    OSRIC v1.00 released.

Treebore, thats a very kind offer. Has anyone asked Joe B if he might be interested? So Joe B would you be interested? :) I wonder if the OSRIC-C could be finished by then?

    Who attends GenCon?

Just curious about who here regularly attends GenCon, and who plans on going this year. I have never attended, but would consider it if I had the time. Also, when you go to these events how much $ do you typically spend (on products), and do you find much or any support for OOP D&D (GG last...

    OSRIC v1.00 released.

I wonder if one of the OSRIC publishers already going to GenCon (hint hint) might take pre-orders. even a few display samples put out would be kinda cool (maybe a few Monster books as well). Also, an OSRIC banner (splitting a booth?), now that would be cool. ;)

    selling 3.5

Treebore is correct I think. It does allow a wide scope. That said, you might just rotate (if your players don't have 1E books download OSRIC and pass it around).

    OSRIC v1.00 released.

Greg K: "Well, looking at the sample monsters, it doesn't appear to be my thing. Its nice to see frequency back in the write-ups, but mechanically I wouldn't go back to 1e for play or DMing. However, I do wish you to the best of luck." The monsters should be fine for C&C at least (as 1E is...

    Alignment myths?

In real life this all boils down to one thing guys; does the person commiting the act know what they are doing is evil. I think in D&D (all versions) there is an assumed base of knowledge in this regard, so that "universally" everyone understands what good and evil are. Also consider the fact...

    OSRIC v1.00 released.

I like OSRIC, its familiar but not too familiar; makes one curious, "what the bleepin' hell is OSRIC and they download it, just to see". :D Anyhow, its probably too late to change the name this late in the game. Though I'd second this as the official tag line: Q: "OSRIC - the tannin and...

    New (free) AD&D Module Ahoy!

Well written free 1E material....always outstanding! :p Thanks DF! Anyone run Jarls? I have it downloaded but never got around to playing it. Maybe I'll give this new one a run this weekend.

Question for the grognards: Why does D&D have dwarves/elves/hobbits etc.?

Foster: "The quote I use is that D&D really sucks at trying to emulate any single pre-existing fantasy world, but it's absolutely unparalleled in emulating all of them at once -- Conan, Merlin, Frodo, John Carter, and the Gray Mouser teamed up together doing battle against Dracula, The Blob...

Question for the grognards: Why does D&D have dwarves/elves/hobbits etc.?

Melan, those are some interesting thoughts. When I first encountered D&D (1E in my case) I had already read "The Hobbit". And thats what I was told to expect. AD&D is "its own thing" in that respect. I remember when I first started playing it reminded me of a spagetti western with swords and...

Question for the grognards: Why does D&D have dwarves/elves/hobbits etc.?

I agree with Cy, Gygax IMO did base D&D on the LOTR (esp. "the Hobbit"). He won't admit it, but if you look at other things (for instance, alot of the spells cast etc.) OD&D has a very Hobbit feel to it IMO (espl. if you focus only on the first 3 books and ignore outside sources. Wasn't there...

Whats the biggest group you've DMed for?

Well, I did cut their number down to 6 PDQ. It was interesting to see all the things people attempted to do in their first battle (against a bunch of goblins and wolves). The funny thing was that it really did pan out that the experianced players were the ones that made it...even with nuetral...

Whats the biggest group you've DMed for?

Q: "11 people, but just once...man, 30 people?!?!?!" Yep, the good ol' D&D club. When they first announced the club we figured there'd be at most 10 people show up...nope (and after I left the group surged to 50 members and had 3 tables going at once, all in a school with only 350 students)...

Whats the biggest group you've DMed for?

For me, around 30 +/- way back when 86?. Our school had a gaming club and I sat as DM a couple times. It wasn't so bad. OK only a dozen had any idea of what they were doing. The others kind of sat back and watched, and rolled when the dice came their way (and each of the more experianced...

So who's played with Gygax as DM?

Cool stories guys, thanks for sharing. ;)

So who's played with Gygax as DM?

Another thread concerning gaming at Cons has made me curious; so who here has played AD&D1 with Gygax? And what can you share about his particular style of DMing? I already know he uses house rules as far as combat goes, but thats not really of interest to me (IMO as long as combat is not...

    I've never played AD&D1

TFoster: "Back in the 80s, every RPGA tournament I ever played in had 6 players per table (except the AD&D Open at GenCon, which had 9 players per table)" Just out of curiosity, were players allowed to bring their own PCs in tournaments (assuming they were proper leve), or did they have to use...

How common were wishes in AD&D1?

IMO Tough to DM (whats the limit, and should the outcome be favorable, how imp. is the wording going to be etc.), and risky to use as a player (whats the DM going to do). I've seen wishes used maybe a dozen times since I started playing. And its always one of those things that stops the flow...

NOT AN EDITION WARS THREAD: 1E'ing 3E

Q: "but I find it strange when people compare the "play styles" of 1e through 3e to eachother and say they are vastly different" I don't think they are vastly different. Risk and 1E are vastly different. ;) Still, every game with different rules will result in different feels when played...

NOT AN EDITION WARS THREAD: 1E'ing 3E

Henry is correct: "That's my feeling, as well. It uses the Basic language of d20, but it restructures classes, DCs, and assumptions about character power to aesthetics that are much closer to AD&D 1st edition. OSRIC is great for bringing AD&D1 itself back to life from OOP death, but C&C is a...
