Check Out Modiphius' Star Trek Miniatures!

The dice are sweet, though confusing me a little: they have a classic, TOS-inspired design aesthetic but the colors are labeled with the divisions they correspond to in TNG and on. (Gold is command in TOS, Red is Operations.) Don't mind me. I'm just a nitpicky Trek fan. ;)

Check Out Modiphius' Star Trek Miniatures!

That would require time, money, a place to paint, and no cats. I only have one of those things: time.

Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, John Rogers, and Ryan Macklin Play FATE CORE!

GM railroading? With a petty GM or a GM that has a set story in mind, sure. 'Meaningless success track' is a definitely a matter of perception; in Fate there's success and then there's success with style, where you have so many shifts of success beyond the target number. Those shifts can allow...

Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, John Rogers, and Ryan Macklin Play FATE CORE!

It certainly does require trust and willingness to make your character vulnerable. You also have to come up with aspects that you can use but that can also be used against you. I'm generally good with that as a player. As a GM, I don't allow my players to create the character on their own. I...

Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, John Rogers, and Ryan Macklin Play FATE CORE!

Funny thing is... With my group, one of the rules of the group is that everyone has to have a game to run. So, everyone is a GM. We meet every Sunday and vote in two people to GM for the day (sometimes we have a wildcard in the form of a board game or something), that way each GM for the day...

Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, John Rogers, and Ryan Macklin Play FATE CORE!

True enough. What bugs me is that my group LIKES story. They just don't embrace the mechanics of Fate as much as they could. I've played it twice (someone else in the group ran it) and I've run Dresden Files (original, not Accelerated). Running it is how I realized they don't embrace the...

Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, John Rogers, and Ryan Macklin Play FATE CORE!

I've been big on Fate Core for quite a while (I ended up backing the Kickstarter when I was looking for more material for a Dresden Files game I was going to run). The only bad thing I can say about this episode is that I'm not lucky enough to play with an RPG group that embraces storytelling as...

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Starter Spells; Plus UA Returning To Monthly & Sage Advice Returning

Having read everything Shadow of the Demon Lord related, these spells all have a very similar feel to them. It might be the way they're worded, given that Schwalb wrote this particular UA. That's not a bad thing, though. In fact, my group currently has a 5E game (run by someone else) and a Demon...

what's the new innovative RPG that's going to change everything?

I was into Fate Core pretty hard for a while; at the point I'd (re)discovered it, I was just craving a way to do actual storytelling whenever I had to run for my group. To say that Fate Core is flexible is an understatement. About the only down side is that when you want a really gritty fight...

Rodney Thompson's DUSK CITY OUTLAWS Kickstarter Is Now Live!

Going by the info here, DCO has the group made up of people from different gangs, the way player characters in L5R are a group of characters from different clans. Blades has the player characters forming their own gang and forming alliances with other gangs. And DCO might actually come out. Not...

WotC's 2017 Convention Schedule Includes New Hascon, No GenCon

More like the only shark in the pond. That sounds harsh, but what I mean is that they - as well as every other game company is looking for customers. With Paizo being such a powerhouse now (and a big shark of their own), WotC is swimming to smaller ponds. Do I like it? Hell no. I'm with those...

[UPDATED] 5th Ed D&D Core Design Team member, Rodney Thompson, launches Scratchpad Publishing!

I backed the Kickstarter for Blades, but haven't actually had a chance to play. But on the surface (in other words the basic description) it does look a lot like Blades. As for Blades itself, it's currently available on drivethrurpg, and has been picked up by Evil Hat so hopefully we'll see a...

    When Bots Create Fantasy Maps...

I personally don't see it. Though I do see it when I look at a map of our world, so what do I know?

Radecki on Trial: The Psychiatrist who Attacked D&D

Wertham was a HUGE detriment to the development of comic book as an acceptable art form in the U.S. I think there's a direct connection between him and the rise to dominance of superheroes in the genre here in the U.S. Jack Thompson was the face of the anti video game/violence caused by video...

News Digest: Critical Role and Tabletop Going Premium Access? Pathfinder New Releases and Player Inc

Well, this some serious bulls**t. Tabletop being exclusive until 'sometime' in 2017? I can understand Wil Wheaton not being happy. I hope this doesn't mean Titansgrave will be treated the same; I desperately want to see more of that show. Also... I'm so sick of 'Talk' show follow ups...

Adopt Your Secret Identity With Pathfinder's ULTIMATE INTRIGUE

I don't think so; I just think this was merely a cool idea they just expanded on too much. 258 pages for this is a bit much, and part of it (the magic items) could have easily been cut or put into the back pages of an AP. Speaking of APs, this would have worked a lot better if it tied into one...

RPGs On Video: Tabletop Does Fate & Acq. Inc Series Coming From WotC & Penny Arcade

Well, part of the rules for Fate Core involves the group (not just the GM) coming up with the setting - as well as their characters - together and going from there, so I'm kind of hoping they go that route. Without spending a bunch of time on it in the video itself, of course. Last time my...

PATHFINDER Features On One-Off Special Episode of CRITICAL ROLE

It really was worth watching, even at three and a half hours. I've been tempted to watch the whole thing again .

RPGs On Video: Tabletop Does Fate & Acq. Inc Series Coming From WotC & Penny Arcade

Definitely looking forward to both (all three, counting Titansgrave), especially the Fate Core Tabletop episode. I'm hoping that it get the multiple episode treatment that the Dragon Age RPG got. I've been a huge fan since the Kickstarter campaign for Fate.
