Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

Not to me. Just thought I'd note that players out there like this stuff. Boring is subjective.

Why do DM's like Dark, gritty worlds and players the opposite?

This has been my experience as well.

    Chaos Flask

It's going to vary depending upon the DM. The description says "nearly any single nonmagical object" can be made, but then it goes on to list specific materials it can create: living creature, metal object, stone object (diminutive in size) wood (tiny in size) cloth, leather (small in size)...

    Pimp my spooky tomb encounter

The incorporeal traits section of the DMG does put some limitations on the "inside solid objects" stuff. For example, even a few inches is enough to effectively blind an incorporeal creature. So these monsters could potentially be swinging blindly, if they go too deep for protection.

    Pimp my spooky tomb encounter

My initial comment is that incorporeal creatures usually don't come across as being as hard as their CR implies. And that's usually because the DM doesn't take proper advantage of the incorporality traits. If the creature has flyby attacks (as you mentioned) or spring attacks, that creature...

    Triadspell

Hmm. OK. That finally makes some sense. Each day when a wizard prepares spells, he/she does not have to re-prepare any slots that are just fine, and because of that, any spell that has been triadspelled would remain so. Thus, you could spend many days making all your lower spell slots...

    Triadspell

I agree. I looked at Triadspell and thought, "Hmm, so I can use up 2 spell slots and in exchange I either get to cast a 3rd & 5th level spell as normal, or I get to cast three third level spells? Using a 5th level spell is way more powerful & useful, so why bother with Triadspell?"

Hey, thanks for the XP everyone. That was nice!

Should I, or should I not (you be the DM)

Hmm. Perhaps this is the power gamer in me, or the rules lawyer, or I don't know what... but if it were me, I'd have the drow rebuild it and give it to an NPC with the "Better Lucky Than Good" feat (which converts natural 1s into natural 20s, so the weapon could be used against the players...

arguing with my DM: The Leadership feat(and a wizard)

OK, so he's tired of you pushing him. Maybe you should take the hint. So he's feeling overwhelmed, and he's taken a step to reign it in, and you've basically pressured him over & over again, to the point of (by your own words) daily nagging until he starts saying no "just for the sake of...

arguing with my DM: The Leadership feat(and a wizard)

Sure. Although I do think he has the prerogative to say, "This character is not a fighter, so you cannot take Weapon Focus, because I've decided that it's a fighter-only feat in my game." "This character is not that diplomatic, you cannot do an Aid Another for a Diplomacy roll, because I've...

    fatal flaw: low hitpoints

I think the sentiment here in the thread is that you reconsider that choice. However, I just gave a player of mine a cohort with 8 hit points at 5th level, and so I'm familiar with items to keep a character alive. First, you might consider Repelling Gauntlets, from MIC. They work as an...

Domain Spell Choice. Is this allowed?

Well, yes, but let's be precise with the language of it. Your domain spells are something akin to multi-classing, in the sense that they are a unique extra spell list that cannot be mingled with your "normal" daily spells. For example, if you take the "Travel" domain, and your cleric loves the...

arguing with my DM: The Leadership feat(and a wizard)

I think DMs are within their rights to say any crazy thing they want about the rules of the game they're running. So even if he says "rocks fall, everyone dies," I think he's well within his rights. But more directly to your point, it's only fair if you consider "equal treatment for each...

    Denied DEX = Flat-Footed?

It's probably good advice to nerf it somehow. I allowed it fully in my campaign, because my point of view was that it wasn't much better than a mirror image spell -- that is, it'll prevent you from getting hit a few times, and then that's it, back to normal. At least, that's how I played an...

    Denied DEX = Flat-Footed?

Yeah, what NewJeffCT said. If you happened to be a wizard with the Abrupt Jaunt ability, you would not be able to teleport out of danger when flat-footed, but you certainly would be able to teleport out of danger when losing dexterity due to a grapple. So it makes a difference.

Duskblade Handbook, Arcane Strike -- not right?

Ah, I see. OK, so that might explain the disagreement some were having in that thread. That is, we're not actually talking about a spell, so the spell text that changed the actions of spells doesn't apply. Having said that, it makes really good sense (to me) to apply the spell rules anyway...

Duskblade Handbook, Arcane Strike -- not right?

I was reading the Duskblade handbook, and I found some perplexing statements. Can you guys help me out? First, it cites this ridiculous post about stacking as the correct, "by the rules" method of using the Arcane Strike feat. Does anyone have any rules text that stops someone from stacking...

    Cheaty dice?

When they go, everyone else will leave as well -- the other players have big hearts, and these guys are a package deal. That's fine. At some point I'll wrap up the game and walk away from it, but for now everyone seems quite happy to continue. So, whatever works. These guys have fun with...
