    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

Yes, but the VTT has great potential to actually grow the D&D market. Here's an example. I have several friends who play D&D with me locally, but I also have several friends who I played D&D with in college that I would play with in a second over a VTT if it was easy to do. In fact, there...

D&D in 2011: From Books to Digital

Everything you need to play 4e IS in print though, and is intended to stay in print. That's what Essentials was all about. WotC isn't getting rid of Essentials.

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

I highly doubt they'd add stuff to the Compendium without also printing it as a DDI article.

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

As I said on Twitter, wait until AFTER DDXP, and THEN declare the death of D&D. We got the bad news now because people were demanding it. But we're not going to get the good news until DDXP, since that's when they'll do their announcements. Plus, they've already stated that the content of...

That's what the Essentials products are for.

Interesting thought on everything going on

Because DDXP is in a couple of weeks, and they've already said that there is where they'll be making their big announcements for the year.

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

Here's my 'the sky is not falling' comment. 1. We knew D&D minis were on it's last legs already. They just finally put the horse out of it's misery. 2. Regarding the change to hardcover of Heroes of Shadow, and the cancellation of the other three books...I don't know about most people, but...

    Ampersand: 2011 releases officially gutted

There has to be a reason for this. Perhaps the Essentials format wasn't as successful as we thought? Not that it matters much...for all practical purposes, most of the published conten

    Class Compendium: Gone?

Assuming that these products are, in fact, 'cancelled' I'm speculating that a) These products are actually going to be part of an expansion of DDI. or b) These products are being converted to softcover instead of the hardcover format.

D&D 4E Tomb of Horrors (4E version) - anyone run this yet?

Yeah, I'd replace the Scarabs with something else.

But it's appropriate for a Battlemind or Ardent too right?

    Is it time for 5E?

Alternatively, since AFAIK, the 'cancelled' books are all hardcovers, it could be as simple as them being changed to the Essentials softcover format.

    Is it time for 5E?

What if these cancellations (if they actually are cancellations) are actually a precursor for doing a big marketing push for DDI? That is, taking all of that material and increasing the size of Dungeon and Dragon?

    Tension in combat

This is an interesting point. Generally speaking, monsters don't _have_ alpha defense abilities. When they do have defensive abilities, they're generall auras and such, or are of such minor consequence their impact is lost in the noise. But instead if they had an encounter ability that say...

D&D 4E Tomb of Horrors (4E version) - anyone run this yet?

I'm not Ari, but I'll give my two cents on this. It's a mixed bag. Some of the monsters look like they're using MM3 numbers, but many do not, especially if they're direct from MM1 (in particular two monsters in Chapter 4 come to mind). I'd still go over each monster and make sure that the...

    Tension in combat

Here's an idea (just popped into my head). My players play with their powers on cards. You could easily treat them as Torg Drama Deck cards. Here's how it would work. Each round after taking his action, the PC could put down one of his Encounter or Daily Attack powers. For his attack he...

    Tension in combat

Torg was pretty good at dealing with tension like this. The card mechanic meant that the PCs (during Dramatic encounters) were behind the 8-ball to start, but as they put more cards from their hand into their pools, their ability to do some nasty damage continually increased.

D&D 4E Tomb of Horrors (4E version) - anyone run this yet?

Here's a summary of some observations regarding my last two sessions of running Tomb of Horrors.
