    New Player's Handbook Cover Art!

Looks like the DMG was updated, too. PHB in the crystal ball, and I think an overall zoom-in on the dragon as well.

    New Player's Handbook Cover Art!

Much better! I agree that the core rules would benefit from the translucent headers used on the modules.

    A Question of Character...

Assume: 8 core classes 2 suggested builds, 8 races... 128 permutations, before you factor in different abilities, feats, powers, weapons, skills, etc. Then there's paragon paths and epic destines. And multiclassing or class training. And that's just the first book. What's the issue?

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

Ahglock, Thanks for the reply. I understand your point. Maybe mine could be better stated that '4E focuses on combat.' IMO, D&D is not a catch-all be-whatever-you-want-it-to-be RPG. It used to be, primarily because their wasn't many other options. It was the catch-all out of necessity. 4E...

    Diagonals revisited

Not a sig, just my thoughts upon seeing Celebrim's 'equation.' Those thoughts were better expressed with emotes than words. I'm sad, because after seeing the logic presented, I realize that I cannot discuss the issue with him further. Celebrim, no offense intended, it just seems that we have...

    Diagonals revisited

Well, it was kind of anti 1:1, but mostly for fun, just to highlight the strangeness. A strangeness that I now readily accept. About the sig... thanks for that. Learn something new every day (nevermind that I wrote 2 papers for my MBA today!) I had not noticed that the sig only appeared once...

    Diagonals revisited

Yeah, I thought of that, but a)I couldn't think of anything better, and b)I think it's still applicable! After all, I am a crazed cultist that treads the obscene angles of reality. EDIT: Hey! My sig's gone! Where'd it go? I didn't do anything to my profile... maybe it has forsaken me!

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

Care to elaborate? There may be games where this type of 'balance' is right, but D&D is not that game. It never really has been. Well, it has been (attempted to be) balanced that way, and that level of balance also caused various levels of fun. D&D focuses on the combat. Every player should be...

    Diagonals revisited

Me too! 6th in the Nation when I was a Junior. (Hey, finally found a place to brag.) Regarding #3: sure the squares on your map are 'absolute' in the sense that you know exactly where they are and you can move 6 of them, but they are still abstract in function, just like HPs. The only game I...

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

Nope, I won't be disappointed. What I've seen is fine for me. So far, 4E is appearing to solve every problem I have with previous editions. As for the dishes, my wife usually takes care of those! (BUt I'm smart enough to help on occasion. :) That is an expressly stated goal of 4E. Combat...

    Diagonals revisited

As the OP of the Non-Euclidean geometry rant, I shall take the liberty of revisiting the topic but will spare you from bringing that 600+ post back to necromantic unlife. I must say that my opinion has changed. For 4E, 1:1 is the way to go. I have many justifications: 1) Most important, for...

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

I dunno, but I infer from the writeup that the Rogue is more clever and sneaky than any other class, save maybe the ranger. They're probably 'different equals.' But I see your point: how do I make my rogue more clever and sneaky than the next one? My answer: we have not even seen the tip of the...

    D&D 4E 4E Rogue for non-4E enthusiast

Maybe 'clever' and 'sneaky' will just be a matter of roleplaying?

Move - Shift - Slide... the differences

I've read others commenting on the different types of movement and wondering why there are so many terms for the same thing. I think it's because they have key differences: MOVE is your normal movement, subject to normal restrictions (such as OAs) SHIFT is a movement option (usually only one...

    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

Wow! Further proof that 4E is exceeding my wildest expectations about what D&D could become! I'd go into detail about what I like, but that would pretty much mean a cut-and-paste of the article. :)

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

Yep, I continue to think about this. I am coming to terms with the 1:1 movement. What I have realized is that it's not the counting so much, but the fact that movement, especially charges, doesn't have to be in a straight line. Using the above pic, if the charging model were one square forward...

D&D 4E Getting Closer To Being Sucked In To 4E

Just to be sure (because I can't find it clearly spelled out on the amazon site:) If I preorder, it doesn't charge until it ships. Is that a true statement?

    Solution: don't draw diagonal hallways.

Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

Well, the Desert of Desolation minis (of which all creatures with be in the 4E MM) have a Shadar-Kai assassin in the set, who is wielding a spiked chain. Based on that singular piece of info, I assume the spiked chain is in.
