AI in Gaming (a Poll) [+]

I was going to say using image generation for personal campaigns is fine, but the option was for commercial use of generative AI. That'd just be an excuse to put artists out of their business ASAP, so I didn't select that. But I feel like using generative AI to create character faces/room images...

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Who's the replacement that left after Spelljammer? I thought Crawford and Perkins became the chief rules architects, which is the equivalent to Mearls's role as Lead Game Designer until Tasha's.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin Coming May 21st!

Any idea what the sigils on the alternate back cover might be teasing? There's Bhaal's holy symbol (BG3 was a big hit, so no surprise there), the bottom one in the centre looks like a Planescape faction logo, but none that I know of, and the upper right in the centre I've got no idea about. The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

While Basic Rules are available for personal use from WotC's website, I don't think they're avaliable for commercial use like the SRD. So they really couldn't unless they got permission from WotC to do it (which they probably wouldn't bother to while trying to get a deal for selling the whole...

D&D 5E (2014) What, if anything, bothers you about certain casters/spells at your table?

Animate Objects is a big annoyance to me, mostly because it grinds the game to a hold because its most optimal version is animating 8 tiny objects. I think the Level Up version of the spell went too far in the other direction though and made the spell too weak.

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

Hamlet is a retelling of the father avenging storylines, and specifically the Germanic tale of Amleth, that existed for a few centuries before Shakespeare wrote his version. Tolkien's Legendarium is essentially a reimagining of various Nordic and European folk tales doused in heavy Catholic and...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

Sure, mob mentality is a well-understood phenomenon, and social media usually aggravates this issue. But in this particular case (in light of the more recent evidence @Dausuul brought up earlier), it's clear this isn't what happened. And honestly, I think on aggregate, the amount of damage...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

To me, the information you provided here is pretty strong proof that Mearls grossly mismanaged the situation, and the recently revealed facts about Zak's actions also fall in line with the alleged abuse. So again, it seems pretty insensible to shrug off what happened as "the Twitter mob...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

Well, if that's the case, deciding to publicly defend the person and handle the situation without any of the sensitivity it would require is still not a good sign of public-facing leadership. Not to mention the fact that he still has not treated the topic in any meaningful way since the initial...

D&D General Joe Manganiello: Compares Early 5E to BG 3 . How Important is Lore?

The thing is: Mearls not only defended Zak S but also (from what I've heard) transferred confidential messages he received from Zak's victims to Zak himself. This is what he's glossing over when he says Mearls was fired over a Twitter mob. As much as I love Mearls's design (and I actually agree...

D&D General Jaquaying the dungeon - a term to avoid

Thing is, Justin is giving the appropriate credit to Jennell only in the online articles. From what I understand (I don't have his book but this is what people who bought the book are saying), he removed all of the references to Jennell and how he only operationalised a way to build dungeons...

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

I'm assuming you mean money that they'd get from selling the 2014 core rulebooks. But again, those will be obselete by the end of the year, and you probably need a couple of months of development time to implement everything properly. So while yes, they are not getting any of the potential 2014...

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

Alright. I do think that's a silly opinion since you can actually sell months' worth of books with the free SRD + any adventure released until the 2024 core books are out with the current model, and why should you leave money on the table? It looks like WotC and FoundryVTT also made the same...

Level Up (A5E) What spells count as a Haven

I think one point that's often missed with Tiny Hut is its 200 GP cost for each casting. So yes, a 2nd level ritual spell does provide safe haven, but it requires you to spend 200 gold for every night you use it. Assuming a 4-man party, that means you're getting safe haven for 50 GP per night...

    D&D 5E (2014) Foundry Gets Official D&D Support

I kinda missed the last 3 pages of discussion, but doesn't the announcement make it clear that they didn't want to sink development time on 2014 core rulebooks that will be obselete later this year? This probably means the 2024 rulebooks will be available quite soon after their release. Would...

Why did Gale sacrifice himself? I couldn't get him on the party for the final fight, and he seemed to be fine afterwards.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I had that impression from the start, but yeah, some of the decisions are just bad unrelated to access to ruleset (like having a chapter set in Thay but giving the GM no materials on how to present Thay besides some rules for adjudicating the social interaction with the Thayan diplomat).

Yup. Alexandrian can stuff his self-congratulating nomenclature for all I care. Jaquaysing it is.

D&D General Jaquaying the dungeon - a term to avoid

Except Jennell was saying she was pretty honoured to have the term named after her in several social media posts, and only explicitly asked Justin to add the "s" as a correction, dating back a very, very long time. The blog post documents that Jennell was okay with having the term be named after...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

Finally finished the game with my Dark Urge Wizard. No notes. I'll wait until the Enhanced/Expanded/GOTY Edition release (when hopefully they'll add the Upper City and expand on a few hanging plot threads), but I was really satisfied with the game's ending. I'm also very happy that I finished...
