    Why did you start DMing?

    1. Nobody else would. 2. I wanted to run a game in my setting, not somebody else's. It was a matter of pride. Long story short, my first campaign sputtered after about five sessions, and we found somebody else to DM a campaign, and I was just a player for about a year after that.

Need Websites or plans on how to make real armor

What is the SCA? Idealistic? A modern recreation of the medieval melee; a contest of martial prowess, where speed, strength, and skill win the day. Cynical? It's where large, sweaty men in armor made out pickle-barrels hit each other with sticks, based on an ultimately unrealistic set of rules...

World's smallest sovereign power is an order of knights founded 1,000 years ago

With the Russel story, it was actually a woman he was speaking to, and it was "Turtles all the way down," as opposed to elephants.

How often does the grapple mechanic come up in your game?

Generally, I have grapples fairly often IMC. It's almost always the NPC grappling the PC. I've gotten quite good with the grapple rules (as well as I care to memorize them, at least), and they don't really slow things down too much any more.

    Campaign Map - Feedback Requested

Very nice. I only have one comment; that the Micklespine Mountains ought to have a forest on their western foothills. Oh, and the Moldava Mountains ought to have a bit of forest on either side, but not a lot. Otherwise, very nice. I like the regional names especially; it's nice to see germanic...

    Star Wars - Jedi Heroes

My character started out as a (fairly) well-rounded human guardian who focused mostly on Move Object, Enhance Ability, Battlemind, and Affect Mind. Over time, I built him up with more combat abilities (lots of Saber/Knight/etc. Defense feats). At the high end, when the campaign was really...

Cold wrought iron, what is it?

One point that should be made is that cast iron has less iron in it by volume than steel does... You see... (Almost) Pure Iron: very soft, called Wrought Iron Mostly Iron, a little Carbon: harder and springier; called Steel Iron mixed with >10% Cabon: very brittle; called Cast Iron

    Laws of Nature

Indoor plumbing? Oh, my goodness no. What my dungeons and castles have are, well, holes with seats that lead to either the moat or a natural cavern being used as a garbage pit. As for the washrooms, they tend to be like Roman baths, if a bit smaller and not as finely crafted.

    Laws of Nature

What ever you do, don't make the adventure focus on finding a magical toilet! But, in all seriousness, I haven't had any trouble with those, uh, concerns; eating is just something that happens between bits of action, and, well, relieving one's self has only come up in one instance; a rogue with...

    The party of five

And now for a simsons reference; "I don't have anything against orcs! The tattoo is in German; it means 'The orcs, the.'" [/derail] I think I should mention that the first group I played in for the long term had the following odd characters... Half-Giant Barbarian (smashed things with an...

    The party of five

I'm gonna say... Human fighter who uses a greatsword and heavy armor; the party's meat-shield and mook-squisher. Halfling rogue with high dex, int, and wisdom; acts as the party's eyes and ears, and gets in as many stabs as possible by dual-wielding and flanking enemies with Mr. Human Fighter...

Is D&D 3.5 your first role playing game

I've gotta say I'm right with Dalamar; BG was a 'gateway game,' in a manner of speaking. It took me a while (until 2002) to actually get a game going, though. You see, I didn't know any other PnP gamers, so I had the difficult task of converting my CRPG-playing friends, and then GMing for them.

DMs: How Much of Your Prep Work Never Gets Used??

In the past, I've used as much as maybe 95%, and as little as 50%, but I think I average maybe 80%, because the PCs will inevitably only do one or two of the side-quests that I've written up the notes for three or four of. However, I often re-tool the stuff I don't use for a later date.

    History's most underrated inventions.

I'd like to nominate metal. Yeah, metal. Sure, it's not exactly underrated, but most people take it for granted, assuming that 'they' just find lumps of it in the ground and make it into I-beams and engine blocks... I've got a lot of respect for the guy who noticed that weird green stuff...

    Describe your boring side

Hi, I'm Felix, and I once figured out how to count in base-12 on one hand. Hi, I'm Felix, and I'm a proponent of the metric system. Hi, I'm Felix, and I saw a lunar eclipse once.

Green Ronin - True 20 System Review?

I haven't played it played it, but I've been GMing a campaign with it for about 3 months now. The theme and tone of the setting are somewhere between Lord of the Rings and George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, but with a dash more magic. Long story short, fights are short and bloody, there...

    Dwarves + axes... why?

In my setting, the typical dwarven infantry-'man' uses a large, rectangular shield and a short stabbing sword; the nobility tend to favor axes and other polearms as a mark of prestige, however, much like human nobility tend to favor cutting swords while most soldiers use spears (footmen) or...

DMs: How do you prepare for a session?

I usually start out by coming up with a concept for the session/adventure, like "there's an abbey with evil monks who kill travellers with dark magic," and then come up with a set of notes for things like enemy stats, personalities for various NPCs, things various NPCs might be expected to know...

Feast for Crows - I have it

If there are bunnies, they'll be Bunny-Wights, raised by the Others after being frightened to death... Well, ok, they might also be Vorpal Rabbits, but the Holy Hand Grenade is woefully unpresent, so such an encounter could be very dire for those involved...hmmm... You know what? I think I've...
