Pax Prime seminar 2012 juicy news!

Exactly. I want to be able to engage MY players in MY world. That becomes quite hard when flavor is baked into classes. And here they were doing to well with getting me to want to get this game again (after the disaster that was Playtest #1 ).

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

You know what, I was going to respond to this, but the edition war BS cropping up in EVERY FRAKKING THREAD IS GETTING REALLY FRAKKING OLD. I realize I fed into it just as much as anyone but FFS this needs to stop coming up in every thread. This is why our hobby will die, because we are too...

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

Difference is, I can play a 4E Fighter (Slayer) alongside a 4E Warlord and run into no problems. Heck, I can play a Fighter (Slayer), Fighter (Weaponmaster), and Fighter (Knight) all at the same table without any issues. I could not play a 3.0 Paladin and a 3.5 Paladin at the same table...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

So, without the terminology, a Boss Goblin is just a powerful Goblin that you -CAN- use. This is an insurmountable problem how? Or is this a case of "I HATE this as an option, therefore NO ONE can use it?" Because if you are feeling forced to use said option, you should probably call the...

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

You mean the system that had all new, incompatible core rulebooks printed for it WASN'T overhauled? The system where the Barbarian, Bard, Monk, Paladin, and Ranger were significantly changed from their previous version to the point where the two version were incapable of being played...

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

I don't mind the idea of a boss monster tag, since it is easily ignored, and actually helpful for people that don't ignore it. Basically, if they make a Boss Goblin, it tells me I -CAN- use said Goblin as a boss, but I can also use him later on as a powerful lackey of a bandit lord or something...

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

I don't think our expectations were too high, I think their talk was too big. When they talked modular, many thought they meant something like modular bays on a laptop. You can remove something, remove and replace something, or add something in. The core that we are seeing has too many things...

D&D 5E (2014) Which 5e innovations do you like the most?

Combat Superiority and its build-your-at-will basic attack. What would be even cooler is if the dice "exploded" when you rolled max. Perhaps that could be a later ability.

Backgrounds and Skills You'd Like to See

I find it odd we have 13 Lore skills, but no Athletics or Acrobatics. And yes, you can use Strength and Dexterity checks to accomplish this, but Skills imply using more than natural talent with these. Usain Bolt doesn't win Olympic Gold medals just because of raw talent, he also trains his...

    New Playtest Survey going out

This was kind of what I was thinking. It would set a precedent that backgrounds grant skills, but class grants one skill chosen from a short list. I wish I had put that in my responses though...:(

    New Playtest Survey going out

Generally, the fighter is supposed to be the guy that break down doors, completes feats of athleticism, intimidates, bends bars, etc (though games derived from 3E messed this up since the fighter got screwed in terms of skill points). Most of these can be done with a Strength check(Yay!) or a...

You don't. One time use only.

    New Playtest Survey going out

This morning I received a new playtest survey. A lot of people haven't yet, but it is probably a staggered release. I had a lot of positive things to say, but also a lot of negatives. While I think they are headed in the right way with the fighter, the fighter still needs some out of combat...

Warlocks: Goodbye Rogues, we hardly knew you

I guess they couldn't resist invalidating the normies. Sorcerer eclipses the fighter eventually too.

Please stop complaining about missing material

Well, I do find it pretty odd that the playtest doesn't have a dragon in it. Apparently Penny Arcade was being oddly prophetic with the joke about Dragons being sold separately.;)

    [Playtest 2] "Encounter" Building

I saw this and had hope that WotC realized how moronic and unbalanced the adventuring day was. It seems like they haven't. Hopefully they make a modular way of doing encounter-focused design.

    D&D Next Q&A 9 August

Some, yes. The ranger power Twin Strike would frequently get used a lot, but in combination to minor action Encounter and Daily attacks. But across the board, not really.

Indie game designers unite to buy D&D!?

The clear answer is a Nerf fight, Battleship tournament, and other Hasbro brand-based competition. They could make a TV show out of it, call it Geek Wars. The US Mint wouldn't be able to keep up with the money it would print.

D&D 5E (2014) Eagerly Awaiting the Next Playtest Packet

I am waiting for this one because it has the new "I do something other than swing sword, swing sword, swing sword..." Fighter mechanic. It should give us a better look at what Races, Themes, Classes, and Backgrounds entail. Supposedly they are converting Oman Dran (Jerry Holkins's 4E Half-Elf...
