    Trailblazer Teasers (collected)

Why is weapon kata limited to one? Doesn't seem like a power thing.

Skill points can be precious, but nearly as precious as feats. If I put one skill point from Stealth into Basketweaving, I get -1 on a skill i might use a couple of times per adventure, but if I give up a feat to take the Basketweaving skill at +5, I not only overload my Basketweaving, but I...

DMs not playing by the rules (Forked Thread: What are the no-goes for you?)

Simple example: The party is attacking their nemesis, and they have enlisted the help of an NPC ally. A battle ensues, the nemesis gets low on hit points, an NPC swings and hits, and rolls enough to kill. The next few actions are all by PCs. The DM cheats by giving the nemesis some extra hit...

Forked Thread: Why the beer hate? (Forked Thread: What are the no-goes...)

In the US. Having a beer at a game is the same as having a Coke.

DMs not playing by the rules (Forked Thread: What are the no-goes for you?)

IMO, the best DMs are those that cheat and lie.

It might be a matter of taste, but I like the skill point system. I played in a Star Wars game and I wanted to be better at swimming after a long period on a watery world. My only choice was to spend a precious feat on gaining the skill or on skill focus. Feats are part of your combat power...

    Attack w/ spear using Dex

I looked at rogue, and the powers seem to all require light blades. I only the initial books. What book is the monk in?

    Attack w/ spear using Dex

I'm looking to make an Eladrin spear wielder. Is there any option to attack with a spear using Dex? Thanks.

    Two ettiquete questions

Recently, I've come across two rather annoying things on ENWorld. A search of the FAQ doesn't show them as no-nos, but I thought I'd check. The first is the USE OF SHOUTING or bold text to make it seem like I'm talking down to you. I find this rather rude. The second is the "This discussion...

"4E, as an anti-4E guy" (Session Two)

No, it doesn't seem realistic, and that's why there is specifically a rule for this in 3.0 and 3.5, and I would suppose anyone using 1-2-1-2 would carry that rule over to 4e.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

Interesting. Do you have a reference for this requirement?

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

As I said before, the wisdom-drain allip isn't appropriate as a wandering monster, same as the original rust monster. It needs a note "CR 3(see sidebar)". And my clerics have always run magic weapon because of shadows such, and +1 to hit and +1 damage isn't the worst effect. True, it might be...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

Returning to the druid, does anyone know if they changed the Natural Spell feat, or is it still a must have?

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

Yes it does. You missed the fact that I said I don't even specifically care about the allip, just about a few extraordinarly dangerous creature existing somewhere in the rules, somewhere. I don't hate the new allip, more the general direction of the changes that the allip represents. But I...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

I totally agree with you. If you charge in and attack and heal afterwards, the wisdom-damage allip is a better than the wisdom-drain allip. If you drop it in as a random encounter, the wisdom-damage allip is better. But does every creature in the game have to support this play style? Can't...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

I did explain it: As long as every problem in the game is solvable by charging in, attacking, and then healing afterward, that is what players will do. Effects such as permanent level drain, wisdom drain, and equipment damage that come from well known sources such as wights, allips, and rust...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder Sneak Peeks (Old thread)

But there is a fundamental difference between a wis-drain and wis-damage creature at 3rd level: How you approach combat with it. True if the DM just slaps it down as a random encounter, you are hosed with the wis-drain version. But if it is the wis-drain version is known ahead of time the...

"4E, as an anti-4E guy" (Session Two)

Even with 3.x, I've wanted to pitch the grid entirely. 1-1-1-1 movement just makes me want to pitch it even more. And it's not just the movement, it's the everything must be in a square stuff. And hexes don't help with that. So the question is are there any erasable playmats with no lines at...

"4E, as an anti-4E guy" (Session Two)

[/LIST] If you compare the values directly instead of rounding off first, 3E comes out even further ahead. For example, in your 6x+4y case, you list it as a tie, but 8 is a much better approximation of 7.21 than 6 is.

    Return of the Edition War

I meant a combined Pro-4E and Anti-3E outlook. There are those that are pro-4E that go into 3E threads and post how awesome 4E is and thus they aren't negative, but they aren't creating goodwill. Or those that drop a note that they left 3E long behind and are very happy that they did so. I...
