I kind-of like how E6 and such offer continual advancement. Every so often you hit a benchmark that allows you to grow your character laterally instead of vertically. I'm not sure what you'd offer in 5E. ASIs? Feats?
Well, to be fair... if one of my players walked away, I could recruit from about 12 replacements within minutes.
Sure, it's all about communally having fun. But if I'm going to run a game based on a certain vision, then hey -- I'm going to grab up the players most likely to want to share in...
I don't have time to crunch numbers at the moment, but 1HD per short rest seems... optimistic. 3-4 seems more realistic from my experience. How would that change things?
(I know my players, at least, aren't going to stop for a rest when they're only down 1 measly HD.)
My first thought is that it would likely lead to two-day rests when the party retreats to town.
I don't think that would be a bad thing.
As for resting out in the field... I think it could lead to interesting decisions. It would probably hurt (or at least slow down) styles of play that...
Questions of formatting aside, thank you everyone for your feedback. When I get a chance to sit down and work on him, I will take your observations and suggestions into account and get to tweaking.
Thank you @Tormyr, @surfarcher, @Quickleaf, Jack99.
There is no convention for pact magic yet that I can find. So I chose to use the format WotC used the only time we've seen the trait from an official source. Should they change it (which is likely), I'll reformat.
Actually, if you read the trait carefully you'll see that it uses pact magic rules, as set forward in WotC stat-up of Farideh.
The monster has 3 spell slots of 5th level.
Thanks for the analysis!
He's an experiment in adding class levels without adding hit dice.
The ASIs correspond with what a warlock of that level would have. I'm off - the - cuffing things and was curious how it would turn out.
At this point, though, I either need to tone him down a bit...
In my current campaign, the PCs are storming an ancient Yuan-ti temple. The villain is a Yuan-Ti abomination who also happens to have the spellcasting ability of an 11th level fey pact Warlock. I've tentatively pegged his CR at 8, but I think I may be lowballing it. What do you guys think...
My head knows that what I'm about to type is superstitious drivel, but...
The dice respond to your expectations. I've "seen" it in wargames and I've seen in in RPGs. A friend of mine believes he's cursed by the dice gods. And he consistently rolls crap. Another believes he's naturally...
I suspect the trait just made them too weak. Drow retained it, but they are a special case (living primarily in the underdark et al). For races that are primarily known to harass surface settlements, disadvantage just for being outdoors seems counter to the fiction.
Just add a new action: Eldritch Blast, ranged spell attack, etc, etc with the damage from the Invocation built in.
Though you might need to then add a Multiattack trait that lets her use it 3 times.
