    Is this broken?

Once? He's pretty up front that if I allow it, he intends to do it hundreds of times in succession so that money is basically irrelevant for him and he can have any item that exists. He has even described how, if I enact a "market glut" type of situation, he will enact a teleportation system...

    Is this broken?

From one of my players: The player wants to verify that he can embark upon this when he gains the Fabricate spell at 9th level. If you're the DM, how do you respond to this player?

    Scrolls - Wands

I think that anyone using UMD to cast from a scroll needs to decipher the scroll first -- UMD isn't enough alone. So your rogue would need to cast Read Magic or have a very high Decipher Script roll. Is that true? Can someone confirm?

Getting an animal companion with any class?

That's the Wild Cohort feat, available only at the WotC Web site, as far as I know.

Extra music without spending a feat?

Nightsticks, from Libris Mortis. 4 extra turning attempts. Possibly the most broken magic item in the history of D&D. Others can explain why, if necessary. :)

Tower of the Last Baron -- tips?

While I'm waiting for tips about Tower of the Last Baron, let me throw out a couple of other modules. I may also be running Treasure of the Black Veils, and/or Hasken's Manor. It's a fairly open-ended game, so they'll sorta latch onto whichever adventure hook captures their fancy. Any tips...

Tower of the Last Baron -- tips?

I may be running the level 5 Paizo module, Tower of the Last Baron, tomorrow or next week. I was looking for tips. If you've DM'd it (or played it, I guess), did you run into any gotchas or things you would do differently the next time you run it? What about if I want to set it in Greyhawk...

Lift and Throw Opponent: how to work it

There is also just the plain old Snatch feat from the Monster Manual. It would need to be slightly house ruled. I would change it so that it affected anyone ONE size smaller rather than three. And you'd need to have more than enough strength to lift the creature over your head. If so, the...

How to price ring of dispel magic?

You can't cast below the minimum caster level, I thought?

What are the no-goes for you?

For me, the bad stuff is somewhat opposite of those here. If you expect my character to be heroic, screw it, I'm leaving. If players speak in character, I'm walking out. Of course, I should be careful about that. I'm not actually opposed to speaking in character. That happens sometimes at...

    Forked Thread: spot checks, range?

OK, the 6 story example. City blocks range from about 250' to 900' depending upon the city. I used 400 as a typical number. At 400, you are at -40 to Spot. In other words, your DC to view something 400' away is 40. A commoner with no (or few) points in Spot will not see that something even...

    Forked Thread: spot checks, range?

Well, I found something new that I want to add to the mix to try to see how it fits. In Complete Warrior, there is this text: So... let's see if I can apply the rules in such a way as to make that text work. According to table 4-4, you can spot something in plain sight with a DC of 0. Ignore...

how do you make a Fighter be not-boring?

Herzog has it right. Wizards get spells, rogues get skills, and fighters get feats. You pick a fighter class if you want to be feat-obsessed. Sharkon also hit on a good point -- even just a single level of barbarian can do you real good. Make it your first level, and pick human for your...

    Warlock/Sorcerer advice

Spellcasting Prodigy got nerfed in 3.5 edition; it won't help with your casting DCs anymore. In 3.0 it did. I believe the feat appears in different books depending upon the version of D&D you're using. I think it went like this: D&D 3.0: Forgotten Realms Guide - it gives you +2 to your...

    Improved Trip question.

StreamOfTheSky outlined many ways to avoid the problems with tripping, and some of them are very good and legitimate. So don't be afraid to look them up and use them. And don't forget other things too, such as dwarves being more difficult to trip, four-legged creatures being impossible or...

a way to deal with lax players?

You know, you could institute the Raise Dead rule. That rule says that you follow the level loss of a Raise Dead spell even if they don't use it. In other words, if a character dies, and gets raised, they lose a level. If a character retires and the player brings in a new character, they lose...

    Forked Thread: spot checks, range?

StreamOfTheSky has part of it. I believe one of the issues went like this. Each type of land in 3.5 edition has a maximum spot distance. For example, on the plains, the average max distance for spotting is 840 feet. That's -84 to your spot check. The penalty completely undermines the...

    Forked Thread: spot checks, range?

Forked from: Spell Compendium: What are the "broken" spells? I never understood spot ranges, nor do I understand the -1/10' thing, nor do I understand the difference between 3.0 and 3.5 spot systems. Would someone enlighten me?
