    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

If this is your strategy, this will hold true using both point buy and randomized systems. The only difference between the two is that in a randomized system you might end up with less or more to work with than the fighter standing next to you. I'm with Hong on this one. I prefer to have...

New screenshots of character visualizer, virtual tabletop

I think we all agree the graphics are poor; while this is not a deal breaker for me, I would prefer something that looks polished. That being said, the biggest selling point for me is how well the rule set is automatically integrated into electronic tools that will enhance/quicken my gaming...

D&D 5E (2014) What do YOU Want to See Next?

Unfortunately, I believe WoTC has stated that the social encounter system will only be revealed on launch. This is likely to be the most contentious system in 4th edition, which might be an underlying reason for their decision.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Magical rings, perhaps. But it would seem a bit strange if people didn't wear non-magical rings, at all levels.

New screenshots of character visualizer, virtual tabletop

No kidding. I'm fairly enthusiastic about 4th, but these screens look like they were made by the same designer as the DDO game; the interface and models look like they're from a PC game made 10 years ago. Hopefully they tighten this up a little before launch.

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Your strength modifier is still probably added to the damage of a standard attack action (if it still exists). However there will be little reason to use a non-power standard attack if you have a superior 'at will' martial power. You should only read the power as explicitly stated. In this case...

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Definitions of conjecture on the Web: * speculation: a hypothesis that has been formed by speculating or conjecturing (usually with little hard evidence); "speculations about the outcome ... * guess: a message expressing an opinion based on incomplete evidence * reasoning that involves the...

    WotC_Shoe on leaderless parties

From a purely mechanical standpoint, I agree, as it's rarely economical to waste a standard action mid-combat to drink a potion, unless it is particularly beneficial effect (e.g., a potion of heal). Hopefully in 4th the impact of each individual action is lessened, so that it's possible to have...

    Dungeons of Dread Preview 4

I think that these are the miniature cards, but these two particular monsters are from the new 4th edition MM. There are probably a lot of similarities between the stat blocks, but most likely are going to be different.

    Dragon Editorial: Fearless

The number of monsters in 3.5 that have save vs. lose effects increases as you go up the CR tree.

I haven't attended Dragon since I was in school.... which was long while ago. I guess it's still going on?

    Worlds and Monsters Art Gallery

Is this the troll? It's a bit of departure from the 2nd edition green monster, but I like it.

Breaking News: Kuo-Toa Not Froggy Anymore

True, but in D&D, the frog-like humanoid crown has to go to bullywugs. From the Wikipedia entry: "In the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, bullywugs are a violent race of frog-like humanoids." Looks like a frog on steroids, but a frog nonetheless. :D

    D&D 4E ConQuest Sac- 4e Demo!!!

Hmmmm, the only reason I'd attend is to see the 4th Edition stuff. However, I trust Dave C over Carl, as Dave has a shinier badge.

Breaking News: Kuo-Toa Not Froggy Anymore

Yeah, frogginess lands squarely in the realm of the bullywug. I think some people might be remembering these guys from the D&D cartoon, from so long ago...

Keep on Shadowfell pre gen PC's

From what has been revealed so far, it seems like it will be fairly trivial to scale encounters for more than 4 PCs, as there is an implied level to level ratio between PCs and monsters. For example, if the encounter is scaled for 4 level 2 PCs, then it might have an elite level 2 Orc and 2...

Paladins; Will they finally get to shine in this edition?

I'm personally not a big fan of classes that are just 'better' because of more stringent requirements. The advantage of having better stats is already a bonus, and this can lead to one character simply outshining another. I feel the paladin should still keep spellcasting. I happen to like the...
