Why do all classes have to be balanced?

That's because he's talking about Open/Close. Different spell.

Rule of the Three (1st of May)

Non-optional feats. Pfft. I also was hoping for feats to be gone/optional. IMO, what is gained is not worth the consequences of having them in in the first place. I wonder how (or if) the game will play if one rips the whole feat-er, THEME system out.

Are the polls a correct measurment of what the dnd players want?

One hopes so. Honestly I'd be surprised if any of the poll related feedback has much of an effect. Probably unpleasantly, simply because my tastes tend to differ from most of the respondents, all snark aside.

Why do all classes have to be balanced?

Eh, balance isn't really that important for me, at least not in the way it's obsessed about nowadays. No, I don't want any of my players to be standing around feeling useless....but that doesn't happen in games I run. If it happens to characters I'm playing, then there's generally something at...

    Are you convinced yet?

I am interested but if WotC wants my money, then the burden is on them to convince me. Until I have facts in front of me (and more than a few) sufficient for an informed decision, I will remain interested but that's it. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the playtest.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D next ... fate or doom ?

I think you perhaps took my post a bit more seriously than it was meant. Though I was unaware that Pepsi next was still being consumed/produced. Make no mistake however, that I think D&D Next is a dumb name, and screams volumes at me at having been produced by the stellar engineering that is...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D next ... fate or doom ?

No idea, no way to tell, but if they don't drop the "D&D Next" name I predict a lot of fiscally based disappointment for WotC. And what's up with all references to 5e, or D&D Next, or the next edition (there, that one worked) being linked to the Fifth Edition preview page?

Are the polls a correct measurment of what the dnd players want?

What, no poll? Yeah a bit late on that, I'll admit. Generally, I find them about as useful and valid as any opinion based poll which is to say, very very very little. The notion that they could be useful as an accurate barometer of anything for WotC save "What some of the poll responders...

    AD&D 1E The indispensible 1e

Very true, but the reprint cover was by Jeff Easley. Sutherland, Trampier, Otus, Roslof, Willingham, and Dee *defined* D&D to me for many years. Man, I love those old school artists.

Dungeon Board Game - October 2012

That's actually by Jim Roslof (you can see his signature in the left corner) though having owned that precise edition of the game, I do recall some good old Otus art in the rules I think. Good times. If this is functionally the same game, I'm going to have to pick this up.

    D&D 3.x The indispensable 3.5

The OGL (and thus Necromancer Games, among others), the SRD, ascending AC, the sorcerer (though I give props to Pathfinder for really making it shine), the idea of templates (not so much the execution), selection of class by race opened up, Eberron, and Lords of Madness.

    D&D 4E The Indispensable 4e

Rituals, minions, an encouragement to reskin/refluff existing content, "unaligned," Warlocks, Avengers, Invokers, and a core book race of elves who aren't tree huggers but arcanists.

    AD&D 1E The indispensible 1e

For one thing, multiclassing! Being able to start as a fighter/magic-user rather than having to wait til such-and-such level, worry about PrCs and "optimize your build" to minimize the amount of suck you'll acquire every time the rest of the party levels. 1e AD&D characters advance slower but...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Regardless of how I feel about the man as a designer, I have to wonder why so many people seem to be taking this as some kind of reason / opportunity to impugn the guy's character. For some reason. It's just a game people.

The Quality of Gaming Products Today

I find that it helps to be picky about what you are acquiring for the game, regardless of it's source. Second and third party stuff is more infamous for being (charitably) sub-standard, but most of my favorite D&D books are third party stuff. (Hells, a couple of third party supplements are what...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Well, that's a surprise. Can't say it affects my feelings about 5e one way or another, but it does make me wonder if they're going to do some kind of course correction in terms of what direction the game rules take. Not that we have enough information to be able to tell anyway.

    A very basic Basic question

Indeed. I was probably thinking of the differences between Holmes and Moldvay; having since checked, initiative is uncharged from Moldvay through the Rules Cyclopedia, which collect the BECMI rules through the masters set. Otherwise, clerics advance at the same rate but their spell progression...

    A very basic Basic question

Yes, the few differences are very minor - if memory serves the biggest difference between the two was initiative but I don't recall what the differences were. (Actually on some reflection, the advancements for clerics and I think thieves were a bit different in the respective Expert sets but...

    D&D 5E (2014) How are you feeling about 5e?

I didn't see an option for "tired of all the over-speculating over the crumbs of information WotC gives out / start the damn playtest already." Because honestly, the longer that goes on, the less I am likely to care by the time the playtest does actually start.
