    Anybody using Threads yet?

I delved into the privacy policy of Threads, and while it's got some weirdly particular stuff in it (it wants to collect my sexual orientation and trade union membership...), apparently Instagram already collects these. The launch in the EU being delayed is due to the EU not allowing one company...

Level Up (A5E) Are Bard Hymns Overpowered?

Folks, I really don't want the thread to devolve into an aggressive argument, especially since the reason I opened this thread was to get feedback from people who designed/playtested the A5E Bard and they've yet to write anything. With that said, I want to push back on this. 5E doesn't always...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Well, I was hoping I'd at least get some responses from people with authority before the thread devolved into a screaming match...

    Anybody using Threads yet?

AFAIK Microsoft only has it in association with Xbox and the gaming industry, so they're probably safe from that. But if Musk ends up being unable to use his pet domain name because Zuckerberg owns the trademark in social media, it'll be funny. The fact that our entertainment comes from seeing...

    Anybody using Threads yet?

Apparently Threads has a feed only of people you follow now. I think I'll commit to the switch once the app comes out in the EU, especially since TwitterX decided to speedrun its collapse.

    D&D 5E (2024) How long should a Short rest be in 5E(2024)?

Let's agree to disagree. I did run encounters with alternative win conditions and hardly ran into the troubles that you described.

Level Up (A5E) Are Bard Hymns Overpowered?

AFAICT, you can't have both at the same time. That said, you can change your focus any time you gain a level, so you could start with the focus that removes concentration, then switch to the one that increases the number of targets at a later level.

D&D General The Original Reason for Spell Components: Balancing Bad Jokes

The material component for friends in 1E is "chalk (or white flour), lampblack (or soot), and vermillion applied to the face before casting the spell". You're essentially touching up your face, and those who fail their save like your glow up (2d4 increase to CHA), while those who succeed their...

    D&D 5E (2024) How long should a Short rest be in 5E(2024)?

I mean, there are so many reasons why you'd like to have an encounter that isn't a life and death struggle at every opportunity. Perhaps the party just received a new power-up, and you want them to feel powerful by curbstomping on foes that gave them a hard time before. So you make an easy...

    Obvious Truths Go Here

A bachelor is an unmarried man. Wait, you mean in TTRPGs... Well, no game is always better than a bad game. If you aren't vibing with a group, there's no shame in leaving it, and nobody is morally in the wrong for not getting along well.

    D&D 5E (2024) How long should a Short rest be in 5E(2024)?

Definitely agreed on longer rests. Since most 5E tables tend to have 1-2 big setpiece encounters and nothing else, I think making rests longer helps return some encounter balance. At least for journeys. I am kinda disappointed Level Up didn't go the full AiME way and disallow long rests, instead...

Level Up (A5E) Are Bard Hymns Overpowered?

Yes, but depends on the spell and the hymn focus you took, at least as I read the rules: Activating a hymn requires no action, just spending a use of Bardic Inspiration at the start of your turn. From 4th level onwards, you can also use your reaction to start a Hymn at the end of another...

Level Up (A5E) Are Bard Hymns Overpowered?

This is a discussion I wanted to spin off from the thread about the Percussion and String specialties, mostly following @steels12's comment there: So after I read his comment, I checked the Bard abilities on my Adventurer's Guide, and I have to admit that the Bard seems to get a series of...

    D&D 5E (2024) How long should a Short rest be in 5E(2024)?

Is this in Adventures in Middle Earth? If so, I love how they handled resource management during journeys as well. I think their way of doing things handles 5E's resources much better if you want to have one encounter or so once a day throughout the journey, instead of every day of the journey...

    About the edit forum feature

As someone who occasionally forgets to in the middle of the sentence (see what I did there?), the editing feature is a godsend for me. That said, perhaps one way to avoid the malicious use of the edit feature would be allowing the users to see the earlier versions of the post. But I'm guessing...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

My relationship to D&D is the same as my relationship to fast food: I know its dominance is bad for me and the wider world/industry and that I can find so many better options, but it's just good enough and too convenient to abandon it.

    Barbie v. Oppenheimer: YOU DECIDE

I agree that that scene probably doesn't resonate with people who didn't go through the experience of patriarchy. But (and I don't think you're saying this, it's just a relevant point that's been going around in my mind) I don't think the movie about the hardships of being a woman needs to keep...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Well, necromancy is the superior battle tactic. So that's where the best battles are bound to happen. To quote Doctor Who's Missy: "Do you know the key strategic weakness to the human race? The dead outnumber the living." (which, in retrospect, is a quote that sounds really smart but is...
