D&D 4E Did WOTC lie to 4e players about 5e?

Yes, which is why answered your question, "did wizards lie to 4e players about 5e." Okay.

So what races and classes do we consider core?

That's the point---we ALL have one or more of those players at our table. They want to play D&D, and they want to play a non-standard race. I'd rather run a game that accommodates this player than one that excludes them.

"'Kill it before it grows'...he said 'Kill it before it grows'..."

Not at all. Providing some old-school options may just be the only way to bring some 'unity' back to the game---and that's somehting I wholeheartedly support. In fact, I would be very interested in a 5e that played differently at *every* table without house rules.

D&D 4E Did WOTC lie to 4e players about 5e?

I can't speak to the Pathfinder DM in the video, but I don't feel lied to by Wizards. So. No.

Bring Back Verisimilitude, add in More Excitement!

Ah, that makes sense. My groups have tended to think of our game using fictional tropes---the encounter as scene concept simply makes sense to us (both inside and outside of combat, by the way. A roleplaying scene is as much an encounter as a fight scene.) What I like about applying the...

What would you rather see: core rulebook or traditional trilogy?

One complete book would be perfect---because it reduces the chances of it being 1/2 filled with spell and power listings.

Should swapping weapons cost actions? Is it worth tracking what is in your hands?

As someone who cares less and less about managing little events that don't really add to the game, I don't think I'd bother with having a detailed list of every action. Just a general time frame for a turn's duration and common sense as a guideline.

Bring Back Verisimilitude, add in More Excitement!

The Encounter as a discrete measurement of time may be 4e's most important contribution to the game. I can only hope it is retained and expanded upon going forward.

Zombies that need to stay dead. DEAD.

    * Different XP for different classes. Stake. Behead. Holy wafers in mouth. * Favored class. Iconic class / race combinations will be rewarded by good support, they shoul NOT receive XP bonuses on top I don't think *anyone* wants to see this * Detect Alignment spell *any* mechanics tied to...

So what races and classes do we consider core?

I'm liking the Orc option more end more. They fulfill both the 'strong guy' and 'savage' archetypes pretty well, something the other core races lack. (of course, I may be biased by my awesome Orsimer character in Skyrim. Hey, he's good enough to be dovahkiin, but not play Keep on the...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Oh hells yeah. I'm on record saying that D&D shouldn't *need* a healing class. I love the Warlord more than any other class but I'd cheerfully give it up if it accompanied the cleric on the ash-pile of history. edit: although to be honest, during my time as a Warlord I only spent 20% or so...

D&D 4E What should 5e do to pull in 4e players?

Can't give out any more XP, so I just wanted to point out that you articulated my thoughts as a 4e player perfectly. I especially appreciate the 'nod to contemporary fantasy': The recommended reading (and viewing, and playing) list has grown quite a bit over the past 30 years. I'm glad I'm not...

Should we get rid of demons and devils?

Please make sure you pass this on to Wizards during the playtest.

Bring Back Verisimilitude, add in More Excitement!

And honestly, we need to either face the fact that the game requires metagame restrictions on character power, or come up with an alternative that makes real-world sense without turning it into a game of awesome Wizards and pathetic Muggles.

Bring back the exposed boobs on the Monsters!

There's plenty of fun in the game to be had by playing pretend elves and stabbing pretend orcs. If that isn't enough, the internet is open 24/7 for those who need to see teh bewbz.

D&D 4E What should 5e do to pull in 4e players?

My group(s) of 4e enthusiasts average 36 years of age and most started with AD&D. We could all easily pick up OSRIC or C&C (or even our AD&D or 3.5 books off the shelves), but we play 4e because it is our game of choice in a crowded marketplace. In the main we dutifully pay our DDI...

Why we need Warlords in D&DN

Knight would be a perfect choice---in fact, while I love the Essentials Knight, I always thought the name was ill-fitted. But Knight as battlefield leader? Inspiring.
