    Why don't you post reviews?

I voted "Other". I usually only buy books for certain specific elements to add to my campaign. I might not get around to reading the entire book for months after release, if ever. I don't want to do a book a disservice by only reviewing the portion(s) that I used.

Longinius and the spear of destiny

The concept of the "Wandering Jew" is also found in the legend of La Befana , the Christmastime "gift-giver" in Italy. Legends states that the 3 Kings stopped at La Befana's house on their way to Bethlehem. After dining with her, they invited her to follow them while they followed the star to...

Do old D&D basic, expert, companion and master modules work with D&D 3.x?

I ran my group through B6: Veiled Society as the lead-off to my new campaign. Changing the NPCs wasn't too bad. Changing the monsters was a bit more work, and I ended up winging a lot "on the fly" to adjust HP and what-not until I got a feel for it. One of the things that the old-style...

    Mongoose Collector's Series

*bump* I thought I'd bump this up since I posted it late Friday night so I think a lot of people weren't around to read it.

    What's it like to DM?

I got to thinking about this while on the drive home on Friday night after Crothian said he was going to start this thread. I'm sure it's been discussed before, but do most of you as DMs feel like you're secretly frustrated (or not so frustrated) writers? You're spending all this time to...

    Constructs!!!

Hey, thanks! That's a nice complement. I always try to help out new players - we can always use more fans of the game. With that, I have got to go home for dinner. My wife is not super happy that I'm still at work.

    Constructs!!!

Wow - that's a loaded question. Probably worthy of another thread here on EN World. If you post another thread with that in the subject line, I'm sure you will get a lot of responses - probably more than you can handle! I love being a DM. I like the "story" aspect. I really enjoy doing...

    Constructs!!!

You can find it here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/welcome You'll want to look for the SRD, which stands for "System Reference Document". This is basically all of the "open" (that is, "free", for lack of a better, more technical term) content from the Player's Handbook, Monster...

    Constructs!!!

Just wait. . . if you really get into playing, it's literally like entering a whole new world. Here are the basics of Construct Creation: 1) You need a feat called, cleverly enough, "Craft Construct". Its pre-requisites are Craft Magic Arms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Item. Both of those...

    Constructs!!!

Before people jump all over you, you might not know that most people frown on illegally obtaining copies of books through file-sharing servers and the like. I'm not implying that you meant to do that, but just in case... Since you're new to the game, I'm not sure how much you know about...

    Constructs!!!

That's the right place. However, since I read your other thread where you mentioned that you're a new player, you should check with your DM first as to whether or not he/she minds if you look through the Monster Manual. Some DM's don't like it when they're players do that, because it's too...

    Mongoose Collector's Series

Yeah, I agree, Crothian. I have tons of both kinds of products (probably too many, but that's another topic...). I was just really curious about this Kobold book in particular. I know that there are quite a few people who "collected" the entire Collector's Series just because they were all...

    Mongoose Collector's Series

Interesting. I suspect that you're in the minority with that opinion. I would expect that a lot of people who collect the print versions of the Collector's Series might not see this book as a continuation of that series. And, there also seems to be a whole group of people who just don't like...

    troubles.....

Okay - one last suggestion. Ask them to come over for a "character workshop" party or something. Have some snacks and try to have each player find one or two "hooks" in their backstory that they can focus on during the role-playing aspects of the game. Similar to the ideas you got from Djeta...

    troubles.....

Sound like you're a potential DM in the making! Exactly! Hopefully everyone in your group is having fun? It sounds like maybe your DM isn't? If not, let's hope you've been able to get some ideas to overcome that.

    troubles.....

That's plenty to work with! Your DM should have no problem weaving elements of your backstory into the group's adventures. Not to tell you how to roleplay your character, but based on what you wrote, an easy little hook you could use is to have a problem with "authority figures", based on...

    troubles.....

Well, this seems like a difficult situation. Is it that your fellow players don't know how to stop the video-game mentality, or that they don't want to stop? It sounds to me like the latter. If that is the case, then it seems like their playing style doesn't really mesh with that of your DM...

    Mongoose Collector's Series

Anybody going to get e-Quintessential kobold, or have gotten it already? http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=2710 For those of you who are collectors of the Quintessential series, do you plan to add this to your collection? Or do you consider it "separate" because it's a PDF...

    troubles.....

I think Djeta's right - have the group talk with the DM outside of the game about everyone's goals and objectives for playing. Try to meet halfway. All of the backstory suggestions are great. My group consists of mostly newbie roleplayers. We've been playing for 3 years now, and they've...

Why we love D&D but hate d20

I bet that there's also a conspiracy to market it in Dragon magazine.
