    Explain INT and Reflex, Please

Maybe it's character dependant. I remember a design article/blog/post/musings mentioning that since all Wizards had mage armor for +4 AC, they were thinking of just giving all wizards +4 AC without it taking up a spell slot. It would be minor arcane wardings that were always active. Oene could...

That's it; I am done buying minis'!

Just curious, how many cases did you get? $550 looks like retail for 4 cases in the US. That means 24 boosters. There are 6 huge rares, with a '1 per 3 boosters' frequency. So, in 4 cases, one can expect 8 huge rares. The odds of getting one of each plus two duplicates are small, however...

First Adventure: Kobold Hall vs Keep on the Shadowfell

Use the KotS pregens for a one-off intro using Kobold Hall, just to teach them the ropes and in a self-contained scenario. Then let them make their own characters and run KotS.

KotS: exploring by room or by area? **spoilers**

ryryguy... LOS to those creatures is blocked by the bushes that are on the half of the map that's not printed in the book. Lighting: sunrods provide bright light in a 20 square radius, and each character has two. Dim light provides concealment (-2) to creatures without low light vision.

KotS: exploring by room or by area? **spoilers**

I've been contemplating the same thing. The simulationist in me wants to only show what the PCs can see... but 4E is teaching me that 'playing the game' is MUCH more important than accurate simulation. I'd rather plop down a lot of map and then have non-stop action versus killing the pace...

    Containing Strike? (Fighter Exploit?)

Well, look at that. So, either: a) Containing Strike started out as a fighter at-will but then got absorbed into the Combat Challenge Feature (but they missed updating the Swordmaster's Steel Grace), or b) Containing Strike for a fighter is different than for a Death Knight and for some reason...

Are Line & Cone effects gone, if so, WHY?!

IMHO... I think that the new bursts and blasts (and absence of lines) are an amazing evolution in game design. I love everything about 4E, but I must say that--being a minis junkie--this is one of my favorite parts.

    Containing Strike? (Fighter Exploit?)

Thanks, excepti0n! It looks like the vanilla flavor of that exploit is 'make a melee basic attack as an immediate interrupt against the target if the target shifts on its next turn.' Now I need to see if that effect is part of a proper fighter exploit...

    Containing Strike? (Fighter Exploit?)

The Swordmaster path feature called 'Steel Grace' lets the character use Containing Strike or Reaping Strike (fighter at-will) instead of a basic melee attack when he charges. I can't find Containing Strike. Anyone know where it is? I thought maybe it was a power for a different class (a neat...

    What they don't know...

Thanks! OK, I don't feel guilty anymore. I didn't coerce or trick them into selling me a book against their will. Besides, WotC actually profits from this. I only intended to get one copy of each book, but now I've bought a PHB and I'm still buying the full gift set. Right then... I'm off to...

    What they don't know...

Great, now I feel guilty. Sure, I know the official release is in 6 days and I hoped my encounter would play out like it did. I wasn't duplicitous or misleading, even if I know there is a steet date. the same could have happened to 'Oblivious Joe' who doesn't even know there is a new edition. I...

    What they don't know...

... isn't a problem, right? So, there I was, in a big box bookseller... Clerk: "May I help you find something?" Me: "I'm looking for a D&D player's handbook, but I don't see them on the shelves." Clerk: "Hmmm, I'll go check the back." A few minutes later, clerk returns with 4E versions of the...

    Daily Art Preview

FWIW, I like the foulspawn pic (although the big red guy in back did make me immediately think of the carnage demon.) I like that they all have huge white eyes and ridiculous grins full of large pointy teeth. No mommy, I don't like clowns! Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah... They definitely strike...

:) Don't feel bad... I was corrected about when a PC is dead just a few posts before yours!

(Lots of Spoilers) My Keep on the Shadowfell game

Everyone... thanks for correcting me! Dead is negative bloodied, not negative max HP. And who said PCs can't die in 4E? :)

(Lots of Spoilers) My Keep on the Shadowfell game

Jester, Great writeup... seems like some great times! But I have to ask... Edit: dead is negative the bloodied number, not negative max HP. So, the rest of my post is incorrect... move along... it seems like you are considering a PC dead at 0 HP. You realize that they are not dead until they...

    D&D 4E 4E combat illustrated

First: great job! Second: constructive criticism: you ran it backwards. The PCs are supposed to enter from the east side of the map, which is the half of the map not shown in the illustration (as clarified in the product FAQ.) The PCs are supposed to advance two turns, but then it also states...
