    more variant illithids?

Yep, Indeed there is. In the Fiend Folio, you can find the Half-Illithid tamplate with the example using a lizardfolk (Tzandi or something). An updated version of the template also appears in Underdark, with the example being a mindwitness (half-illithid beholder)

Actually, yes. Still, it is an example on how templates may not get the CR right all the time. You should acid test to see how things stand when applying templates. Especially big ones like Pseudonatural (ELH) and Paragon.

Oddball animated skeletons -- any suggestions?

101 Skeleton Adventure hooks: A skeleton that walks around commenting on all the ladies femurs and cheekbones. A giant skeleton with two small skulls lodged in the eyesockets. The smaller skulls verbally order the giant skeleton where to step when it walks and where to swing when it attacks...

Hmmm, The SR is a bit high, but that may be ok, a 10th-level sorcerer or wizard would have to roll a 14 or better to beat it's SR. That may be mitigated by Spell Penetration/Greater Spell Penetration, but assuming it is not, that is a 70% spell failure rate. The standard rate is 55% (11+CR), but...

CR 10 is waaaay to high. Despite it's high attack and AC numbers, it's low hit points severly limit it. I would put it's CR at 3. A 3rd level Sorcerer with Magic Missile would do an average of 7 damage, and would automatically beat it's Spell resistance. In fact, only a 1st level wizard even...

What monster has the longest name?

*pretends to have no brain* Really? What connection?? Seriously though, the Tyrannohamsterous Rex is pretty long. D'oh Shirokinukatsukami has 1 more letter than the Tyrannohamsterous Rex (or the same if you count the space)

AD&D 1E Where are they Now? - 1E Monster Manual II

Thri-kreen are also in the XPH, Mist Dragon is in Dragons of Faerûn. Dracolisk was done as a half-black dragon basilisk in the Draconomicon web-enhancement. (And yes, it did say Dracolisk). Amon, Duke of Hell is in the Book of Vile Darkness Web Enhancement (under the Servants of Geryon)...

    A few questions...

Actually, no. There is no difference game-mechanically. The rest is just flavor text. As long as a creature possesses a Constitution score, it is considered "living" and thus susceptable to the ability. One could argue that intelligent undead still have souls and outsiders may not, but because...

    Converting True Dragons

Also for the spells and spell-likes, would it be able to cast 2 spells a round. Would that would be too much? Multiple Heads (Ex): Each of a rain dragon's two heads can take a standard action each round. Thus, it may make two bite attacks, use two breath weapons, or any combination of the two...

    Converting True Dragons

Hmm, I notice that the jaguar head does more damage than the snake head. Should we try to preserve this? Also, the "rain" had a 1d4 damage/round for drowning? Should we try to preserve this effect? I would say no. I have always had a fondness for the Tlalocoatl. That said, I have also had a...

Kit's Animals & Vermin + Templates = Sadistic Fun thread

Perhaps if you could tell us the template? I am thinking Tauric snake/medusa, though it is technically not legal, looks neat. And here is another neat monster, again the Cleric likes to summon this beastie. This is a Fire Element Stegosaurus. Thunderfire Lizard Gargantuan Elemental (Augmented...

Can Spell Focus be used with spell-like abilities?

I recall seeing somewhere official that Ability Focus only applies to one SLA at a time (I can't remember where, possibly in a re-print for MM3 or MM4??) No word on the Focus' but I presume they do NOT affect SLA's, as they are not Spells. That is why creatures have Ability focus. Granting both...

Creating Davy Jones (now with Pirates of the Caribbean 3 spoilers)

The half-illithid template (Fiend Folio, Underdark), and corrupted creature template (Book of Vile Darkness) can turn humanoids into aberrations and are templates. Additionally, the Aberration type fits the concept better than Monstrous humanoids. They are more than just monstrous humanoids...
