Possessing your friends for fun and profit.

Dandu, I'd just like to commend you for trying to find a way, and blowing one of your own precious resources (a high level spell) to achieve it, of buffing the noncasters with the personal spells. If the combo is broken, it is only so because the personal only spells themselves are broken and...

    Deepwood Sniper (Archetype)

Pretty cool. I always loved that class. Some stuff: - I don't know how much you value crunch vs. fluff, but elves in fact are mediocre archer rangers at best. The only noteworthy thing they get is the +2 dex and longbow proficiency (which ranger has anyway) and maybe the low-light. Plenty...

When you first read up on a race...

Well, when I see out of 7 core races (karl, you forgot half-elves; it's understandable, there's not much the remember about them...), Elves rank #6 at being wizards, I would call that "sucking at being a wizard." Perhaps other people have lower standards than me, but "I'm only better at it than...

D&D 5E (2014) Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Same. I hated just about everything I've been hearing about 5E, but had some small glimmer of hope deep inside that the new edition might still be ok due to his influence. Well, that hope just died...

When you first read up on a race...

I was talking about core elf. Some of the subraces that boost int are worthy as wizards, of course. But the game talks up about the core elf being a good wizard, and that's total bs, they SUUUUUUUUUCK at it! And the weapon proficiencies don't mean squat, at best you're going to have 10...

    Need Inquisitor suggestions

Since only you benefit from the teamwork feat... I would say that if a flanking ally crits, you get the AoO. But it would not work in reverse. Since the AoO is the benefit and critting is the trigger. You might want to consider Gang Up, though even in such a melee heavy party that feat's...

WotC ruling on TWF + Flurry of Blows

Agreed! I don't think the TWF w/ unarmed works, as I prefer to just always treat it as one weapon for simplicity, but if they wanted to TWF w/ unarmed and another weapon, sure. And they defitely should be able to string natural attacks on the end; anyone else full attacking can do that, to...

    Gestalt Help

In my gestalt rules, I'd have requird you to take Warchanter on your bard side. But since the base gestalt rules are pretty lax, it would seem they would stack. Wouldn't be that powerful, really... Sidenote: I consider it a total oversight / 3.0 to 3.5 conversion error that Warchanter, which...

Almost as good as the fighter

I agree with you, OP, for rogue. Not for cleric. The melee divine caster is the Paladin, screw the cleric. I realize in older editions cleric rocked in melee and rogue was a sucky all-round combat class that couldn't even make up for it w/ spells. That was a problem with the older editions...

What's a rogue to you? Question on the relevance of a class.

Rogue is the troubleshooter and skill monkey who fights smart -- attacking weakpoints, skirmishing in and out of melee to avoid damage. Confident in his own skill at dodging and somersaulting past enemy blades and that it's superior than relying on bulky armor. He may be a flashy combat...

When you first read up on a race...

I skip straight to the stats, then look at the flavor. Flavor is great and all, and I have read entire chapters start to finish in the Races of books, but you gotta know what you're working with. Cause too often, the fluff doesn't even match the crunch, which makes the fluff quite pointless...

New to the game. Need advice on Ranger build.

What books/sources do you have access to or is the DM allowing? If you're mainly doing archery, I would assign those rolls as follows: Str 18, Dex 18, Con 17, Int 16, Wis 16, Cha 14 (or switch Con and Wis) Very good rolls, by the way. Like, crazy good. Race will depend on what books are...

help with getting a high AC

Yeah, I've done Whisper Gnome Swordsage w/ Desert Wind Dodge and Titan Fighting. +4 AC vs. nearly everything just for doing what you'd do anyway is pretty nice for 2 feats. He furthermore had Child of Shadow stance for 20% miss chance.

help with getting a high AC

More in response to your xp comment but...the two words are not always redundant. Just last week, my caster baleful polymorphed an enemy into a literal turtle. But said enemy was a swordsage who made his will save, so he still was able to snap kick me in the knee and then teleport away when...

critical weapons and character build help

PF does not do dex-based warriors well at all. That said, the only truly effective dex-based warrior I've seen is a Magus that uses the Dervish Dance feat and fights with a scimitar. Spellstrike + Spell Combat makes for a brutal full attack, especially once you can use your arcana pool to give...

help with getting a high AC

The highest AC most ineffectual build at 1st level is a Kobold Fighter in the heaviest armor you can afford and a tower shield, feats spent on further boosting AC (Imp. Natural Armor, Shield Focus...hell, may as well go for Shield Specialization so the tower shield's at least adding to touch...

    Good exotic throwing weapons.

Emo, don't forget at BB level 3 (level 8 in your build), you're getting a bonus feat from BB.

Spell balance question: Lethal vs. non-lethal

I agree. They're the only damaging spells on the Beguiler's spell list. Coincidentally, I hav never seen anyone but a beguiler ever cast them. I think they're were nerfed in order to exploit a captive audience (beguilers looking for something to do damage wth), and not because of dealing...

    Good exotic throwing weapons.

You use Bloodstorm Blade for the level 4 ability to full attack with the same weapon(s), so you're not stuck using nonmagical thrown weapons. It helps a ton later on. It also gets a bonus feat at 3 to help your feat crunch. All the other abilities you can honestly never once use and 4 levels...
