Aspect of the Cunning Fox - Am I missing something?

Also, the other part of Aspect of the Cunning Fox can be pretty nice combo'd with Rapid Shot. As far as I can tell, RAW is that you get to shift after each attack, which can be a whole lot of free movement.

    Combined Magic Items - cost?

FYI, item cost is actually pretty interesting: it's a bunch of linear segments that form an exponential. Item price goes up a fixed amount per level until you hit a level where the enhancement bonus goes up, then there's a big jump in both overall price and price increase per level. It's set...

Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

I might replace Spikes of the Manticore with Hawk's Talon - it gives you another dual-use power and with your ability scores you can abuse the Wis bonus. Then between that and Evasive Strike you've got at least two rounds every encounter where you have a good melee option (at level 11 at-wills...

    Greatbow Ranger and Sneak Attack

Actually, I realize I've forgotten that shortbows still aren't viable for most Rogues (aside from Treetop Sniper) even if they do work with SA, since all those weapon prereqs on Rogue powers haven't had errata (yet). So PH1 Rogues are forced to stick with crossbows for now, though shuriken are...

    Greatbow Ranger and Sneak Attack

In this case it was a player with an Elf Ranger who had already multiclassed into Rogue for other reasons anyway. Pre-essentials errata they would've had to switch to a crossbow to get the most out of it, and then take Speed Loader to be useful, which I think had just appeared. Since the end...

    Greatbow Ranger and Sneak Attack

Sorry, should've clarified that my houserule dates back to before SA was errata'd to include shortbows. At the time, the player thought it was still worth it; now I think I'm going to offer a free retrain or upgrade the feat to include longbows.

    Is Mass Charm Balanced?

It's an encounter power. If it were spammable, then yes, fighting amongst yourselves would be annoying. But as an encounter power, in terms of pure damage it will almost certainly do less per target than Dancing Flames (often much less), and in terms of control guaranteed slide 5 is still...

    Greatbow Ranger and Sneak Attack

Yeah, I houseruled that one real quick: I let any race take Treetop Sniper, but it only works with shortbows. IMO that's how it should've worked to begin with.

Help me build an 11th level ranger (please)

I've played a character like this for a while (mainly using a bow but having some shortsword options), and honestly... after level 4 I pretty much stopped using the swords entirely. The bow is so much better that it's not worth it. You start out thinking that when surrounded, you'll switch to...

Need help finding rarity values for older equipment, please.

    Henchmen, Hirelings, Faith, and Heresy

15 gp is only a fraction of the average reward for even a single level 1 encounter, so it seems rather cheap to me. It's double the price of a lantern, the same price as an adventurer's kit, and cheaper than a cart. The D&D economy doesn't tend to make sense when you look at it too hard, but...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

I've played in a defender-striker-striker party through much of heroic, and it can work, but it takes 1-2 players multi/hybriding into leader and a DM who is generous with healing potions and other heal items. But once you have those for backup, the high damage output makes short work of many...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

Aggressive Advantage, Distant Advantage, Hidden Sniper, Terrain Advantage, etc... The attack bonus increase is compensated for in monster design. Target the weak NADs. Wizards should be multi-targeting and have the power selection to easily choose the weakest NAD. Your Cleric, however...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

A monster's weakest NAD is typically at least 3 lower than AC, in some cases 5 or more lower than AC (often soldiers). So with some strategic choice of targets, a "caster's" lower attack bonus compared to a fighter's is more than compensated for.

    Design & Development - Necromancy & Nethermancy

Yeah, I concur that Rotting Doom is actually quite good. It's like +5 to the entire party's next damage roll, except it even stacks with power bonuses. Rotting Doom + Blessing of Wrath on the party Thief = at least 8 extra damage almost guaranteed. Yeah, it only works against undead, but the...

    Need Quest Ideas - Underdark

1 The town has a slum of predominantly one race (gnomes, goblins?) that's looked down upon, and several of them have recently gone missing. Nobody else seems to care, will the PCs? 2 The town depends on a food/water supply that comes in through a side cavern. Recently there's been a small...

    Casters Suck? Please explain.

The Monk is fishy too. Monks use weapons as implements, they do not get to add the proficiency bonus to their attack. A 2nd level monk should be in the +6 to +8 range, +9 should really only possible with very heavy optimization.

    Orc Archer - overpowered?

I'm reading the Orc's other (single-target) ranged attack as +11 vs AC. +9 vs AC is level+5, which is actually a little lower than guidelines for an artillery monster. Low/mid/hi AC for level 4 PCs is something like 15/19/23, he's not going to hit everybody. Artillery are supposed to hurt...

D&D 4E How did 4e take simulation away from D&D?

"Norm" and "common" for PCs, who are supposed to be nearly unique in the game world. In fact, a PC with both training and skill focus is going to have better skill checks at their level than pretty much anything in any monster manual, and certainly better than any NPC unless the DM specifically...

D&D 4E How did 4e take simulation away from D&D?

I'm still trying to figure out what's so absurd about the jumping example. You have one of the strongest humans who ever lived, who has specifically trained in running and jumping much of their life to this point. Faced with a chasm that is 25'-30' across, at least 20' wide (B->D distance)...
