    Should point buy be discouraged?

If you give a player a choice, they can choose the optimum. For example, when variable weapon damage was introduced to D&D, the first character to use a higher-damage weapon can be accused of min-maxing. The question remaining is: how many choices should be eliminated from the game in order to...

Core Classes: What and how many

Presumably to make my wife happy, since that's her favorite 4e class (well, that and the Executioner).

How Many 1st Level Fighters Should a 10th Level Fighter Beat?

I'll use Tarantino as a guide and say at least 88.

What's the best that Monte Cook and Mearls have done so far?

I'm curious why it's still open? (he said while stupidly bumping the thread)

Core Classes: What and how many

I think it would nice to have a good swordmage/bladesinger/gish in core without resorting to multiclass rules.

Weird weapons that should make a comeback

I'd be happy with: Light weapons d4 Medium weapons d6 Heavy weapons d8 with feats or class options to increase the die type.

    Was Thac0 really that bad?

Like much of D&D, Thac0 was was good game design about 30 years ago. But like all things, game systems get streamlined and improved. Reading threads about resurrecting Thac0 is like watching a hipster play around with a plastic Instamatic.

What's the best that Monte Cook and Mearls have done so far?

Oh that was pretty bad. But I expect we'll end up with an intro adventure that features a small humanoid monster that the party can adopt---Meepo and Splug being the most memorable bits from the last two.

An Essay to Wizards of the Coast

Which is a valid and popular playstyle, granted. But when a player has handed me a full-page background for a first-level character, the last thing I want to see is one unlucky hit forcing them to start from scratch.

    Should point buy be discouraged?

Point-buy *was* my preferred system, but now I'm a fan of having Standard Arrays (six or so) that the player can choose from. And yes, my belief that faster, simpler systems are best has become a fetish. I recognize this.

    Feats

I love me some 4e, but I am tired of feats. They were sold to me as a way to allow for deep character customization, but essentially they end up being dozens of conditional bonuses to shop for and track. I'm over it. Let's try them optional or rare (maybe three per character career).

An Essay to Wizards of the Coast

You seem happy with Pathfinder. Mazel tov. But there since your perfect 5e seems to be 'forget 4e ever happened and clean up Pathfinder a bit', I don't see how you are going to entice any 4e fans to this particular table.

Pathfinder 1E is a big Pathfinder surge on the way?

I have a dozen books and hundreds of MB worth of game materials/adventures in a game my group loves. Not to mention that adventures are ridiculously easy to compose in 4e. Pray tell why I have any desire to migrate to Pathfinder should we not like 5e?

    Class Balance - why?

Reminds me of our Hexblade who has focused on social skills---to the detriment of his combat utilty. He can hold his own during fights (4e tends to prevent utter incompetence), but he is a master of the honeyed word during roleplaying encounters. There is a tribe of orcs outside of their keep...
