[GenCon] "(more) Road Construction News!" (Scouting and Info Within)

Lodging As of today, I can get a room at a reasonable price, but it is a bit of a walk from the convention center. My question is: There has been mention of a CON discount at the hotels surrounding the convention center. Is it worth waiting (price-wise) until after Feb 3rd to book hotel...

    ENnies 2003 Judges!

What the heck...it gives me one more good reason in explaining to my girlfriend why I need to leave for 4 days in July, travel 8+ hours. then hang with a bunch of eccentric people who play even more eccentric games. I've been a regular on EN World for over 2 years. I have also been gaming in...

How much real info in your game?

I run a PbP game and close to 100% of my in-game material is real. I usually post html links within the message. It not only helps the players get a feel for what something/someone looks like, but also add flavor to the setting. Just today I used the Henderson Executive Airport just outside of...

    [CoC] Police gun by era

It wasn't until the 20th century that there was any standardization of firearms carried by law enforcent officials. As a pre-1900 lawdog, you pretty much carried whatever you could afford. Most people carried a variant of the Colt. They were fairly cheap and readily available almost everywhere...

[OT] I'm paying $350 a MONTH in Car Insurance!!

GEICO? I had Nationwide for about 10 years until they decided to jack me for a reprehensible sum that amounted to extortion. I switched to GEICO last fall and my rates were only a fraction of Nationwide was going to extort from me. As for State Farm, I know they have had a ton of problems as...

    Talon Comics--Store Hours?

Being that I'd be in NE Texas next week, I planned on heading over to the fair city of Denton to check out all the hubbub that is Talon Comics. But alas, there aren't any store hours on the website. Bueller? Bueller? -DIETER

Must see movie for D20 Modern.

If you're looking for "ordinary guy vs. big critter", I'd highly recommend the underrated movie Split Second. It's got Rutger Hauer vs. a creepy creature set in the near-future London. If anything, you gotta love the phrase on the cover. "He's gonna need bigger guns." :)

PbP games -- how to run them

As it has been noted, keeping everyone on the same page is tough. The only way I've managed to keep my sanity is to slow one party the down at the sake of letting the lagging part catch up.

PbP games -- how to run them

Thanks for the info. In regards to the party splitting up. I actually don't have any problems with it. It was just a caviat for any newbies out there. To their credit, the players in my game do an excellent job of helping me keep things running smoothly. We're in Season 2 right now and...

PbP games -- how to run them

Absolutely. I ALWAYS follow the players' instructions to the letter. I don't ever use creative license if it is contrary to the player's wishes. I usually explain BIG upsets/successes with alot more flare than my usual exposition. A good/bad critical usually takes up at least 3 times as much...

PbP games -- how to run them

Ugh...the party splits up...that's the real arse-kicker of a PbP game. You have to do seperate bookkeeping for all of the parties involved. The cool thing about Spycraft is that you have the option of giving everyone ear-mikes/phones so they call all talk to eachother at any given time...

PbP games -- how to run them

My PbP game (kinda long) I run a Spycraft game on a board and basically I have two (or more) threads running for the same campaign. In my current campaign I have five active threads. That is primarily to keep the bookkeeping down to a minimum and to keep track of the 4 or more players I have at...

    'Origin' of Your User Name

Name Origin Dieter (full name Dieter Niederburger) came from an old Top Secret S.I. (now F.U.D.G.E) character of mine. He's the Swiss-born black-ops commando. Basically he's a Connery-style Bond with a good dose of The Punisher thrown in for flavor.

My PBEM campaign is currently working on Episode II, Chapter I. They have been around the world in such exotic locations as Spain, Sweden, Mother Russia, Japan, and the U.S. Currently they're doing an undercover mission in Las Vegas. Here's a link to the entire plotline.
