Down with the negativity! Tell me what you like about 3E.

But we weren't TALKING about other game systems, we were talking about D&D. There truly is nothing new under the sun, but we were asked what we liked about 3E. You derided people who pointed out NO THAC0 as something they liked, and rather snidely to boot. I responded.

Down with the negativity! Tell me what you like about 3E.

People who spend their time posting on Role-Playing Game messageboards probably need to get out more too, but to each his own  Before - DM: What did you roll? Player: 19 DM: What's your THAC0? Player: 12 DM: Uh, ok. 19-12=7, you hit -7 or better... er, ok, you hit. (And -10 was...

    Pet Peeves....

Simple - it's not the DM's job to make sure players are using all their abilities. You don't tell them what spell to cast or what enemy to attack, do you? No. Nor should a DM be in charge of any of the character's abilities. My players know this, and pay attention to the game so they know when...

    Dragon 326

As soon as I get it at least on the same *day* my FLGS gets their pile, I'll discuss the creative content. As it is, I'm too pissed off that I'm subscribing to something only to save a few bucks. Here's how you fix it: Send out the subscriber copies a week *before* shipping it to store...

    all-published module campaign

For a bit higher level (at least 5th) dungeon crawl, it's hard to do better than Rappan Athuk from Necromancer games. Definitely has that 1st Edition feel they talk about :]

    Items.....

Something you might want to consider doing it letting them buy what they want, but make them write a small story about how their character got the item, and how they feel about having such power. This could provide some interesting hooks, like if someone said they took that +5 sword from a Demon...

Lost City of Barakus, from Necromancer Games. Great jumping off point.

Tell me about a cool room in your dungeon...

Sorry, I thought the wink would have let you know I was kidding! Cool idea, though, so thanks!

Tell me about a cool room in your dungeon...

My Responses - please read Cool, but I think something needs to happen in this room... ;) By the way, if I don't respond to someone, it's not that I don't like your idea, it's that I don't have anything to add. Thanks for all the responses so far!

Cool. Love the Giant's Bedroom - simple idea but could spawn all sorts of cool situations...

Tell me about a cool room in your dungeon...

Cool. I had a similar idea: Dead-end corridor that lures the characters into it. A kobold (or something else) steps in behind the PCs with an Iron Flask. That's when they release the Gelatinous Cube. :]

Down with the negativity! Tell me what you like about 3E.

Let me be the first one to bet that this thread gets taken over by the 3E whiner's club in no time flat ;) NO THAC0! Woo-hoo! What you roll is what you hit (WYRIWYH!) Miniatures rules built into combat (combine this with pre-painted mini's and I get all moist) 3rd party products! (I mean...

Tell me about a cool room in your dungeon...

Sharing Ok, maybe more people will share if I do :-) === The stone archway leading into this high-ceilinged room bears ornate swirled carvings. The capstone of the arch is a carved in the shape of eight arrows radiating from a central point - the symbol of Chaos. In the center of the room is a...

    Pet Peeves....

Point I was making (too much sarcasm kept it hidden, I fear) was that you could come up with any kind of outrageous crap you wanted to, like a 150th level farmer with a pet Tarrsque and Asmodeus hooked up to his plow. But why bother?

Tell me about a cool room in your dungeon...

Ok. I'm putting together an old-fashioned doesn't-have-to-make-any-sense dungeon, and am looking for cool ideas for rooms to snag ;) You don't have to give monster stats, or monsters at all, it's up to you. Just describe the room, and tell me what makes it "cool". :)

    Pet Peeves....

So do I, for Bipolar disorder! So while I might joke about it, it is only joking in the sense that most people joke about it. You should know from experience that anyone who does not suffer from a disorder has not a single clue what it's like. So I was not really joking about *the real thing* ;)
