Tell me about a cool room in your dungeon...

Actually that is tremendously cool! It's something I can run with (fire elementals, etc.) Nice! Consider it sniped! ;)

"I don't think we are playing the same game"

My wife and I tried joining two groups before forming our own. One allowed (and encouraged) the party to split up constantly. Each character had a mission, and no one hardly cooperated to help each other. We were split up constantly into two or more groups. We would spend long stretches...

    Planar books

Countless Doorways is a cool book, but as I was reading it, I found that I wasn't interested in using any of the planes as they appeared. For example, I loved the idea of a plane where spiders/arenea (sp?) are the dominant species, but then they threw Formians in there which I wouldn't use...

The feel of playing the game -- DM POV vs. Player POV

When I play, I sometimes wish I had never DM'd in my life. I really have to bite my tongue sometimes (I have DM'd a LOT more than I've played). When I DM, I have to bite my tongue again, when players don't see something I think is "obvious"...

I'm DMing for a bunch of Tourists!

Man, that is a DM's dream come true ;) Of course, there's the odd ruin or two they come across. You could have a storm that drives them into the haunted castle, the village dealing with a werewolf or the whole place has become possessed. They could escort someone from one place to another if...

    Dungeons essay on evil

I've always considered alignment in that respect to be about degrees. Is the Chaotic Evil of an Orc the same as the Chaotic Evil of a Demon? If you want to make alignment black and white, there would be no such thing as a group of CE creatures. They'd kill each other until there was only one left.

Then you might want to check again. We made heavy use of guerrila warfare and hid behind the trees. Of course, I'm getting this from cobwebs too, but I'm pretty certain of it.

    Dungeons essay on evil

Actually during the American Revolutionary War, the British (a well-oiled machine) found out what it was like to battle hoards (the colonists). Just an example. :D

    Is enlightened self-interest Good?

I don't want to draw this out (the end seems a fixed point), but I must argue that "that guy" didn't do what he did because he was feeling naughty. He did it because he believed (I think) in his heart of hearts, that the world would be a better place once: 1. He was in charge 2. Selective...

    Is enlightened self-interest Good?

Bet those poor dead gnomes don't think so  Whatever you think, but ask most people what it means, it usually means unselfish to the extreme, to the extent that you get NOTHING out of it. But I'm glad you and Mother Teresa are around; you certainly make the world a better place. Unless...

    Is enlightened self-interest Good?

Let's check this one more time. Ok, so we are still talking about genocide against Gnomes. Let's continue. So, if someone, oh I don't know, but someone, decided that all the members of a religion were evil (cough-jews-cough), and that ridding the world of them would make it a better place...

Sounds almost like you're doing it against your will, which makes it hard to be selflessly motivated, eh? ;)

Yup  Maybe not exactly ethnicities per se, but something to think about. Just don't go making humanoid kangaroos (Tank Girl) :heh:

    Non-earth human ethnicities

One cool thing you could do is to have genetic engineering (either magical or technological, depending on the setting) be a factor. Like in the TV show Dark Angel - DNA from cats makes her have a very high dexterity (and makes her go into heat...), etc. Some of these crosses could become...

    Is enlightened self-interest Good?

I'm afraid I have to come down on the side of "There's no such thing as altruistism." Even if all you get out of it is a "good feeling", then you benefitted from it. About the only act I can even begin to feel is altruistic is giving your life - in a split second decision - to save someone...
