    Player metagaming

I definitely don't mind "metagaming" in terms of combat tactics, AoO, etc. D&D combat is not at all "simulationist". It is very abstract, almost a game within a game. Now some people, I know, have a real problem with that, and that's fine. But my group has a lot of fun figuring out where the...

The (prestige) class that HASN'T been crafted yet ...

Well, I tried and tried to come up with a serious answer to this question. But anything I think of I'm certain someone has done. As far as a Jack-of-All-Trades, just let them continue to add x number of skills as class skills. Well, let's see. How about someone that specializes in non-lethal...

Slashdot reviews 30 years of Adventure

Man, with that poor an editing job, you'd think it was a non WOTC d20 product... ;)

Women Gamers vs. PCs/DMs Significant Others

My wife was willing to try, but at first was VERY nervous, not even wanting to play in more than one campaign at a time because she did not want to be "confused". That was a little over a year ago. She's still not completely confident, but loves the social aspect of the game(s). She has even...

    Is this you(r GM)?

I tend to buy whatever books strike my fancy (yes, it is nice; thanks for asking ;) ). My players are usually very happy about it, because they get the opportunity for new PrCs, Feats, Skills, Spells, etc. and new challenges that they don't have memorized. I don't, however, do things like...

How many female gamers in your group?

You'll find the frequency of that question corresponds to the age of the gamer ;) For us old timers; it used to be that female gamers were very, very rare. I'm glad to see that has improved at least a bit, probably due to the Vampire phenomenom in the 90's.

How many female gamers in your group?

My group definitely breaks the stereotype of most gaming groups. I have 1 male and 4 female players. I was just wondering what the breakdown was for most groups.

    Am I a cruel DM?

Just my two coppers: I think you have some whiny players. It sounds to me like something that could happen in the scenario, therefore, the characters have to deal with it. It's all about challenges after all. As long as it makes sense in the story, there is really no such thing as an "unfair"...

    Your first character

Keep on the Borderlands. Cleric. First action: fell in the pit in one of the openings. 10 or so years later - playing Keep on the Borderlands with same people as a nostalgia thing. Fell in the same pit... Cool stuff ;)

    Phat Weekend of Gaming

Saturday, noon 'til 5:30. 7th level characters being led through the Plane of Shadow by a Shadow Ranger who "shifts" through the shadow plane similiar to the Amber novels. Demi-goddess of shadow is steering them into combats. First battle: 6 shadow Worgs, 2 evil shadow Treants (without animate...

No combat in a whole session

Very rare if at all. My group and I like combat. I'm sure I could do it if I concentrated on it, but I don't think it is that important to my group to avoid combat.

    Stupid Player Syndrome

Sometimes my players won't ask NPCs questions. For example: They met a former adventurer/now "good" vampire who, 500 years ago, helped defeat the BBEG who is now back for more. She told them this. Not one of them asked, "Gee, how did you defeat him then?" nor any other questions... I still...

    Kickin' it Old-School - C&C Rocks

After reading the boxed set in depth over the week-end, I must say I am backing off my original opinion. There seems to be just a bit too much missing. Perhaps that is why the PHB will be coming out. You could GM the boxed set, but you'd have to do quite a bit of filling in the details, which I...

Breaking the stereotype of the chaste paladin

You have lots of time on your hands, eh? Any children the Paladin might father would be raised without a father figure. Can't slay evil and come home every night at 5:00 PM. But hey, let the paladin get his sword polished as much as the next guy. I seriously doubt any of the "real" knights...

    Ultima Underworld rune magic system?

Thanks! I'm definitely going to do something like this, but I might have to start from scratch if I'm going to try to market it... But, I might just stay lazy and use it for my own purposes. I'm already tossing some ideas around.

    Kickin' it Old-School - C&C Rocks

I apologize if there has already been a thread for this game, but I got my boxed set of Castles & Crusades from Troll Lord games. Man, it is cool, if you wanna go old-school. It takes the cool parts from OD&D (4 classes, short spell and monster lists) and combines them with the simpler AC...

    diaglo's OD&D Campaign

I hate to burst your bubble, but my 3.5 players don't study rules either. That's MY job. And has been from OD&D on. The player's play; the DM learns and implements the rules. So save your tears for something really sad like viewing the past through nostalgia-colored glasses. ;)
