Uh, no thanks, I'll play this instead.

We played several party games a few weeks ago and one of them in particular was just not up to the task. Maybe with a group of well read or travelled scholars it might work, though I still question the fun factor: Wise and Otherwise. One of my friends mentioned that in previous play people...

    The monster you fear most

I feel annihilation and bodily destruction. Without the body coming back to life is more difficult. Beholders are bad. Mindflayers are bad just because you don't like losing the brain, but they don't disintegrate the body. Without looking at a monster book I can't come up with anything else.

New Star Trek TV Series In Development

You know I saw Kate Mulgrew on the Cartoon Network on their live action police spoof and my reaction was, "why do I not like this...wait, I recognize her...crap! Captain Janeway. What's on the Travel Channel..." But having said that I'd watch a show that followed the ST tv canon. The movie...

    Remind me about Concentration

In the back of my mind I figured I was right about something. DC 15 + 4 = 19 which is doable thanks to Combat Casting, etc. DC 10 + approx 20 + 2 = requires a natural 20+, if I let the critter hit me. Yeah, I'm going with the first option. Oh wait from the SRD: roll a d20 and add your...

    Remind me about Concentration

I've recently joined a Pathfinder campaign run by a DM I used to play with a few years ago. I'm playing a cleric and I chose feats to enhance my ability to cast of the defensive. Problem is, I don't think any of us really have bothered to read and understand the new Concentration rules. So, I...

    Futurama's Gygaxicon and Bone Vampire

Dang, I was going to watch it and forgot. Now I'll have to look for the reruns.

    Loot protection spells?

It was redone for 3.5 by Necormancer Games and it doesn't exactly fit, but Wyvern Watch was always a favorite spell back before it suddenly disappeared in 3E. It was more of a campsite guarding spell for when you are sleeping, but lasted long enough it would be good to protect loot as well.

    Cannibal hillbilly dwarves!

Well, sounds like you've already got an idea about your cannibals being somewhat civilized. My only suggestion, which was hinted at by others is to throw in an actual undead. Whatever is appropriate for the party level, which the dwarves haven't been able to deal with, maybe it's "crazy Uncle...

Anyone do this...Run it like it was old school

I'm of mixed opinion on this. See, I put the time and energy into learning the rules, so why not use them? But, on the other hand, it can be awkward when you are always the one pointing out misinterpretation of the rules. If it worked in the players favor most of the time I suspect people...

    Lost Caverns of Tsojanth...

Despite being grognardy enough, I've never played The Lost Caverns so it is interesting to hear that it might be considered deadlier than the Tomb, which I have played.

    Dealing with paranoid players

I was going to suggest the DM adopt a sandbox or open ended style, but since you've said she's new, that probably is easier said than done. Part of me wants to suggest dumping the lame players. Part of me wants to suggest dumping the adventure path. Part of me wants to suggest hiring henchman...

Since I can't go to GenCon, I will be...

Friday: First we meet at a local taqueria and after eating go play board games. Saturday: Go to museum and continue cataloging material that nobody has cared about since the early 20th century and hopefully find more cool police reports, business letters, and pictures. Sunday: Player...

Fantasy Flight Games statement on Star Wars License

While I doubt I'd buy and play it anyway, since the 2 previous versions are good and cheaper, I hope a Star Wars RPG does NOT use the Warhammer Rogue Trader/Dark Heresy rule set. That would be appropriate for stormtrooper NPC's who can't accomplish anything, but suck for player characters.

    Classic Battletech: the campaign?

Didn't the basic rules of BattleTech have rudimentary rules for upgrading pilots? I vaguely recall it was you increase your gunnery or piloting skill by 1 for every 4... something. 4 battles or 4 kills. I know there was a mechanic in my old school books, but I haven't played and read the...

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

My feeeling is the only way to get 51% of the DnD players onboard a single edition again is to let it lapse for a decade and then come back. Like 3E.

    Crackpot science in fantasy

Alchemy and pre-modern medicine is full and stuff like this, but I'm sure you know that. An alchemical gem: mix sperm and horse manure and you can grow your own homunculus. Here's one more modern: Lysenkoism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia You'll just want to read the part about...
