    Good (card) Suit names?

Just some suggestions: 'elements' (fire, earth, water, air, ice, positive, negative, electricity, sound) 'powers' (good, evil, law, chaos, nature, death, birth, time, space) 'gods' (death, life, war, magic, love, weather, sea, the wild) 'planes' (hell, abyss, mount celestia etc.) 'races' (tie...

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

First of all, this is kind of a silly question. There is no 'best' amount, at least, this differs per individual / group who plays. It is for everyone out there themselves to decide when too much is too much. Well, I am saying 'more like', I am not saying it is no longer an RPG. My personal...

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

Well, mini's are fine in some respects, and to each his/her own, but... in my opinion, the overuse of mini's makes the game more of a tactical combat game rather then a role playing game. The use of mini's is also, in my opinion, a factor that can limit the boundaries of one's imagination. The...

Blocking scrying and teleport without magic

Yeah, I also played and DM'd Shadowrun in my time... I always hold to the idea 'it is better to steal a good idea then to think up a lousy on oneself'....

Blocking scrying and teleport without magic

Well, the way we used to play it (do not know if this is in any way supported by 'official' rules in any edition) was that lead sheeting would block both TP and scry type magic. Furthermore, we had Orichalcum as an alchemic material, in our campaigns a mix of dragon's blood, diamond dust and...

Dragon & Dungeon Magazines - the numbers tell the story

Yeah, yeah, so English is not my first language and I mangled it somewhat, so sue me... Anyhoo, English being a 'living' language, I feel that the word 'effectuate' could perfectly be added to the official dictionaries.... To get back on track though, I would be interested to see WotC...

Why can't WotC break the mass market barrier?

That is good to hear, too bad it is not the launch product though...

Why can't WotC break the mass market barrier?

Hmmm.... reading this makes me wonder why 4E isn't launched through a boxed set covering the first 1-5 levels or so... Is also easier for the 'hard core' gamers, who can dig in immediately iso getting one book at a time spread over several months.... Seems to me to be a missed opportunity...

Dragon & Dungeon Magazines - the numbers tell the story

Interesting figures. I would have guessed Dragon sold about three to four times as many issues as Dungeon, but the factor is more like 1,5X. Would be interesting to know the average # of readers per mag (estimate off course). In general, seems like a long term relatively stable readership with...

    Why is there no dwarf-hate?

They are spared the target of hatred because they are simply overlooked.... the li'l buggers...

    If Psionics replaced magic...

Oh... and as for races.... I do not see any problem with making gnomes inherently 'psionic' or even the elves, transferring their 'magic aura' to a psionic flavour. I guess it depends upon the extend to which you want to get rid of 'magic' from a rules point of view or from a more fundamental...

    If Psionics replaced magic...

Concerning healing, I personally deem 'magic-magic' to be completely different from 'divine-magic', so in a sense, I would foresee a campaign where the cleric, druid and the paladin would remain intact, and only the other classes would be axed. Just my own take on the issue...

How much would it cost to hire a rpg writer?

Hmm... considering the total costs, don't know how many words you'd end up with, but when I wrote up my own campaign in Word once, it quickly added up to about 50,000 words, just fluff, no rules. Just to give an indication of the amount of words one could expect... hope that helps...

    Zagig Spells

    the "gem-eye" statue

Now that would be a cool tribute to earlier editions and a form of continuation. Having the statue be an integral part of the first 4E adventure, maybe included in de new DMG or somesuch as example of play?

[rumor, not fact!] Hasbro selling off WotC

Nah... Hasbro itself will be bought by a privat equity firm, and the parts sold for more then the whole. Thus, WotC will come onto the market for the highest bidder. Shall we start raising some cash to buy it as a community?

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

To add to the differentiation issue, I believe that the most important difference between tabletop and computer RPG is the whole tabletop thing. The face to face socializing. This, and the versatility of a live DM which makes the boundaries of TRPG limitless, are the main differentiating factors...

    D&D Brand Manager of Fluff

    Destruction on a ludicrous scale

Ah... if it is a truly spelljammer like crystal sphere, the way to do it would be to open up the crystal sphere itself. Let the phlogiston enter, get in contact with the sun at the centre, and kaboom..... gone is the plane...

    Destruction on a ludicrous scale

Well, a question is whether it has to go out in a single big bang, or do you want something progressive such that the PC's can stop it, but there is still lots dustruction that already happened? If you go for the big bang, then something akin to a huge bomb, the sun going supernova etc. is the...
