Sneak Peak of Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk

Well, the goblin ambush was fairly criticised for causing many TPKs, and especially for an adventure whose main goal is introducing newbies to the game, it can be pretty difficult. But I think other encounters were also rather odd. The flameskull in Wave Echo Cave felt a bit tougher than I'd...

Sneak Peak of Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk

My reply tried to jump off to a separate point from what you said, so apologies if it felt like a non sequitur! I do agree that it'd be nice if the Vecna adventure spanned levels 13-20, and have the option to jump from the various adventures with the black obelisk. That'd also make the Vecna...

Sneak Peak of Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk

I really hope they can publish a second adventure that goes to Level 20 besides Dungeon of the Mad Mage... Also, beating Vecna as a level 13-15 group would just feel silly.

D&D 5E (2024) The WotC Playtest Surveys Have A Flaw

Well, that's fair. I was a frequent poster in the earlier years of 5E (I even made a small "hit effect descriptions by damage table" that was popular for a while back in the day), but from around TCE onwards, I felt like the sub's priorities (or at least what got upvoted frequently) no longer...

Sneak Peak of Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk

I'm currently writing up a 5e retrospective, and LMoP's most-criticised point was most encounters being unbalanced due to the module being designed while the rules weren't fully finalised. If they fix that, I'd be okay with that. Having said that, I'm cautious. I haven't liked most of the...

D&D 5E (2024) The WotC Playtest Surveys Have A Flaw

I actually think the subreddit is even less representative. If you look over there, it looks like anyone who doesn't want a detailed power-based martial class and nerfing wizards to hell at the same time is a heretic. I've never ever seen a more fervent community about the caster/martial...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I'm already planning my future playthroughs: I'm currently running a good(-ish?) Elf Wizard Dark Urge, and I want to do an evil Dark Urge, Shadowheart and/or Karlach playthroughs after this. Also a Custom character that's just living their best life.

D&D 5E (2024) The WotC Playtest Surveys Have A Flaw

Given how they've been advertising books lately, I'm guessing we'll basically get one of the two options: 1) Todd Kenreck overenthusiastically talks about the new core rulebooks with Chris Perkins 2) Jeremy Crawford stands awkwardly in front of a camera with Chris Perkins and makes awkward...

D&D 5E (2024) The WotC Playtest Surveys Have A Flaw

It's either that, or an extended marketing campaign disguised as a playtest, I think. It's hard to explain the short timeframe otherwise, and the UA articles had become marketing products for the last few years too.

D&D 5E (2024) The WotC Playtest Surveys Have A Flaw

That's not entirely incorrect. But I think D&D relying on one special player (aka the DM) to do all the heavy lifting in order to make a table happen creates a weird situation. Sure, the kind of people who hang out in ENWorld (out of which those who fill the survey are an even smaller...

D&D 5E (2014) Phandelver and Below WotC First Look Video

IIRC, the adventure has been advertised as being "cosmic horror" for a while now. I don't know if Phandalin is the best place to add such an adventure, but oh well. Also, I have to say, I don't really like the way they've been advertising the latest books. The Glory of the Giants video where...

D&D General Baldur's Gate 3 will now be releasing August 3rd on PC and September 6th on PS5, increased level cap, race & class details and more

I think Arabella is a good kid. And every kid NPC becomes incredibly cute when they want to pet my cat familiar. I was amazed to see that the devs thought of adding that to the game.

    AD&D 2E Infinite Elf Generator/Xp mill

I started playing at the tail end of the 3.5 era, so maybe I just don't "get" it. But man, some of the race/class restrictions make no sense. What is it with Elves not being allowed as Druids in AD&D? ELVES? The race whose schtick from since Tolkien has been being supernaturally in tune with...

    AD&D 2E Infinite Elf Generator/Xp mill

I'm pretty sure this is @Snarf Zagyg's preferred way to level up. Especially if the elves are bards instead of wizards.

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I think it's just 5E's inherent early-level swinginess. Up to level 4, a bad crit can kill you in one shot. From level 5 onwards, the game (both BG3 and 5E in general) has to really try to kill you, otherwise you'll bounce back up one way or another.

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

Especially coming from the earlier BG games with 6-person parties, 4 feels really low. I'm doing my first run with no mods, but I'll definitely install a mod to increase the party size to 6 in all future playthroughs.

GenCon 2023 RPG tickets sold. Update with breakouts by edition.

As a former Parisian, I can confirm that it's usually Americans and other tourists who go to McDonald's, Burger King and the like. Though that's mostly due to McD offering "familiar" food that you know will be good as good as you know it is elsewhere, instead of risking trying something you...
