My last gaming session made me uncomfortable...

Something "off color" happened once while I was DM. Though there were no repercussions from it directly, the memory has kept me from doing it again. I think all DMs make that kind of "mistake" once (at least). If it bugs you, forgive yourself and move on.

    A More Sensible Monk

We have actually tried a number of things in our group (none of which seemed to have any balance changing impact on the game at all although I am sure there are people out there who could find a way to do so). The things we have tried (in no particular order) are: 1.) Slightly tweeked the...

    Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper

Just bought 6 cases. Yes it is good. The caffine free diet Dr. Pepper was the only one that had no "after taste" to speak of. Hard to get though; I had to keep a standing order with a grocery chain to get it. This new one tastes great, and I have not noticed an after taste with it.

Coolest, Most Heroic, and Stupidest Heroes of all time...

Coolest: I am going to say Matt Helm (that should keep some of you guessing). Most Heroic: I have to agree with ragboy about Captain America for many reasons. Dumbest: Dudley Doright ... c'mon, really.

    DM's: Highest Level Campaign?

Our last campaign took the characters from 1st level to 18-20th level. I think they are cured of wanting high level campaigns, however, and all it took was one lizardman monk in a dead magic area of a swamp. It seems the most entertaining levels are from 4th - 7th, and it is best if the...

    Mind flayer tentacle arrangement?

Well... no option for "does it really matter" so...I will pick diamond, or roughly diamond (perhaps the two side ones a bit lower so that the bottom 3 are somewhat closer together). In the past we played them as having only three as, to us anyway, it seemed that a bottom tentacle would just be...

Describe your homebrew in one sentence.

Currently: The world still remembers the day the sun went dark and hordes of the dark races swarmed upon the face of the earth destroying everything in their path; the gnomes and halflings were wiped out in just a few days, the elves were enslaved, the dwarves have sealed themselves in their...

    Orc Blood and Double Axe

If I am not mistaken, an exotic weapon becomes a martial weapon for the race in question. If I am mistaken, it is a good idea anyway.

    Halflings -- should they die?

Of course it all boils down to personal preferences. I prefer "non-silly" comic relief myself that a serious character provides on occassion (such as Worf or Data in the STNG series), rather than some strange little beast/creature/character (like that little red hat wearing thing in the old...

Do you power game from 1st level?

In our group of 6 players: one "powergames" from 1st level every time, and three of them sometimes at start but mostly around 5th or 6th level is when they take a serious look at it, one always flows as the story flows, and one is just generic the whole way. Personally, I leave the...

Armor as DR, has it worked for you?

About two months ago we started using the Defensive bonus option from UA and we also just turned the armor/natural armor bonus into non-lethal damage, and everyone really likes it. Combat has become less lethal (which is what I was hoping for), but armored characters tend to be knocked...

Does the Trapsense ability, for a Rogue, come into play in this situation?

Actually, I wouldn't be enough of a dick to put a sphere of annihilation in a game unless there was a really, really high chance that the adventurers would know what it was. Umm...you do recognize a sarcastic example when you see one do you not? Perhaps not. The point was: if a character...

Does the Trapsense ability, for a Rogue, come into play in this situation?

It is always entertaining to read opposite ideas on one subject. Since they are both largely opinions, here is my two-cents: It was detectible and able to be disarmed. The rogue was not successful at one or both. At that point (if he detected it but was unable to disarm it), if it was a glyph...

    Turning Undead variant

Kerrick, 'misses' was in quotes for a reason, but rather than try to explain what that means just understand that if the cleric's attack roll is not high enough to fully affect the undead, the undead only takes half damage. To put it in terms those of you who are not using the "Players make all...

    Turning Undead variant

There are actually a number of other "variant" turning threads going on, but I am going to interject one of them here. Our group has been using the damage idea rather than turning for about a month now. The players absolutely LOVE IT. I feel it will still need some adjustments, but it is working...

    Destruction Of The Undead

We used the attack roll idea last night: d20 + 1/2 cleric level + CHR modifier verses the undead's TC (turning class for lack of a better term) of HD + WIS/CHR modifier (if any) + turn resistance, inflicting 1d6 hp per level of cleric to all within a 60' diameter burst. The attack roll and the...

    Spontaneous Metamagic Variant

Yes, Monte Cook's AU is what I was referring to. Quite frankly Thanee, we have not had any problems. We are currently using the D&D spells (though I think we will be changing to the AU spells with the next campaign), but we have not used all of the metamagic feats. Under AU there is one feat...

    Spontaneous Metamagic Variant

We have been using the MetaMagic Feat method from Arcana Unearthed and it works like a charm. No math (very important since some gamers seem to have as much trouble with math as they do with spelling), no concern over what level spell it has to be, and no worry about "how many times per day you...

    Glyph of Warding

I can only tell you how I handle it as DM though I too have been "frustrated" dealing with glyphs. Rogues can detect and deactivate a Glyph, but the rolls are much higher than mechanical traps (the books talk about magical traps, so you have that info already). If a rogue successfully detects...

    Who needs sleep?

Well, I turned 41 last week, so I guess 41 years. Sleep is a deeper subject than "do you sleep or not." There is good sleep, and there is sleep, and there is no sleep. I make sure that my body lays down for at least 6 hours every day (usually no more than 7 1/2). My eyes are closed for about 4...
