    Dwarf with 145 lb. pack--absurd??

I just couldn't leave my portable ram at home! My character ended up with 145 lb. of total gear. I made him a 150 lb. dwarf (a bit heavy!) just so that his gear wouldn't outweigh him. He wears medium armor anyway, so the medium encumbrance doesn't slow him down any more than he would be...

    Odd Race Class Combos

The halfling necromancer has to be a prize-winner! Of course, the elf paladin is great too, as are your dwarf and gnome ideas.

    Pure speed!

Cool! I need to look at that. Unfortunately, I don't get Dragon (crazy as that may sound).

    Pure speed!

I guess it is time to reply to this serious allegation ... that I am powergaming! I decided to do apprentice levels partly for character reasons and partly for what you might call "powergaming" reasons. The character reason is that I thought it would not make much sense to start off...

    Pure speed!

Yeah, I considered that, but a monk has to have more strength, while a rogue can do damage without much strength. And the whole idea of being lawful and disciplined, and meditating .... wasn't for me. So, I guess you cought me. It's not really pure speed above all else that i wanted.

    Pure speed!

Re: Re: Pure speed! I don't understand. Is it bad, in your view, to make a character description based on a strategic idea? It sounds like you disapprove for some reason, although then you go on to suggest that I focus less on the character idea and more on what I plan to actually do. This...

    Pure speed!

Character idea: the personification of quickness. Background: human barbarian who just doesn't have the muscle to hang with the big boys, so he goes off and becomes a wandering rogue. STR 8 DEX 18 CON 10 INT 14 WIS 10 CHA 10 (Based on a 28 pt buy) The idea of starting him off as a...

    Odd Race Class Combos

Half-orc illusionist! :D Or even better, pair him up with a gnome barbarian as a duo. And then you could round out the party with another duo: a dwarf ranger and his elf paladin sidekick!

    Chicago

I like the directory idea. And I would think that any gaming store with any marketing sense would want to support the idea, since they only stand to profit by having more active groups are out there. See if you can get them to pay you for it. :p Actually, having a message board (like this...

    Barbarian/monk?

I don't know where you guys are getting this idea that rage is nullified if a character becomes lawful. It is true that a lawful character cannot be a barbarian, but it doesnt say that he loses barbarian abilities if his alignment changes. Compare it to the rules for a Paladin, where it...

    Can rogues use a kukri?

A hand crossbow is also an exotic weapon, yet all rogues can use it. Therefore, the fact that a kukri is exotic is irrelevant.

    Barbarian/monk?

The character concept is this: He's a human from a barbaric culture, and thus has the fast movement, rage, and familiarity with martial weapons. But as he matured, he found that in order to truly develop his personal strength, he needed discipline. This realization comes about as a result of...

    Scroll Consumption

Or, another way of saying pretty much the same thing would be that they just can't successfully activate the scroll no matter how hard they try. The spellcaster doesn't necessarily have to "realize" anything. They are just wise enough to avoid forcing the magic to be released when it is beyond...

    Can rogues use a kukri?

Rogues are proficient with daggers of "any type." A kukri is described as a "heavy, curved dagger." So, can a rogue use it, or does "any type" only refer to a normal dagger and a punching dagger?

    Scroll Consumption

Going beyond the rules . . . think about what a scroll is. A scroll stores magical energy. Since a mishap involves the release of that magical energy, albeit in an unintended way, it stands to reason that the scroll would no longer contain any power.

Booting a player from your group

Since initially creating this thread, and having read all of your helpful advice, I have come to this conclusion: Gaming groups are often quite different from other social groups. This is true in two ways. First, sometimes people form gaming groups with people that they do not and would not...

Booting a player from your group

Is there any etiquette on this matter? Should you be polite? Should you make up some sort of pretext for dismissal? Should you lie to them about the reasons? Should you avoid confrontation by just dissolving the group and then re-forming it without the problematic person? What say you, wise...

    Switching Characters

I was forced to play a sorcerer once, when i wanted to be a rogue. It was a terrible experience. (Not that being a sorcerer is necessarily bad.) No player should ever have to play a character that they are not happy with.

You really need some type of visual aid, because certain things like flanking and attacks of opportunity are practically impossible otherwise.

Just how specific with a Ready action?

Yes, delayed actions cannot interrupt a foe's action. But I think you are incorrect about readied actions turning into delayed actions if the trigger doesnt happen. If the trigger doesnt occur, you simply do nothing, and you take your turn in the same order as before. Only if the readied...
