    3e 18 months in

That's my favourite solution as well: Have the player put something physical on his character sheet. Helps to remember the condition, and to remember to make the saving throw. If I don't have a special token available, almost anything will work--sometimes we just use extra minis.

    Has Scott's replacement been announced?

In contrast, when I was looking to hire an Associate Brand Manager, it took us five months to fill the slot. Situations vary, in business as in all aspects of life. Don't read too much into it.

    3e 18 months in

Without getting in the historical context of exactly how complex 3E was at what point, I have to agree with you completely. I've been playing a lot of 4E (and running some, and even writing some), but my personal campaign is still OGL and I still draw a lot upon 3E materials. I was just going...

Tiles and Maps, Actually Printed -- NOT Pdf. Any Ideas?

Rackham produced a number of sets of 12" x 12" tiles. Interior and exterior spaces, 1" grid, great artwork. Printed on heavy stock, but not gameboard like the WotC tiles. Definitely fantasy, themed around their Cadwallon setting but useful for most medieval fantasy type stuff. Each set had 10 or...

    Has Scott's replacement been announced?

At WotC, as at most US companies, a Director is someone who sits between the manager level and the VP level. Liz Schuh was Scott's boss; before that she was my boss. This is not in reference to Scott's position (note also that that listing has been up since early August); I think this is the...

DDI Online Gametable - Reality or Myth?

Chris Youngs was over here in the UK for WWDDGD last month, and he talked a bit about upcoming features and applications for DDI. (Chris is the Editor-in-Chief for DDI.) He confirmed what others have already said in this thread: They have moved to a policy of not announcing anything major until...

    Thank You

Really sorry to hear it, Scott. But welcome to the exclusive club of ex-D&D Brand Managers! Given your nearly 4 years in office, you have a privileged place in our ranks: (by my count, at least) you were the longest-serving D&D Brand Manager (or equivalent) of the WotC era. I don't know, maybe...

    Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader

It so happens I played my first session of a new Dark Heresy campaign last night. I'm a complete neophyte to both system and setting; outside of the odd game of Blood Bowl and Space Hulk, I've never really played any Games Workshop games.* I haven't completely grokked the system yet, but it...

Three questions that help characters be fleshed out

Another thought on this topic: In one of 3.5 Eberron books (Five Nations, I think), there were sidebars on various topics built around a five-things-everyone-knows meme. Like "Five Things Every Karnathi Knows." I thought this was a great idea, and I've run with it. I start many of my game...

Three questions that help characters be fleshed out

Don't discount the possibility that making up such details is, for many people, hard, and if there isn't some sort of positive reward, a lot of gamers just aren't into the exercise. Heck, in my campaign I do offer concrete rewards for players who put this sort of meat on the bone, and I still...

    New D&D Website

I went to a movie the other day, and they showed some previews. Only they were really short: Like in this one scene, something was coming out of the darkness, and I couldn't tell if it was a zombie or a monster or somebody's dad or what. And then there were some people shooting, but I couldn't...

    New D&D Website

Your conclusion isn't supported by your argument. There are two issues here: Piquing interest and getting free stuff. I agree with your point that using the galleries to pique interest in print products is a valuable marketing tool. But guess what: That element is still there. All of the...

If IKEA Made a Dedicated Gaming Table, Would You Buy It?

Funny you should mention it, but I bought a game table from IKEA just a few weeks ago! It's a Norden table; you can have a look here: IKEA | Small space dining | Extendable tables | NORDEN | Gateleg table Nothing exceptionally gamery about it, except that: It's pretty darn big--it takes my...

    AD&D1 Monster Manual Comics

I love bad gods, and the monster manual series is awesome. I had never come across the books of ratings, though and those are also worth a laugh. Thanks for the link!

Any Gamers In Brighton (Sussex, England)? A New Game Shop Is Opening

Yep, they're confirmed. I'd love to drop by on Saturday, but I'll be up at Fanboy 3 in Manchester. Have a great time!

UK Gamers: WWDDGD is 19 September!

Please do! I don't know much about Wargames Heaven, other than they've just opened, they're in Brighton, and they apparently have a lot of OP space. But I'd love to see them have a successful launch and quickly build a community of gamers (of all stripes, not just D&D). Hopefully WWDDGD can be a...

I have a confession to make...

I don't think it's such a paradox. As a GM, I'm all over long- and short-term plot, a rich world, well-realized NPCs, and rich interaction between characters, the game world, and NPCs. I love exploring, mysteries, the big reveal, and high drama. Check out my campaign wiki (Magica group) over on...

    WFRP3e: Dice mechanics

I'm with the "in favour of it" crowd for now. Truthfully, I don't know whether I'll like it or not--but I can't wait to try it and find out! The world has plenty of 320-page hardcover rulebooks. It's possible there are other formats/interfaces/methods of play that would work as well or better...
