    Ilshara: Lands Of Exile

As a PDF file downloaded it can be printed at full size - a bmp or jpeg would lose a lot. I can certainly put up a separated jpeg image for it as well, but I find this works well - if someone wants a small photo-file of any section, most pdf readers have area selector tools.

    Ilshara: Lands Of Exile

If you check out my website, you will find that I have revised my campaign setting, Ilshara: Lands of Exile - click on the link under the sig below! Not only is a new Hex map (in the old Mystara style) up, but the Gazetteer and the overall setting have been revisited, making this as...

    The State of Our Hobby

Ya know, If Hasbro and WotC REALLY wanted to be gutsy, they'd establish design teams and publish material for multiple editions at once. Wouldn't be too hard to do market research to determine the % of interest among "D&Ders", then produce proportional works for different eras. :D Fanciful...

You gotta love a thread that's giving at least two of us the chance to say... "plethora" He he, cool...

    The State of Our Hobby

I understand and empathize with what you are feeling, but the above is just not accurate - "home" doesn't necessarily mean "official, as currently published, D&D." I turned to discover my "home" with Castles & Crusdaes. Others found it with 3.5. Still others with Mutants & Masterminds, still...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

This is really the only thing I truly disagree with (with all due respect to the fine people at Necromancer games).... Better for some, yes. Better for others, no. The only reality is that it is different, and be self-admission seeks to change the paradigm again. There IS a distinct...

    Pathfinder 1E Pramas on Paizo

GR has also said Freeport will be released for C&C, so they're obviously looking at the market as far more completely fractured already... I wouldn't be surprised if what he says about the ripples through the third-publishers continues beyond Paizo.

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

If my fears about that are wrong, I'll be the 1st to say I'm glad to see that I am. :) There are still other issues I have with the core paradigm of 4e, but I certainly don't intend to disparage it incorrectly about the DM's place in the system. I still would worry, however, that the same...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

Actually I don't think we're that far off... I agree completely that, as a DM, if I ever say "just because I said so" to a player and claimed DM Fiat it'd be a real bad thing.... continual arbitrary reversal of rules will lead to players having a real bad experience. This, however, was what I...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

Of course, the info we're getting indicates that Hasbro/WotC is reacting to this with very clever marketing -- they're going to wait and NOT include some of these things (Gnomes anyone?) and only add them in yearly NEW core books (IIs, IIIs, IVs of PHB, MM & DMG). As I have read this thread...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

Actually there's a big difference there lol - "OD&D" is the very 1st, digest-booklet rules put out in the early-mid 70's. "Basic D&D" and "Advanced D&D" were separate editions that were put out several years later. And when dealing with "Basic," you have the Holmes-edited original, the...

Is this what you went through with 3rd Edition?

Man, my neck aches from the back and forth.... like a tennis match with John McEnroe! :] Ok, so in response to the OP's question, I offer my response: For me, personally, no it's nothing like my experience. In watching others, it's like watching history repeat itself. For myself, I grew up...

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

You have made my metaphorical point sir! :) -- I will say this -- I offer my hopes for those who are excited about 4e that it doesn't turn out to be "New Coke."

    D&D 4E 4e - Is it really D&D Yet?

It really is a free country - guy's allowed to dislike his experience as much as the next is allowed to like it. It always seems to come back to the myriad differences in what people "feel" constitutes "D&D," aside from merely having the legal right to put the title on top of a game. Hell...

Gridless combats - How do you do it?

I'll just add, as we are at a diner break on my Sunday group running a long session, that we're using my whiteboard with a dry-erase marker as we plow through EGG's "Mound Island" adventure (part two of GaryCon Worldwide since we didn't finish the crawl last week), and it works quick and fine -...

If 4th Edition didn't use the "D&D" moniker...

.. as in, if it wasn't called "Dungeons & Dragons," and bear the official imprint of this brand name... Would you but it?

Exalted vs D&D. The battlelines are drawn!

Having worked in a bookstore I can tell you this is quite true.... And believe me, as a professor who also sees editions of textbooks changed as regularly as most infants' diapers, "previous edition" books, unless they make it into the "collectible" range, suddenly become valued somewhere...

Gridless combats - How do you do it?

Ya, 4e is geared towards wargaming with combat mechanics as central, or so it seems. Nothing at all wrong with that, if your cup of tea is minature wargaming with the heavy influence of MMORG and video "hero" concepts - limit breaks, automatic powers, etc. It does veer it further away from the...
