D&D 4E Any Good 4E Critical Hit and Fumble Systems?

Critical fumbles can be hilarious, and usually I only use them with monsters. They're also nice to pull out when someone is doing somethings real stupid. Finally, There are groups and settings that demand a higher chance of death.

D&D 4E Any Good 4E Critical Hit and Fumble Systems?

I just picked up the Paizo Gamemastery Critical Hit and Critical Fumble decks on a whim. I like the idea of doing this kind of thing with a deck instead of a table. Seems more tangible? Maybe? I don't know what it is but I like it. Anyway, these products are 3.5-based (predictably) and while...

    Index of Insightful Posts/Threads

What's it take to get a thread stickied here? Seriously? This and the WotC products thread are waaay more useful than the ancient core rulebook errata thread.

    Rituals, Especially Dark Sun Rituals

Is there a good source for new rituals? A third-party perhaps? How about good rituals specific to Dark Sun? The campaign guide only includes two (LAME!) but it seems that such a world should have lots of cool, unique rituals. Also, anyone have any good experiences or stories to share about...

    Red Box: Some Constructive Criticism

Oh, that's right. I forgot that experienced hobbyists with decades spent enjoying their hobby never: introduce their hobby to people who have never enjoyed it before, reintroduce their hobby to people who enjoyed it in the past but stopped participating for whatever reason, or demonstrate...

    Power Damage per Level?

I'd start with the Damage by Level tables (with Rules Updates!) on page 42 of the DMG (repeated on p185 in the "Creating Monsters" section). My personal rule of thumb is that a vanilla power that deals damage to a single target with no other effects should deal expected damage such that it...

    Red Box: Some Constructive Criticism

Corporate apologists boggle my mind. I'm not going to eat a feces sandwich just because it vaguely reminds me of a delicious sandwich I ate 20 years ago.

    Red Box: Some Constructive Criticism

I had an outline of a well-considered post typed up and started expanding and editing it. Then I realized it's time to eat and then exercise. So I deleted that post. But let me say, without clarify or defending my opinions: This new Starter Set is a disappointment, a missed opportunity...

    Unboxing the DM's Kit

At risk of hijacking the thread: This epitomizes everything that I find wrong about wish lists. Call me old school and call me guilty of promoting "the right way to play D&D", but if a player is asking for a magic item by name: 1) He's metagaming, unless his character has been told in game as...

    Unboxing the DM's Kit

I thought prior offerings, on average, were on the expensive side too. I do think the DMG is probably appropriately priced considering its excellent content and the quality of its presentation. Maybe the adventure is worth the loss in page size and paper, binding, and cover quality. Maybe not...

RPGA Reward Tomb of Horrors - Looking to Trade

I have a brand new Demonomicon I'll trade for Hommlet.

    Unboxing the DM's Kit

The tokens are thin and monster specific, the DM screen is thin, the DM Book is softcover and digest sized. I'm also not a fan of poster maps (too specific and 5' chairs and 15' tables, etc., are ridiculous) and prefer dungeon tiles. But that's a matter of taste. You still can't play the game...

Let's Talk About WotC DM Supplements.

Until I started coordinating and running a table for Encounters at my FLGS, I was running successful games with just the three core books plus DMGII, MMII and now MMIII, and AVI. I consider my games successful when everyone has fun and an interesting story is told. For a new book to be worth...

Why is the original red box so special

Not flamebait, I'm honestly curious. I was a wee tot when the original Red Box released in '83. What was it about the product and the time it was released that made it worth recreating almost 30 years later? I have a copy in my game library, but it's hard to figure out what is so special...

D&D 4E Old School 4E Character Sheet (Goldenrod) - Now with Power Cards.

I won't hijack this thread or steal thunder from these nice sheets. I'll post my own thread later today.

D&D 4E Old School 4E Character Sheet (Goldenrod) - Now with Power Cards.

The character builder sheets are absolutely terrible. Attrocious and almost unusable. Just plain ugly. Not to say character builder is to blame, "official" character sheets have been terrible for years. I've been using a custom Word template since 3.x that I have evolved for 4E (it's very much...

    Essentials DM Screen

Any info on this? I love the original 4E DM screen: sturdy as hell, conveniently half-height, and a freakin' awesome mural that makes me look like an amazing DM who should be receiving checks from Hasbro just for standing behind it. What? The inside of the screen has been errated to hell and...
