    D&D 5E (2014) Origin New Edition Panel

It's not really comparable though? The revisions would probably have pretty minor changes, while a new magic set basically gives you a new game. Drafts are really fun to play too, but again, it's just not comparable in my opinion. Btw, try out Dominion if you haven't already. ;) Personally, I...

D&D 5E (2014) What does this photo say to you? [Project: Morningstar)

My first reaction was that they were doing character creation, since everybody was looking at the tablet at the same time. The second thought I had was: hope I don't need it. The third one was: I don't need it, I have a 1-page level 13 4e character sheet, and run initiative on cardboard...

Why has WotC stopped posting on ENWorld?

Sounds about right to me. I enjoy discussing things on forums.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: A chiropractic adjustment for D&D (and why I'm very hopeful)

Some good points, but it does increase the workload on the DM, especially when it comes to spells. Using the UE cleric option probably works, but then you have banned the ordinary cleric. You are still left with feats, prestige classes and magic items. (Magic items wasn't the worst of the...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: A chiropractic adjustment for D&D (and why I'm very hopeful)

I can see why we don't agree here. You are looking at new classes that you think are relatively well balanced against each other (I haven't tried them). I think you have a valid point here. At the same time, you still have all the overpowered Wizards, Clerics and Druids, but now with feat...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E: A chiropractic adjustment for D&D (and why I'm very hopeful)

I am currently playing in two concurrent 4e games. One is stuck in 2008 and the other one uses post MM3 monster/stats/character builds. The pacing has completely changed in combat and the mechanics for both monsters and characters works a lot better. The evolvment of 4e rules is completely...

The start of a Nentir Vale campaign

AbdulAlhazred yeah, using wandering monsters or similar techniques to get things moving along sounds like a good idea. Planning a few such "kick things along" encounters is probably a good idea. This was a city encounter and they were in a "safe" zone, so it would probably have to be a bit more...

The start of a Nentir Vale campaign

I just finished up my third session in this campaign. The second session focused on them getting the information they knew to the Baron without getting themselves hanged and getting a chance to reclaim Redwood for one of the characters (Stellian). The third session started out with the actual...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you play in or run a 2 hour pick up game of D&D ?

Do I have the 5e starter set or some other easily prepared adventure with the characters already made? If so, yeah, I would try it out.

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Dungeons & Dragons Q&A Friday, June 6 Question Thread

The funny part? In Norwegian, you are supposed to compound the nouns, otherwise you quickly end up writing completely different from your intention. That English doesn't do it is just really confusing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Live Dungeons & Dragons Q&A Friday, June 6 Question Thread

Is the D&D Starter Set and Basic Rules targeted at play on a grid with miniatures, or more towards a "theatre of the mind"?

D&D 5E (2014) Merits of including too much or too little in the PHB

I thinking (and hoping) for the same thing as you. That they have lots of options in the PHB that shouldn't necessarily "core" (in my opinion). Not every setting needs Dragonborn or Tieflings. They don't need to use much space here, just enough to let players and DMs know that not every race or...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Contents Teaser

I remember playing AD&D 2e and we just scribbled on a piece of paper, it did work, although it could be a bit confusing at times. I really wonder if I can go back to playing more like that again. I think it will be pretty hard, since it's pretty ingrained to use the grid and count squares.

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Contents Teaser

I think they hope to sell a lot of the starter set, and actually make money on it too. As mentioned earlier, if it gets into the same stores as Settlers of Catan (basically any book store), it could maybe sell enough to pay for the whole 5e development?

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set Contents Teaser

Looks like they went for dirt cheap. 12$ vs 23$ makes it much more of an impulse buy. They could probably have made a deluxe starter set or something, but for that audience, they have the rest of their lineup.

OSR D&D 5e OSR backwards compatibility

@Mistwell thanks for the lawyering, it was actually very helpful to start clearing up the misunderstanding. Morrus I actually find you really patient and to the point, even if you were misunderstood. ;) Anyway, if we go back to the topic, which I find really interesting: D&D 5e OSR backwards...

[Forked from the Escapist Magazine Interview Thread] What implications does E...

The usual problem with walls in war is that they are manned, and as you climb it, they drop rocks, boiling water, melted led or pitch on you and set you on fire. If you instead could just teleport up and start a fair fight the defenders advantage is reduced significantly. You are of course...

And tie them up so they can't remove the bag? You will end up spoon feeding your prisoners if you want them alive and unable to teleport. You might use pits with sheer walls higher than 30' and just lower the food, but you have to have some pretty specialized prisons. Anyway, that was just one...

Yeah, but you have to give them food and so on. Sometimes you might even want to get somebody out of the prison as well. Looking at how hard it is to run a high security prison in real life, think how hard it would do if the prisoners could teleport 30'? They might resort to a blinding ritual or...

Thieves can get into any location they can see within 30'? Any wall less than 30' high is near useless? If you take any prisoners, you basically have to poke their eyes out to stop them from teleporting?
