Healthy snacks & drinks for gaming?

One of the gamers back in Seattle liked to bring pretzels, which seemed to be a good choice for snacking. I tended to be the person who brought oreos and potato chips to gaming (despite needing to lose weight).

    Favorite/Hated Race - and Why?

Well, Pathfinder has far more human cultures than varieties of elf. I think the odd part of the 3E elf was the need to give different stat modifiers to represent cultural differences. If we want to do that then humans would have been a logical place to start.

Adding feats to Castles & Crusades

Including the . . . poetic . . . prose contained within it. :) But a lot of very good ideas!

Can a DM expose a vampire character to sunlight with combat actions?

That is a good example. Wizards become much less fun to play if they are constantly being rendered without a spellbook (in 1E to 3.5E, mostly). The class is extremely strong, which helps, but it certainly gets less fun if every enemy or encounter is looking for a way to destroy the book.

Break my game: Indestructible sword at level 1

Or was simply unaware of the nature of the sword. After all, few people try to destroy their valuable magical items and a magic item in a distant land is a pretty hard thing to track down.

What is the thing you envy most about a game you don't play

I really liked how the Traveller character generation system led to some really interesting and unexpected backgrounds. It almost never produced a really suboptimal character but it was great at creating a life story that was unexpected.

Can a DM expose a vampire character to sunlight with combat actions?

The question is whether it was meant to be used to add flavor (vampires in cloaks during the day) or to be a mechanical disadvantage. It's perfectly fine to tinker with the rules but remember that balance is an odd beast. To cite the other example in the thread, if disarm is common enough then...

    Monster PCs

Why not? It completed the idea started in Savage Species and refined in Arcana Evolved of making powerful racial abilities into classes. A vampire could multi-class to pick up all sorts of alternate flavor, if you wanted a mage-vampire, for example. It's otherwise complicated, to say the...

How about a Sci-fi RPG from Wizards?

I would have counted Traveller as a success. :) Actually, Star Frontiers was a popular game in my youth for a very long time and had a fair amount of interest. The line lost support and it faded, but it was a well supported and popular game of the era.

    Monster PCs

That really was the way to go. 4E seems to have finally completed the transition by making vampire into a class rather than a race. :)

    Monster PCs

I have done it a lot in the context of 3.5E rules. Generally, it works well if the game is intended to be fun and offbeat. But way worse if you are treating it in a serious sense. If player to player balance is even a distant objective, it will be nearly impossible under this system as Level...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Beginner Box

Although much fun could be had (as a practical joke) starting somebody with BECMI and swearing it was compatible with 4E. They are both good systems but they really emphasize different foci. I am delighted to see a good beginner boxed set. A definite need for the hobby, I'd say.

White Wolf releasing 20th Anniversy Edition of V:tM

Thank you. Elemental effects would be nasty in vampire if they included fire, though, given that I recall vampires not being all that mentally stable around it.

What is a fey vampire (is it linked to Changeling?)

Deities & Demigods: American Indian Mythos (or, Who the Heck is Qagwaaz?)

Is it possible that the authors made him up to fill a perceived gap in the pantheon?

Why average wealth by level is a good thing.

This is actually kind of cool if you are modeling Elric (with Stormbringer). Much less cool if you are thinking of Conan! In my experience this depended greatly on the availability of magic items. If they were quite rare than other factors began to matter a lot. If they were commonly found...

Why average wealth by level is a good thing.

I found wealth by level to create odd problems when characters died. If replacements were even close to the level of the dead character and entered with wealth, the next effect was to create way too much wealth in the game. Conversely, one Mage's Disjunction was very hard to recover from (as...

    A Return to Traveller

No troubles. I was just surprised at the real vintage of some of these works. I grew up reading at the public library so my sense of timing for some of these books is quite off. :)

Break my game: Indestructible sword at level 1

I am still not sure about this. I have seen people break weapons but the idea of doing so without first taking the weapon away from your opponent and then giving them an opening seems like a challenge. The break moves I have seen require full control of the weapon and, at the very least, you...
