D&D 5E (2014) To fudge or not to fudge: that is the question

This is something that I was thinking about the other day regarding fudging at another level. When you create an encounter you create it towards the players/characters ability. But by doing so, a DM interrupts the flow of the world by creating little quest pockets that the rest of the world is...

D&D 5E (2014) To fudge or not to fudge: that is the question

IME, people that know math, or don't know math, don't always know D&D. I am certain Mary Poppins, would never fudge. But if you step in time on the rooftops of London long enough, even Mrs. Practically Perfect in Every Way will end up with soot on her face.

D&D 5E (2014) To fudge or not to fudge: that is the question

When playing, I prefer a DM that almost never fudges.

D&D 5E (2014) Mapping Software Input [What's in your wallet?]

I might try and play around with fractal mapper. Tks for the idea. innerdude, Mea Culpa. It was not my intention to strawman your position. I have been using the GIMP for over ten years and photoshop cs5 for about three years. GIMP is not created to replace photoshop but it has always been the...

D&D 5E (2014) Mapping Software Input [What's in your wallet?]

I use the GIMP for my hobbies and professionally. Saying it is a casual toy is BS. It was mentioned before. If you go to Cartographer's Guild you will get some real advice on map making. List of Mapping Software LINK

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

Spells fit in the kinda discrete zone. My magic missiles often look like dwarven forge hammers when they fly off to hit their target unerringly.

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

The poll seems to showcase the many playstyles of DnD and its root in abstract definitions. My preference is to create a concept: Martin "El Bruce" McBanner, Doctor, Avenging Champion. Then I choose whatever race/class that supports that concept with mechanical features. The concept lives...

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

Yeah, right. "Hello, my name is Michael Jordan, I am a 19th level Basketball Player and a 1st level Baseball Player. I also sell underpants."

D&D 5E (2014) Do Classes Have Concrete Meaning In Your Game?

The Grand Druid is the Warlock of the Wyrmling Woods. All Challengers of Gaiea know this.

    Character Suicide

I player wants you to retcon 2 sessions so he can change his class. And, Your player asked if he could kill his character so he could make a new one. ... Let him. Don't let his actions delete the group's progress. No sense in making the rest of the group pay for his....uh....behavior...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

There is enough red in this guide to repudiate itself. Can we please move this guide to the dumpster. EDIT: Its a dead pan snarker sorta thing.

D&D 5E (2014) The most obvious spell, and it's always missing

I pity the player that forbids me mess with them during a short rest...:devil:

What makes a Warlord differ from a Bard?

Tights. A warlord would not be caught dead in them. Conceptually, I can create a Bard or a Warlord using a monk as the class. Mechanically, the bard uses musical magic, long and short rest features, and a Warlord does not exist in 5E so I don't know.

D&D 5E (2014) Favorite method of generating ability scores

We had a pretty good discussion a little while ago about ways to generate abilities. HERE is the link. As far as favorite I would have to go with either High/Lo Pair or 6x6 Grid. My least favorite is standard array.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like RAVENLOFT

D&D 5E (2014) So.... no UA this month?

You win this thread. This month's issue needed to be released back in the mid 80s when people were looking for a reason to burn down D&D.

Which D&D Settings Do You Play In?

I have just finished B6, The Veiled Society, and now we are moving into Sandboxing GAZ1. It was a great way to introduce new players to D&D. I also play a wild sorcerer in a homebrew world based off of Blake's Mythopoeia

    D&D 5E (2014) Soooo, the melee ranger?

As the edition ages, players will settle into the ranger. This thread kinda says that. I hope WoTC does not change the current ranger but I am okay if they experiment with another version. I play a lance wielding forest gnome deer riding beastmaster and everything is all right. The deer's AC is...

    D&D 5E (2014) First character---need help

Extreme example agreed, but I find the philosophy is still flawed. Imagine telling a player that they should invest in 16 dex/wis because that is the best way to do it, and their first fight they take a dirt nap. THAT, is not an extreme example. It happens...a lot. It is harder to predict the...
