When did you give up on Greyhawk?

Yeah I have the comedy Castle Greyhawk on shelf and haven't even bothered to try and sell it because I can't really conceive of anyone wanting it...

    Moving to C&C... need help

Precisely, and I have no problem with anyone who says "I like more specific and complex rule-sets, and the clarity of well-tested mechanics, so I'm not wild about C&C." Perfectly fine, and a legitimate RPG philosophy. If you have fun, play it! ;) Actually, to me, ALL systems are free...

    OD&D 4E and its effect on 1E/OD&D

Yeah, a flame war over 4e versus earlier/alternative editions seems a little silly when it's not even released yet. Sadly it seems inevitable anytime something "new" enters the marketplace. Language and word meanings always get in the way too -- "options" can mean different things to different...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

Ah yes - thanks for the memory refresh on Bismark. We got Starship Troopers because my dad was (and is) an enormous Heinlein fan and would read his books to us out loud every Friday night when we were young. Cheers :)

    OD&D 4E and its effect on 1E/OD&D

Actually I think I'm in agreement with both you guys and maybe my wording is just making it seem different - I would be surprised if that many players change up. Unless of course the "new" model is an Edsel. Won't really know that one until 4e is released and players have driven it for awhile.

    Moving to C&C... need help

A legitimate question - I guess it depends on the individual. Thinking a little more on it, I think I have an example of how the Siege mechanic works when using it as an applicator of feat-like endeavours: Part of the basics of the Siege engine is the CK-defined Base Challenge Rating. When a...

    Moving to C&C... need help

Again sound like you've got a good approach - no reason at all not to use multiple systems/rule-sets for differing needs of your group. :D

    Moving to C&C... need help

Whoa - if I breached civility I do apologize, but man... such a reaction. Ok, so in the spirit of conversation - How do you apply whirlwind in B/X?

    OD&D 4E and its effect on 1E/OD&D

Absolutely... ergo the point I made in my previous post above about preferences. What the thread does ask is if times of transitions like this aren't somehow naturally moments where some people do cast about for different options.... if you've been a Saturn owner and lover all your life, and the...

    OD&D 4E and its effect on 1E/OD&D

Interesting analogy - so I shouldn't think a vintage Volkswagon Bug would be more appealing than the modern version? Or the 65 Mustang should be worthless today? Classic car owners take note.... :]

    OD&D 4E and its effect on 1E/OD&D

I think the intent of some is to ask if this move will make those who ONLY know 3.x as "the D&D system" check out earlier editions. Your point about preference is absolutely right, and there certainly is enough "elitism" from all ends of the RPG perspective. I've DMd every edition from Basic...

    Moving to C&C... need help

Man, Ourph, you seem pretty hell-bent on proving that because you don't like C&C that it's a crappy system and no one should like it.... :( Trust me there are plenty of us who enjoy it. Your question - how does the siege mechanic allow for individualized actions in a game has been answered...

    TSR Q&A with Gary Gygax

I remember Sink the Bismark and Starship Troopers , and later during grad school we really got into Diplomacy :)

When did you start using Greyhawk?

Yep, me too -- 1981 with the Folio Printing, added the box set as well several years later. :D

The future of the OGL and SRD

Thanks to all - cleared up my understanding of how these licenses work. :D

The future of the OGL and SRD

So as an RPGer who primarily buys material from 3rd party (non WotC) publishers, I am interested in thoughts on the future of the OGL and SRD. It's pretty clear WotC is consolidating its exclusive rights on the D&D brand name again, as witnessed by the expiration/cancellation of licenses to 3rd...

Castle & Crusades - who has tried it and not stuck with it?

A little crashing into a thread as I am still a C&C devotee, so I apologize in advance, but having read the general comments and specifically the review above I just wanted to add my two cents... It's not surprising to me that many have tried C&C and it wasn't for them. It is a hybrid, and as...

    Moving to C&C... need help

Sounds like you are approaching the task with an excellent creative mindset, and so I would think you can make it work too! Welcome to the Crusade and, if your C&C Eberron is a success please let us know how it runs!

    Moving to C&C... need help

As I read through some of this thread a thought strikes me - There really are two schools of thought at play here (and no, I will NOT use "old" or "new" here lol) - one that likes RPG systems to give very basic mechanics and asks that individual GMs take the burden of tailoring/interpreting...

Homebrewers: How Publishable is Your Brew?

My homebrew is available free via dragonsfoot.org. Ilshara: Lands of Exile, which is actually developed from multiple differring campaigns and other influences. With so much out there I knew it would be impossible to "market" it, so I just decided to share it and the good people at Dragonsfoot...
