    D&D 5E (2014) E6 and 5e (Things I've noticed)

Mearls has already mentioned there is a "break point" at level 11. That's the reason he gives for the xp table "break" as the game goes into a new tier.

Looking for setting: Dragon lair in underground city.

Yeah, I read the first post and was going... what was the name of that city? So yeah, Xak Tsaroth would be my choice as well. Three times mentioned is the charm? :p

    D&D 5E (2014) E6 and 5e (Things I've noticed)

I thought about it and 5e really does remind me of E6. I do think the scaling damage muddies the water a bit though. Meteor Swarm does 2x20d6 damage in four 20' radius areas at a 1 mile range for instance. If I was going to do something like E6 for 5e, it would probably be E10. That matches...

D&D 5E (2014) Lost Mine of Phandelver - comments and complaints after read-through (spoilers)

Sound advice! In 4e I often use encounters that are out of the PC's league. When I do, they come up with something to avoid a TPK. It's probably a bit harder in 5e, since combat lasts fewer rounds and you therefore have less time to see death coming. I think that any adventure should have one...

D&D 5E (2014) So it looks as if the mountain dwarf will still make the best overall wizard.

Wouldn't it be better to pick a Human, take the +1 to two stats and a feat option, and select the moderatly armored feat for +1 con and medium armor proficiency? Then you could with the default array of 15, 14, 13 start out with 15+1 = 16 int and 14+1+1 = 16 con? +1 to hit and damage at low...

D&D 5E (2014) Lost Mine of Phandelver - comments and complaints after read-through (spoilers)

I don't find giving this kind of information meta-gamey at all. The characters probably know of the reputation of dragons as murder-machines, while the players might think it's just a game and everything is level-appropriate. I don't know how the dragon is presented in the module, but the main...

D&D 5E (2014) Are there really encounter powers?

I tend to agree with you @Nikosandros . In 4e I just assume they take a short breather before going on, but in 5e, it's more like you clean wounds, get a small fire going to heat some food, etc. It's more like a short daily rest than something you do between encounters. In 4e, it was usually a...

D&D 5E (2014) Wait, what IS the point of Acrobatics?

Good examples of dex based athletics is what I am reading. ;) I didn't think about it before it was mentioned in this thread, but merging Acrobatics/Athletics into one, and just calling it Dex(Athletics) or Str (Athletics) checks makes a lot of sense. I have a player with a character in 4e...

Just for fun. Let's have a battle royal of the big 3.

4e is the game I am playing. Have ordered 5e, and am going to test it. So, none of the above?

D&D 5E (2014) Parts of 5th Edition That Are Worth Stealing

I stole bounded accuracy for my 4e game.

    D&D 5E (2014) 50/50 chance is 'easy'?

I did, but from about ten playtests ago. Probably not relevant anymore as they changed the whole system several times. I don't see how that makes the Basic rules any better. (I do find your advice helpful though, it's just a bit beside the point).

    D&D 5E (2014) 50/50 chance is 'easy'?

My complaint was that I couldn't find the information in the Basic rules. (Except for the equipment stuff). I really hope they give some more examples in the rules, I don't see any reason not to. Having to browse through adventures to understand the rules is kind of backwards, and I don't have...

    D&D 5E (2014) 50/50 chance is 'easy'?

When I read through the ability checks, my biggest issue with the table is that there are no examples of what's very easy, easy, medium, etc. It's just a table that has no support. It's basically useless to a new DM. And pretty bad for me, as an experienced DM as well, since haven't played 5e...

    D&D 5E (2014) Healing in 5E

Isn't drawing your sword explicitly mentioned as an example of what you can do as a "free" action?

    D&D 5E (2014) Healing in 5E

I have no problem with your arguments, I just don't find any problem with the way healing works in 5e. The (mass) healing word spell is a form of healing that really reminds me of 4e, and although not very powerful, you just spend a spell slot on it, not your action, so the opportunity cost...

    D&D 5E (2014) Healing in 5E

Sure, but it isn't a trap to heal people. Which was the point I was trying to make. You just don't want to do it at every opportunity you get. I like decision points like that, where you don't always want to use power/spell/ability x. Btw, when you go down, you drop your stuff and fall prone...

    D&D 5E (2014) Healing in 5E

They intentionally removed scaling of spells from caster level, now the scaling comes from user higher level spell slots. It makes the strength of caster less exponential and more linear, like the other classes. Another effect of this is that combats will be quicker in 5e than in 4e. In 4e you...

The Power of "NO". Banned Races and Classes?

I really don't like the Dragonborn from 4e. I am actually not too fond of any of the "extra" races they have added. It's mostly because I just find the fiction to make them fit in convoluted. I haven't banned any though, and 4e really reduced the options I felt you had when it comes to...

    D&D 5E (2014) To Slay a Dragon - for 5e?

Sounds cool. I really like modules like this that really leaves a lot of room for you as a DM to integrate it with your own or the players ideas. (As opposed to adventure paths that often assume too much in my opinion) I really hope the 5e license for third party publishers will make it easy...

    D&D 5E (2014) To Slay a Dragon - for 5e?

Now Morrus, when are we going to see the kickstarter for the 5e version of To Slay a Dragon? I never got around to buying it for Pathfinder - since I don't play it, only 4e at the moment. I am guessing it's a rather easy conversion to 5e, but I would rather pay for a version that's already...
