it looks like 3E was able to use the Hit Die of 2E monsters as a baseline to reverse engineer a monster math. The reverse-engineered 3E...

D&D 4E Ben Riggs' "What the Heck Happened with 4th Edition?" seminar at Gen Con 2023

To be honest, I would like to see how the AD&D 2E rules evolved into the 3E rules which evolved into the 3.5E rules. I started with 3.5. The accepted wisdom nowadays is that TSR-era D&D and D&D 3E/3.5 are completely different games, with completely different fundamental math. But surely the WotC...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of Augury in 5E? Can we give it a better point?

That's an interesting idea! Also, Baldur's Gate 3 has corrupted me so much that I read all of your descriptions with the BG3 Narrator's voice...

You should be able to choose the kind of familiar you can get when casting the spell. It's a ritual spell that you can cast and then un-prepare, so I think there's literally no downside to taking it. The Crow is quite helpful in combat. I don't know the exact deal with the frog myself. I made...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of Augury in 5E? Can we give it a better point?

Except, the second example doesn't work with Augury as it is written. You need to take the queried course of action within 30 minutes. And I'm not sure if the results also need to happen in 30 minutes (which would invalidate the first example as well), but in either case, asking about a decision...

Some people I generally agree with, but their tone... Yikes dude. Turn it down like, 5-10 notches. Worse thing is, I found myself adopting their pattern in a thread recently. It felt good to be a smartarse. But I also felt terrible about it. Is this what the Dark Side feels like?

D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of Augury in 5E? Can we give it a better point?

But why would you spend ten minutes ritual casting Augury at higher levels? If it's relatively safe stuff, just test it and don't waste 10 minutes (or a spell slot) casting the spell. If it's something potentially dangerous, cast one of the higher level Divination spells like Contact Other Plane...

D&D 5E (2014) What's the point of Augury in 5E? Can we give it a better point?

Well, auguri's point is to wish someone happy birthday in Italian. But what about the spell? I searched the forums to see if this was ever discussed since 5E's launch, but since it wasn't, here I am. So... What's the point of Augury? As a DM, whenever my players cast it, I felt like the only...

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

Hm, I guess that (and the low RAM) is where we differ. I've got a 9th gen i7 and 32 gigs of RAM, and I think those really help, especially with highly populated areas like Act 3.
