So, what was the first product where D&D's soul was sold?

Storm Raven, I would consider TLG doing well for a small team compared to other ventures...hell, they can afford to pay for Gary (who I'm sure ain't cheap). Of course its all relative, I see being able to feed yourself and pay your bills and live in mild comfort, while creating something you...

    ENworld, a home for 1Eers?

Whiz and other long standing members, please give people a chance, they may not be the evil invading droids you think. You don't like 1E I get that. You want ENworld to be a 3E centric place...I get that too. But there's no reason to post in threads that don't interest you. As the above...

So, what was the first product where D&D's soul was sold?

Storm, it is the difference between publishing books and board games. C&C is a company that has kept a pretty good focus on putting out a core system and then supporting it with mostly modules. And they are doing rather well for a small team.

    ENworld, a home for 1Eers?

Shil, we really need to hunt that mimmic down! My last 1E game (last weekend) resulted in a single giant spider wiping out the entire party (5 of us between 1 and 3rd)! Talk about a series of lucky bites, and bad save roles. We quickly rolled up some new PCs however, and delt revenge...

    ENworld, a home for 1Eers?

Rep: "...in the backs of 3.5E players everywhere, by the ravening, barbarous hordes from Dragonsfoot." :D :D :D Mol, lets hope we do see things settle enough for 1Eers to start posting about games and such, I too would love to see that here. I don't blame you for being a skeptic however...

So, what was the first product where D&D's soul was sold?

Merric, what I'm talking about are game makers like "Front Porch Games" that establish one game, and move on to another. They do not experiance the sudden drop off in sales often linked to book sales. Here is that companys link: http://www.frontporchclassics.com/ This company comes out with...

    ENworld, a home for 1Eers?

Sorry Wiz, I'm still amazed that ENworld isn't the fire pit it used to be (and couldn't help but make this post). Once upon a time there was open warfare between the 2 camps...no longer. I hope your in agreement that both sides should try communicating instead of insulting and shouting.

    ENworld, a home for 1Eers?

I never thought I'd see the day that 1E and 3E advocates could get along...but it seems these two groups have done very well ;) despite a bunch of active threads that compare systems. It seems ENworld (for the most part) is turning out to be another place that welcomes 1Eers...and I think...

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Whiz, all I meant was that historically, when a new version of D&D comes out it seems like many (if not most) players abandon the older system there playing for the newer one (at least that was my experiance with 2E and 3E). I didn't mean to suggest that going back to earlier editions was...

So, what was the first product where D&D's soul was sold?

Someone posted a link about this (at DF I think) need to keep publishing vs. other games that can live off one system and a smaller amount of support material. The short of it was that they are using more of a publishing business model (rather then the game business model). Publishers have to...

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Q: "So lets hope ENWorld can take those steps and become a bigger and stronger internet community because of it. It is literally up to us individual posters to make it happen." Well said! This is not a site only for 3E. All versions are and should be welcome, and I think the vast majority of...

What was your favorite monster (from MM, FF, or MM2)

Sorry, I'm too out of the loop with WOTCs new monster manuals, so I didn't include them. Pick 1 only...I know its hard. Mine: The Troll. This guy just "was" AD&D to me. Intellegent, humanoid but also monsterous and almost magical (in its regeneration ability) and being a fungus! The image of...

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

It will be interesting to see how many 3E players jump to 4E and leave 3E behind as an old memory. I wouldn't be surprised to see an upswing in the popularity of C&C and 1E either once 4E pops in...to the point that it equals the number still playing 3E? Probably not, but the 2 groups will move...

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Agreed, 3E did a good job of revitalizing the old 1E players. Many stopped playing 1E when 2E came out (moved on got married had kids) then when 3E came out got interested again. Those that bought 3E probably stuck with it, but a few discovered (or rediscovered) 1E or OD&D and picked up that...

    Why the hate?

I find ENworld a very friendly place by comparison. And I agree with Treebore 100%...lets remind each other to be polite. And perhaps try skipping over threads that don't interest you or those that will get you to loose your cool; likely someone else will agrue your point anyway.

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Q: "From the success of the game it is evident that WOTC delivered a lot to a lot of people." Agreed. 1E players (that stopped playing D&D after 2E became popular) were a handful of people by the time 3E came out...compared to the entire market. Maggan, yeah I missed the later stuff that was...

So, what was the first product where D&D's soul was sold?

OK that was my take on the thread anyway.....jeeze! To me, anyway, there's a difference between early TSR and late, and $$$ and corporate motivation became its driving force. The addition of core books that changed the rules of the game, IMO was when the shark was jumped, and the "spirit" of...

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

Magan, it was "leaked" here and other places (before 3E was released) that 3E was going to be a return to 1Eish D&D. Hype was built (I think intentionally) by WOTC to get old 1E players (who didn't like 2E) to buy the game when it was released. I jumped in and purchased all the core books. It...

Did someone declare January "Edition Wars" month?

As a long time lurker, and someone that started playing D&D back in the late 70s, I found it amazing that the water temp here had gotten low enough to jump back in the pool. I suspect alot of others who prefer 1E and OD&D feel the same way. So, I don't see any reason to turn the temp. back up...
